“I Don’T Want To Be The Bad Kind Of Special”: The Lived Experiences Of Autistic Youth In Extracurricular Programs In Their Communities, Catherine A. Sargent Ph.D.
Counseling and Psychology Dissertations
Autistic youth face barriers to participation and belonging in community settings. Historically, autism research has privileged researcher perspectives and deficit-based frameworks, often excluding the authentic voices of autistic individuals, particularly young people. This qualitative, phenomenological study sought to address that gap by exploring the lived experiences of autistic youth (ages 13–18) participating in extracurricular community programs in Massachusetts. Framed by critical disability theory, critical autism studies, ecological systems theory, and intersectionality, the study examined how autistic youth experience inclusion, connection, and self-expression within programs designed largely for neurotypical participants.
Seven autistic youths contributed to this research through participant-generated photographs and …

Complexity Mindsets, Complex Flow, And More: A Qualitative Grounded Theory Study On The Phenomenon Of Practitioners Working Within Complex Social Systems, Emma D. Stellman
Educational Studies Dissertations
This qualitative grounded theory study addressed gaps in the literature regarding the application of complexity theory to complex social phenomena (CSP), for which no straightforward solutions or simple interventions exist. While complexity theory has played an important role in groundbreaking innovations in quantitative fields such as medicine, engineering, and finance, its application remains limited in human-centered developmental domains including education, social work, and healthcare. Using a grounded theory design informed by phenomenological approaches, this study examined the lived experiences of a group of six CSP practitioners, each of whom participated in two individual, semi-structured video interviews. Interview data were analyzed …

Single-Valued Neutrosophic Pessimistic Multi-Granulation Rough Set Model Based On (A,B,C)-Cut Relations And Its Applications, Xu-Xi Wu, Hu Zhao, Qiao-Ling Song, Xiong-Wei Zhang
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
To address uncertainty in multi-source data, this paper proposes a single-valued neutrosophic pessimistic multi-granulation rough set (P-SVN-MGRS) model based on (a,b,c)-cut relations. In this framework, each neutrosophic relation is characterized by three membership-degree functions: T(x,y), I(x,y), and F(x,y). These functions correspond to truth-membership, indeterminacy, and falsity, respectively. The (α,β,γ)-cut relation employs parameters α,β,γ∈(0,1] as thresholds for the three functions. A pair (x,y) belongs to …

A landlord sued former tenants for rent arrears. Tenants defaulted, and a judgment was entered against them. Tenants successfully moved to vacate the default judgment, raising the issue of improper service. The court found that the tenants' objection to personal jurisdiction was preserved. Subsequently, tenants timely moved to dismiss the complaint for lack of personal jurisdiction, arguing that service was attempted at their former address seven months after they had vacated. The court agreed, finding that service was not made in strict compliance with CPLR 308 (2) as the address was not their dwelling place or usual abode. The motion …

Writing From The Rift: Queer Temporality And The Refusal Of Resolution, Daniela Ruiz Perez
Writing From The Rift: Queer Temporality And The Refusal Of Resolution, Daniela Ruiz Perez
Masters Theses
This thesis develops a phenomenological method for reading speculative literature as a site where queer ecological temporality is experienced rather than explained. Working with Annihilation (2014) by Jeff VanderMeer, The Day of the Triffids (1951) by John Wyndham, and Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons from Marine Mammals (2020) by Alexis Pauline Gumbs, the project treats reading as a bodily practice shaped by forms of attention. Texts are not interpreted for stable meaning and instead I remain with moments where resolution is withheld. The work is informed by a Marxist attention to how capitalist time organizes labor, productivity, and value, and how …

Hypoxic eye diseases represent a pivotal yet often underappreciated contributor to the onset and progression of many retinal disorders. When hypoxia persists or exceeds the tissue's compensatory capacity, it triggers pathological retinal neovascularization, blood-retinal barrier disruption, and neuronal apoptosis, ultimately resulting in irreversible visual impairment. Connexins (Cxs) form gap junction channels and hemichannels and regulate retinal cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival, thereby playing a central regulatory role in the pathogenesis of hypoxic ocular diseases. In addition to gap junctions, Cx hemichannels promote transmission of molecules between intra- and extracellular environments, further influencing retinal homeostasis under hypoxic stress. This review synthesizes …

Criminal justice system (CJS) involvement is common among individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD), yet limited research examines retention in medications for OUD (MOUD) within community settings. This study assessed whether CJS involvement predicted retention on buprenorphine/naloxone and explored related demographic and clinical factors. A retrospective cohort included adults (n = 367) enrolled in a low-barrier outpatient MOUD program in Texas (January 2022–April 2024). CJS involvement was identified from program records. Retention was measured as the number of continuous days with buprenorphine/naloxone prescriptions. Analyses used univariate tests, logistic regression, and nonparametric kernel regression. Nearly one-quarter (24.8%) were CJS-involved. Retention at …

The production of polyvinylidene fluoride nanofibers by force-spinning from polymer solutions was confirmed by electron microscopy. The structural and phase characteristics of the resulting nanofiber mats were examined using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy in Attenuated Total Reflectance mode, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray Diffraction. Results from all these techniques consistently indicated that both the powder and the mats of polyvinylidene fluoride predominantly contain the α phase, with a small admixture of the β phase. Within experimental errors, no other phases were noticed both in the powder and in the as-obtained mats. The ratios of the areas of the Raman lines at …

Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Islamic Economics
The constant concern for ensuring that the basic needs of every human are met has prompted various steps with an aim to promote equality. This concern has eventually led to an increasing demand to guarantee a reasonable standard of living. Some economists have recently revisited the concept of Universal Basic Income (UBI) that has caught the interest of some governments and policy makers. This paper investigates the concept of UBI from historical, legal (Islamic), and Maqāṣidī perspectives. It traces the conceptual origins of UBI back to the Islamic society since the early Islamic history. Adopting a conceptual–analytical methodology, the paper …

This study investigates how foreign bank presence affects financial stability, focusing on the differences between Islamic and conventional banks operating in Indonesia. Using a fixed-effects regression model of panel data of 108 banks over ten years (18 Islamic banks and 90 conventional banks), the Z-score is the dependent variable of stability, and foreign presence is assessed through foreign bank assets (FBA) and foreign bank number (FBN). This research finds that growing foreign bank number (FBN) positively affects stability, while growing foreign bank assets (FBA) negatively affects stability in the short run. In addition, Islamic banks are more stable than conventional …
Improving Stem Assessments: Strategies For Increasing The Accessibility And Adoption Of Two-Stage Exams, Kristina Callaghan
Improving Stem Assessments: Strategies For Increasing The Accessibility And Adoption Of Two-Stage Exams, Kristina Callaghan
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Over three decades of research have shown that students taught using active learning strategies achieve better learning outcomes compared to those taught using traditional methods. Two-stage exams, which pair a traditional exam with a group component, are an increasingly popular method for incorporating active learning within the assessment component of a course. Previous studies have shown this assessment strategy provides a variety of benefits for students, including increased engagement and collaboration, immediate feedback, and potentially increased content retention. However, the unique circumstances of each instructor can pose a non-trivial barrier to the implementation of two-stage exams. In this thesis, we …

Codegen-3d: A Benchmark For Evaluating Llms In Zero-Shot And Iterative 3d Modeling In Blender, Hao Ji, Kotha Aditya, Sebastian Escalante, Yunjian Qiu
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Large Language Models (LLMs) that generate executable code are opening a new path to text-to-3D by converting natural language prompts into scripts for modeling software like Blender. However, there is a lack of evaluation for such methods currently. Existing benchmarks focus on direct mesh synthesis and overlook critical factors like code execution reliability and human-aligned quality. To address this gap, we introduce CodeGen-3D, a comprehensive benchmark and protocol for assessing 3D modeling via code generation. The benchmark consists of 100 diverse prompts derived from Objaverse with rich captions (Cap3D, DiffuRank, and Llama-based), a standardized Blender execution and six-view rendering pipeline, …
