Vibration-Based Fault Diagnosis In Industrial Rotating Machinery, Yaman Pandey
Vibration-Based Fault Diagnosis In Industrial Rotating Machinery, Yaman Pandey
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
Unplanned downtime caused by rotating machines results in a significant percentage of the total downtime in manufacturing plants. These downtimes cause significant loss of production time. While preventative maintenance helps minimize lot of these downtimes, it can’t predict the upcoming downtimes and prevent them from occurring. That gave birth to predictive maintenance. While various techniques are used for predictive maintenance, vibration analysis is one of them. In this study, data driven and expert validated diagnosis using vibration analysis for rotary machinery is used. The data is collected from a manufacturing site in Minnesota where 32 rotating assets, including motors and …

Impact Of Cross-Client Heterogeneity In Federated Learning For Real-World Plant Disease Classification, Ritesh Janga
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
Deep learning applications are being adopted in agricultural image analysis that include challenges of data privacy and limited institutional data and heterogeneity of different types of architectures. However, Federated Learning is a model that allows collaborative training on data that does not have to be shared among parties. Therefore, Federated Learning is an effective method of collaborative training; however, its comparative effectiveness as compared to individual (local) training on diverse architectures has never been examined in an agricultural context. The objective of this study was to examine Federated Learning for the purpose of crop disease classification on extreme non-IID distributed …

Open Educational Resources
This course explores the depiction of gender, race, and social class in Shakespeare’s plays, with a focus on how his works engage with and challenge the norms of early modern society. In this course, we will study two of Shakespeare’s comedies: Much Ado About Nothing and The Taming of the Shrew; as well as two of his tragedies: Romeo and Juliet and Othello in relation to the culture of early modern England. Through an in-depth study of these texts, students will examine the complexities of these social categories as portrayed in the plays and how they continue to resonate in …
Improving Nurse Confidence And Patient Safety Through Timely Nonpharmacologic Delirium Prevention Interventions: A Quality Improvement Project, Claire E. Mccabe
Improving Nurse Confidence And Patient Safety Through Timely Nonpharmacologic Delirium Prevention Interventions: A Quality Improvement Project, Claire E. Mccabe
Master's Theses and Capstones
Abstract
Background
Delirium prevention is an ongoing patient safety priority within a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) because delirium contributes to preventable patient harm, including unplanned device removal, prolonged mechanical ventilation, falls, increased mortality, and long-term cognitive impairment. Key signs of delirium include fluctuating awareness, severe confusion, disorganized thinking, and difficulty focusing. Although the ABCDEF bundle is established within the local MICU, an implementation gap remained in consistently integrating nonpharmacologic prevention strategies into routine nursing workflows.
Methods
The purpose of this quality improvement project was to improve nurse confidence, awareness of workflow opportunities, and implementation of evidence-based delirium prevention interventions …

Inferring Genes And Biological Systems Under Selective Pressure In The Secondarily Temperate Cryonotothenioids, Esteban Cabrera
Inferring Genes And Biological Systems Under Selective Pressure In The Secondarily Temperate Cryonotothenioids, Esteban Cabrera
Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects
Notothenioid fishes represent one of the most compelling examples of adaptive radiation driven by extreme environmental change, having diversified in the chronically cold waters of the Southern Ocean. While most cryonotothenioids evolved highly specialized cold-adapted characteristics, several secondarily temperate species later re-invaded warmer environments. These lineages provide a rare opportunity to examine evolutionary reversibility and the genomic mechanisms enabling escape from extreme specialization. In this study, we investigate two secondarily temperate species, Dissostichus eleginoides and Champsocephalus esox, comparing their protein-coding orthogroups to background sets from Antarctic cryonotothenioids and basal temperate teleosts. Using phylogeny based evolutionary models (BUSTED, aBSREL, and RELAX) …

Background: In recent years, the sociopolitical landscape in the United States has shifted due to an increase in state-level legislation regarding LGBTQ+ rights, a trend that has been particularly pronounced in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. While the mental health impacts of enacted laws are increasingly documented, a critical gap remains in understanding the psychological toll of the legislative debates themselves—the prolonged periods of public discourse surrounding the restriction of rights.
Methods: Utilizing data from the 2025 Queer Kentucky Survey (N = 817), this exploratory study examined the association between LGBTQ+ community belongingness and acute suicidality attributed specifically to anti-LGBTQ+ legislative …

Standalone virtual reality headsets integrate multiple sensors and cameras whose runtime behavior is not transparently documented, creating potential privacy and security risks that are difficult to audit using existing tools. The relationship between software feature activation and the underlying hardware engaged at runtime remains opaque, limiting the ability of users and researchers to assess what data is being collected and when.
This thesis presents XRMonitor, a unified framework for monitoring and analyzing sensor activation behavior and network traffic on Meta Quest devices. The framework is motivated by the lack of transparency in how standalone XR devices engage their hardware sensors …
The Functional Significance Of Plk1 Phosphorylation Of Nrf2 In Prostate Cancer Progression, Maria Nur
The Functional Significance Of Plk1 Phosphorylation Of Nrf2 In Prostate Cancer Progression, Maria Nur
Theses and Dissertations--Toxicology and Cancer Biology
Prostate cancer progression and therapeutic resistance are closely linked to alterations in redox homeostasis and cell cycle regulation. Nuclear factor erythroid 2–related factor 2 (NRF2) is a master regulator of antioxidant responses, yet the mechanisms integrating cell cycle signaling with NRF2 activity in prostate cancer remain poorly defined. In this study, we identify polo‑like kinase 1 (PLK1) as a novel regulator of NRF2 through direct phosphorylation at serine 253 (S253). Using bioinformatic prediction, mass spectrometry, in vitro kinase assays, and cell‑based analyses, we demonstrate that PLK1 phosphorylates NRF2 at S253 in a cell cycle–dependent manner, with maximal phosphorylation during mitosis. …

The Impact Of Extreme Risk Protection Orders On Homicide And Suicide: Are There Any Red Flags?, K. Alexander Adams
Wyoming Law Review
Twenty-two states have instituted Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) laws, also known as red flag laws. These laws allow law enforcement, family members, and others to petition courts to temporarily seize firearms from an individual believed to be a danger to themselves or others. These laws have been passed with the goal of reducing firearm-related homicide and suicide. This Article tests whether these laws save lives by using a generalized synthetic control model, improving upon the previously used difference-in-difference and standard synthetic control models. This preliminary study suggests ERPOs, as currently written, fail to statistically significantly reduce total homicide, total …

Teaching Equity Early: The Role Of Undergraduate Education In Improving Lgbtqia2s+ Medical Care, Arthur Morris
Honors Capstone Projects
Due to persistent barriers in the medical system, LGBTQIA2S+ people in America face harmful healthcare disparities. Healthcare providers’ ability to work with LGBTQIA2S+ patients is a critical component of mitigating this harm. While forms of provider education have begun to address the need for culturally compassionate LGBTQIA2S+ medical care, there appears to be an underutilized opportunity to introduce these concepts in undergraduate settings. By providing an early introduction to LGBTQIA2S+ compassionate care, undergraduate institutions can better equip aspiring medical students to serve people with diverse sexualities and gender identities, improving provider competency and contributing to a more equitable healthcare system. …
