Improving Steroid Stewardship Among Primary Care Providers, Williemary Bolden
Improving Steroid Stewardship Among Primary Care Providers, Williemary Bolden
DNP Projects
In primary care settings, systemic corticosteroids continue to be excessively prescribed for conditions such as viral upper respiratory infections, allergic rhinitis, and other self-resolving illnesses. Corticosteroids are commonly prescribed inappropriately, despite lack of benefit and significant potential harm with their use; this includes immunosuppression, hyperglycemia, adrenal suppression, and other serious side effects. Recommendations for appropriate use and guideline-directed care have been published including withholding corticosteroid treatments in patients who are unlikely to benefit while reserving therapy for those with established clinical indications (Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease, 2023 GOLD). Steroid stewardship interventions were utilized in this Doctor of …

Improving Child Safety: Enhancing Healthcare Professionals’ Knowledge And Confidence In Reporting Maltreatment Through Targeted Education, Molly Sullivan
DNP Projects
Child maltreatment remains a significant public health concern associated with serious physical, emotional, psychological, and developmental consequences. Healthcare professionals are often in a unique position to identify signs and symptoms of child abuse and neglect; however, many report limited education and lack confidence regarding recognition and mandated reporting responsibilities. Educational interventions may help address these knowledge and confidence gaps. The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention designed to improve healthcare professionals' knowledge, confidence, and preparedness related to the identification and reporting of child maltreatment. A pre-survey/post-survey design was …

The nation is currently facing substantial healthcare needs, and limited access to care remains a major contributor to health disparities. Projected outlooks are grim, predicting a national provider shortage by the year 2030; this issue is already present in Mississippi. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services [USDHHS] (2024), Mississippi ranks 49th in the nation for health outcomes, and the upcoming provider shortage will leave the state on this detrimental path. However, there is a select group of healthcare providers who are willing to face these disparities and increase the overall health of all Mississippians. According to …

Effect Of Workload, Burnout, And Flexible Work Practices On The Well-Being Of University Faculty And Staff, Caroline O. Rogers
Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)
The present study examined the impact of workload, burnout, and flexible work practices (FWPs) on the well-being of higher education employees from the perspective of Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) theory. A moderated mediation model was hypothesized, wherein workload would be associated with well-being through burnout, and that this association would be attenuated by the presence of FWPs. A total of 477 full-time faculty, staff, and affiliated research foundation employees from a large public university in the Northeast region and a broader range of colleges and universities across the United States of America completed a cross-sectional survey. Validated measures assessed workload (Quantitative …

Using transaction-level data from millions of U.S. households, we provide the first comprehensive characterization of retail cryptocurrency investment. Crypto investors are distinguished not by demographics but by a latent behavioral type revealed through consumption patterns—one that also predicts higher participation in traditional equity brokerages. The economic forces driving crypto investment, including income shocks, workplace peer effects, and inflation exposure, mirror those driving traditional investment. Crucially, households whose consumption matches the crypto-investor profile are more responsive to all these drivers across both asset classes, suggesting that investor type is a more relevant distinction than asset class.

Self-supervised learning techniques and geospatial foundation models are garnering increasing attention within the remote sensing community, marking a pivotal shift toward more adaptable, generalizable and data efficient methodologies. Despite their growing popularity, comparative analyses between these emergent models and traditional, task-specific supervised deep learning models for tasks such as semantic segmentation remain largely unexplored. This study is formulated as a comparative analysis to scrutinize the efficacy of the finetuned Prithvi geospatial foundation models against a supervised convolutional neural network trained from scratch for semantic segmentation of mangrove forests and pond aquaculture under varying levels of data availability and domain shift. …
Relational Efficacy Beliefs In Supervision Of Master’S Level Counseling Trainees As Predictors Of Counseling Interests And Goals, Taylor Karnilaw
Relational Efficacy Beliefs In Supervision Of Master’S Level Counseling Trainees As Predictors Of Counseling Interests And Goals, Taylor Karnilaw
Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)
Master's level counseling trainees have condensed training periods before making career-related decisions and are often placed in settings with high rates of burnout and turnover. Supervision has been shown to be a protective factor for burnout and has the potential to be a source of self-efficacy, which has been linked with career-related outcomes like occupational interests and goals (Lent et al., 2018; O’Connor et al., 2018). Moreover, within the context of close relationships, like supervision, efficacy beliefs are believed to be shaped by a network of beliefs, including relation-inferred self-efficacy, self-efficacy, and other-efficacy (Lent & Lopez, 2002). The current study …
The Maxima Method For Identification Of Principal Periodic Components In Time Series Analysis, Megan Di Maio
The Maxima Method For Identification Of Principal Periodic Components In Time Series Analysis, Megan Di Maio
Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)
This dissertation investigates methods for mean estimation in periodically correlated time series, focusing on the Variable Bandpass Periodic Block Bootstrap (VBPBB) and a novel data-driven maxima method. Time series require specific methods because of the temporal correlation in the data. Traditional methods like the General Seasonal Block Bootstrap (GSBB) account for this correlation but often produce wide confidence intervals because they cannot isolate multiple periodicities, allowing noise and other frequencies to interfere with analysis. The VBPBB method addresses this by applying a Kolmogorov-Zurbenko Fourier Transform (KZFT) filter to the data before bootstrapping, which suppresses interfering frequencies and results in narrower, …

This paper investigates, for the first time in the literature, the factors that should matter to courts in determining whether a crypto market is “efficient,” meaning that prices are sufficiently responsive to information. Based on new empirical evidence and a series of event studies, we recommend a new judicial framework for assessing market efficiency in crypto litigation.
Market efficiency tests based on event studies have played an important role in other areas of litigation, particularly securities litigation, where courts frequently rely on what have become known as the “Cammer factors.” Academics have not yet assessed the extent to which market …

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide and is responsible for many preventable cancers (Braaten & Laufer, 2008; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2025). Even though a safe and effective vaccine is available, HPV vaccination rates remain lower than desired because of ongoing misinformation, limited knowledge, and parental hesitancy (Aninye et al., 2021; Beavis et al., 2022; Petagna et al., 2024). Since the vaccine is recommended during childhood and adolescence, parents play a major role in the decision to vaccinate (Park et al., 2023; Lopez et al., 2022). The purpose of this study was to …

We report the first crystal structure of the telmisartan-tempol conjugate 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-(λ'-oxidaneyl)piperidin-4-yl 4'-[(1,7'-dimethyl-2'-propyl-1H,3'H-[2,5'-bibenzo[d]imidazol]-3'-yl)methyl]-[1,1'-biphenyl]-2-carboxylate free radical (YK-4-250, C₄₂H₄₆N₅O₃), a dual-function inhibitor designed to target both the angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT₁R) and reactive oxygen species (ROS). Structural analysis reveals a unique crystal architecture in which the nitroxide radical is stabilized within a sterically protected environment while preserving the telmisartan pharmacophore essential for high-affinity receptor antagonism. YK-4-250 is a novel small-molecule conjugate of telmisartan and tempol that incorporates a catalytic stabilized nitroxide radical and was rationally designed to mitigate gastrointestinal acute radiation syndrome (GI-ARS).

Ornithine Metabolism In Retinal Pigment Epithelium And Retina And Implications In Gyrate Atrophy, Artjola Puja
Ornithine Metabolism In Retinal Pigment Epithelium And Retina And Implications In Gyrate Atrophy, Artjola Puja
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Ornithine aminotransferase (OAT) is a mitochondrial enzyme that regulates ornithine metabolism by converting ornithine to pyrroline-5-carboxylate, a precursor for proline and glutamate synthesis. Deficiency of OAT causes systemic ornithine accumulation and leads to gyrate atrophy (GA) of the choroid and retina, a hereditary disorder characterized by progressive chorioretinal degeneration and irreversible vision loss. Chorioretinal atrophy typically starts at the mid-peripheral retina and progresses toward the macula. Although elevated ornithine is considered toxic to the eye, how ornithine is metabolized in ocular tissues and why OAT deficiency causes selective, region-specific vulnerability remain unclear. We combined ex vivo and in vivo stable …

Graft: Graph-Augmented Framework With Vision Transformers For Multi-Label Classification, Ghazaleh Mirzaee
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Multi-label classification of thoracic diseases from chest X-ray images poses a distinctive challenge: patients rarely present with a single isolated pathology, and automated systems must identify multiple co-occurring conditions simultaneously from a single radiograph. Standard classification architectures treat each disease label as an independent binary decision, failing to capture the statistical co-occurrence patterns, spatial anatomical relationships, and visual feature similarities that characterize multi-disease presentations in clinical data. Class imbalance and incomplete labels compound these problems. In NIH ChestX-ray14, the rarest pathological class has only 227 training instances, and many co-occurring conditions go unlabeled because radiologists focus their reports on the …
Multimodal Representation Learning For Face Understanding: From Caption Supervision To Foundation Model Adaptation, Md Mahedi Hasan
Multimodal Representation Learning For Face Understanding: From Caption Supervision To Foundation Model Adaptation, Md Mahedi Hasan
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The rapid advancement of intelligent surveillance systems and the increasing demand for reliable biometric identification in border security, public safety, and digital forensics require robust face understanding under unconstrained conditions, including low resolution, pose variation, and occlusion. While Vision Transformer (ViT)-based foundation models have greatly improved visual representation learning, their patch-based tokenization and lack of spatial inductive bias limit their ability to capture fine-grained details in low-resolution inputs. This dissertation investigates multimodal representation learning for face understanding through natural language supervision, large-scale face-caption pre-training, and parameter-efficient foundation model adaptation. It hypothesizes that textual supervision provides complementary semantic cues that improve …

Mineta Transportation Institute
Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) is a cornerstone of California’s climate and land use policy, promising walkable, compact neighborhoods near high-quality transit. However, these benefits are not always distributed equitably. This study introduces a scalable framework for identifying and scoring Affordable Transit-Oriented Development (A-TOD) across the state’s High-Quality Transit Areas (HQTAs). The goal is to equip policymakers, planners, and housing agencies with tools to evaluate station areas based on their physical form, affordability, and equity outcomes. Using a 1.5-mile network-based pedestrian buffer around over 66,000 transit stations, the research team developed a three-stage clustering and scoring system. Station areas were classified by …

Remote work has become increasingly accessible due to the growing acceptance of remote work arrangements following the COVID-19 pandemic. Some state actors, especially in countries which face a shortage of digital talent and have reputations as leisure-tourism destinations, have begun considering the opportunities for digital transformation or workforce upskilling that highly skilled remote workers may offer. This paper develops the case of remote workers in Thailand to argue that infrastructural stickiness is a critical determinant for effective knowledge transfer to occur. By infrastructural stickiness we refer to the regulatory and socio-material infrastructures that both attract and retain international remote workers …

“America Is For Americans Only”: Journalistic Professionalism, Populism, And Latino Ethnic Media In The 2024 U.S. Presidential Election, Maria Villarroel
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation examines how journalistic professionalism shaped news coverage of Latino-related issues during the 2024 U.S. presidential election across mainstream and Latino ethnic media outlets.
