Duke Farms in Hillsborough NJ, has historically been utilized as an agricultural zone for farming a variety of crops. Currently the area is protected with a focus on environmental conservation and restoration of the land. This includes getting a better understanding of the forested portions of the property. Understanding the quality of forested areas is vital as they have the potential to act as a carbon sink which can mitigate the effects of climate …

Effect Of Mid-Range Ultraviolet Light On Avian Embryonic Development, Keelie Hughes Jan 2026

Effect Of Mid-Range Ultraviolet Light On Avian Embryonic Development, Keelie Hughes

Biology Theses

While it is a known fact that specific environmental conditions must be met to ensure proper embryonic development, the impact of changes in this delicate balance is unclear. Ultraviolet (UV) light has a narrow range of effectiveness in mature tissue, where too little can hinder molecular signaling and too much can cause damage to genetic material. This study exposed in ovo chicken embryos in the preliminary stages of development to mid-range UV radiation to examine developing embryo and tissue morphology using anthropometric methods and comparing proliferative cells among embryos exposed to varying doses of UV light. Additionally, quantitative polymerase chain …

The Rise In Height And Curb Weight Of The Top-Selling Vehicles In The United States From 1991 - 2025: Implications For Engineering Design And Vulnerable Road Users, Samuel L. Steinman-Friedman

Civil Engineering Theses

Road fatalities are higher in the United States than in other high-income regions. In 2024, 39,254 people died on roads in the United States compared to 19,940 in the European Union. These two regions have comparable exposure metrics, such as population size, roadway network length, and fatalities per mile traveled. Light trucks dominate the U.S. market, whereas hatchbacks are prevalent in Europe. The trendline of the average height and curb weight of the top-selling vehicles in the United States has increased by 0.24 inches and 23.52 pounds per year since 1991. The average 2025 top-selling U.S. passenger vehicle is 7.5 …

A Machine Learning–Based Framework For Traffic Classification And Threshold-Based Load Management In 5g Network Slicing, Safi Ibrahim, Younis S. Younis, Kamal S. Hamza, Mohamed M. Ashour

Mansoura Engineering Journal

This study proposes a machine learning–based framework that applies machine learning techniques to improve the efficiency of 5G network slicing through automated traffic classification and threshold-based load management . The proposed model optimizes resource allocation among the three standardized 5G slice types: enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC), and massive Machine-Type Communication (mMTC). Two supervised learning algorithms—K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM)—are trained using Quality of Service (QoS) parameters such as packet delay, loss rate, and Quality Class Identifier (QCI). Experimental evaluations were conducted on two large-scale datasets containing over 400,000 traffic instances, demonstrating that the …

A Hybrid Geoid Model For The Perlis Region, Malaysia Based On Cadastral Reference Marks And A Geometric Approach, Muhammad Aiman Haiqal Abdul Malek, Muhammad Faiz Pa’Suya, Ramazan Alpay Abbak, Ami Hassan Md Din, Noorfatekah Talib

Mansoura Engineering Journal

This study presents the development of a high-resolution local geoid model for the Perlis region, Malaysia, using a geometric approach that integrates GNSS-levelling benchmarks with Cadastral Reference Mark (CRM) data. A total of 38 GNSS-levelling benchmarks were used as reference points, while 3,725 CRMs were incorporated to significantly enhance spatial coverage for geoid modelling. Orthometric heights at the CRM points were first determined by transferring heights from the reference benchmarks using gravimetric geoid information. Subsequently, geometric geoid heights were computed from the differences between ellipsoidal and orthometric heights. Five interpolation techniques were evaluated to generate the geometric geoid surface, namely …

Information Design And Mechanism Design: An Integrated Framework, Dirk Bergemann, Tibor Heumann, Stephen Morris Jan 2026

Information Design And Mechanism Design: An Integrated Framework, Dirk Bergemann, Tibor Heumann, Stephen Morris

Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers

We develop an integrated framework for information design and mechanism design in screening environments with quasilinear utility. Using the tools of majorization theory and quantile functions, we show that both information design and mechanism design problems reduce to maximizing linear functionals subject to majorization constraints. For mechanism design, the designer chooses allocations weakly majorized by the exogenous inventory. For information design, the designer chooses information structures that are majorized by the prior distribution. When the designer can choose both the mechanism and the information structure simultaneously, then the joint optimization problem becomes bilinear with two majorization constraints. We show that …

Extreme Points And Majorization, Andreas Kleiner, Benny Moldovanu, Philipp Strack Jan 2026

Extreme Points And Majorization, Andreas Kleiner, Benny Moldovanu, Philipp Strack

Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers

Many seemingly different economic problems share a common mathematical structure: they involve the maximization of a functional over sets of monotonic functions that are either majorized by, or majorize, a given function. This paper presents new, simpler proofs for the main characterization results of the extreme points of sets defined by monotonicity and majorization constraints obtained by Kleiner, Moldovanu, and Strack (2021). It demonstrates how these characterizations can be applied to a broad range of economic applications, including auction and information design, contest design, optimal delegation, optimal stopping, and decision problems under risk. The paper concludes with an overview of …

Four Feedback Tips For A Fifth Year, Annika Nielson Jan 2026

Four Feedback Tips For A Fifth Year, Annika Nielson

The Utah English Journal

Over the past four years of teaching writing, I’ve picked up a few lessons. One is that students will wait until the very last minute to submit a piece, no matter how much in-class drafting time I build into the schedule. Another is that many students see writing as big, bad, and boring: they have been trained to think that their writing will be corrected with red pens and long lists of mistakes.

Fda After Loper Bright, Erika Lietzan Jan 2026

Fda After Loper Bright, Erika Lietzan

Faculty Publications

Loper Bright, which overruled the Chevron decision from 1984, tells us that a court should determine the meaning of all statutory provisions for itself, rather than deferring to the views of the federal agencies that implement those provisions. But the overruling of Chevron may have less of an impact on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration than conventional wisdom supposes. Most challenges to FDA action do not concern its statutory interpretations. And the agency prevailed in most cases involving statutory interpretation, before the Chevron doctrine took hold. After 1984, when the doctrine did apply, the agency often lost cases at …

Do-It-Yourself Reparations, Martha M. Ertman Jan 2026

Do-It-Yourself Reparations, Martha M. Ertman

Faculty Scholarship

The magnitude of harms like white supremacy makes it difficult to precisely identify losses, let alone remedy them. Piecemeal approaches are essential, and private efforts may be the only option when public law and cultural norms deny or perpetuate the harms. This Article addresses one racial harm, the 10:1 racial wealth gap between white and black Americans, in the context of residential segregation over the past century. It contends that the equitable doctrine of restitution enables us to recognize and remedy the unjust enrichment enjoyed by white Baby Boomers caused by private law mechanisms such as racially restrictive covenants, all …

Protecting Those Who Protect Us: A Blueprint For Mandatory Mental Wellness Standards For First Responders, Joy Hutchinson Jan 2026

Protecting Those Who Protect Us: A Blueprint For Mandatory Mental Wellness Standards For First Responders, Joy Hutchinson

Faculty & Staff Scholarship

First responders, including firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), dispatchers/telecommunicators, and corrections officers, serve as the backbone of public safety in the United States. Their work requires rapid decision-making, repeated exposure to traumatic events, and sustained emotional regulation in high-stakes environments (Hoell et al., 2023; Vig et al., 2020). Despite their critical roles, mental health support across these professions remains inconsistent, optional, and largely reactive rather than preventative, with many systems relying on self-referral only after crisis onset (Burke, 2021; Johnston et al., 2025).

Between 2021 and 2025, U.S.-based research has documented alarming levels of burnout, depression, anxiety, …

The International Order, International Law, And The Definition Of Security, Harlan Grant Cohen Jan 2026

The International Order, International Law, And The Definition Of Security, Harlan Grant Cohen

Michigan Journal of International Law

As economic security has seemingly moved to the center of American and European foreign policy, both the United States and the European Union have broadened their interpretation of international law rules governing security, coercion, and intervention. But these interpretations are not exactly new, echoing developing state interpretations of international law that developed states had long ago seemingly rejected. How are these once moribund interpretations of security, force, and coercion being brought back to life?

This article argues that these interpretative shifts highlight the role of the international order as an interpretative mechanism within international law. Borrowing from the work of …

Oregon, Elizabeth Ford Jan 2026

Oregon, Elizabeth Ford

Thin Blue Advantage: Police Exceptionalism and the Two-Tier System of Public Sector Collective Bargaining

In Oregon has historically seen distinctions between the treatment of police and non-police bargaining units but has recently made statutory changes to address some of those issues.

  • Oversight. In 2023, Oregon enacted a change to its public sector collective bargaining statute exempting from bargaining an oversight system enacted by popular vote.
  • Statutory Scope. Oregon’s statute provides a broader scope of bargaining for police in other areas such as safety issues
  • Oversight and Work Transfer Decisions. Before 2023, Oregon’s Employment Relations Board set a more favorable standard for bargaining oversight and work transfers from police bargaining units.
  • Impasse …

Fair Use In The Supreme Court: A Peek Behind The Scenes, Jonathan Band Jan 2026

Fair Use In The Supreme Court: A Peek Behind The Scenes, Jonathan Band

Joint PIJIP/TLS Research Paper Series

Between 1975 and 1994, the Supreme Court considered five cases that involved fair use: Williams & Wilkins v. United States; Sony v. Universal City Studios; Harper & Row v. Nation Enterprises; Stewart v. Abend; and Campbell v. Acuff-Rose. The papers of the Supreme Court Justices that decided these cases show the Court as a profoundly human institution with the Justices often struggling to fashion opinions that could gain the support of a majority. The Justices clearly cared about the copyright merits, but they were also willing to compromise to achieve a certain result. In several …

Mapping Coastal Vegetation To Evaluate Salt Marsh Decline From 2016 To 2025 In South Carolina, Usa, Zak Henry Bartholomew

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Accelerating sea-level rise and storm surge events pose a substantial threat to salt marsh ecosystems, which provide critical ecosystem services. Classification and mapping of coastal vegetation through remote sensing can identify marsh dieback events and provide spatial context for patterns of marsh vulnerability. We used a multi-sensor approach that incorporated LiDAR data, multispectral imagery, and field-derived cover estimates to classify Spartina alterniflora (smooth cordgrass) dominated marsh types on Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island (MCRDPI), a sea island in South Carolina, USA. In summer 2025, surveys were conducted within marsh classes to collect training and validation data. We used random …

Legal Professional Identity Development: An Exploration Of The Social And Emotional Processes By Which Law Students Transition From Novices To Professionals, David Hall Abney Ii

Theses and Dissertations--Communication

This dissertation seeks to heed the call for expansion of instructional communication research (ICR) beyond the undergraduate classroom and undergraduate learning objectives by exploring older learners and higher-order affective learning objectives. Legal professional identity development (LPID) is a discipline-specific type of higher-order affective learning that is conceptualized as a continuous nonlinear process that begins in law school and extends throughout a lawyer’s career, involving the internalization of the legal profession’s core values and norms and their integration with an evolving identity. Using a pragmatic ICR approach and a mixed-methods design, Phase 1 employed individual interviews and focus groups to investigate …

Within these fanfics, militarism can serve as a barrier to intimacy, forcing relationships to adapt to militaristic structures within these fan interpretations.

Students As Information Responders – Extending Our Understanding Of Students At A Pwi, Anyiah S. Chambers Jan 2026

Students As Information Responders – Extending Our Understanding Of Students At A Pwi, Anyiah S. Chambers

Theses and Dissertations--Communication

As school shootings continue to rise across the United States, understanding how students respond to and share information during crises has become a critical concern for higher education institutions. While prior research has examined the role of students as first information responders (FIRs) during emergencies, few studies have investigated how these processes unfold among Black and non-Black students at predominantly white institutions (PWIs). This mixed methods study is a replication and extension of Omilion-Hodges and Edwards (2021), examining how undergraduate Black and non-Black students at PWIs evaluate, construct, and disseminate crisis-related messages, particularly during active-shooter events. Grounded in channel specification …
