Lesions are clinically characterized as symmetrically distributed, monomorphic, folliculocentric, hyperkeratotic papules with a variable degree of perifollicular erythema. The appearance can be likened to spikey bumps that are commonly located on the arms, legs, and buttocks. Awareness of KP is important as every primary care clinician will see patients with this disorder. Identification can support the diagnosis of other associated skin diseases. Education about KP and its treatment may alleviate psychological …

The Efficacy Of The Fitzpatrick Scale In Clinical Practice, Dana Olsen, Cecilia Nguyen, Marshall Hall, Michael Carletti, Stephen E. Weis Feb 2026

The Efficacy Of The Fitzpatrick Scale In Clinical Practice, Dana Olsen, Cecilia Nguyen, Marshall Hall, Michael Carletti, Stephen E. Weis

HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine

Many skin diseases can manifest differently depending on the pigment of one’s skin. The Fitzpatrick scale is a classification of phototypes (I-VI) that categorizes patients' skin based on its ability to tan and burn. Even though it is a simple questionnaire, the Fitzpatrick scale has numerous criticisms due to its dependence on patients’ self-perception, variability in how questions are asked, limited range, and the underestimation of the risk of skin cancers. Alternatives to the Fitzpatrick scale include the melanin index, pigment protection factor, a visual color scale, and using artificial intelligence along with existing or new scales. Having a more …

Based on this comparison, the system generates a definitive root cause verdict. Furthermore, …

Architectural Design Generation Using Graph-Based Constraint Optimization And Conditioned Generative Models, Arpit Goyal Feb 2026

Architectural Design Generation Using Graph-Based Constraint Optimization And Conditioned Generative Models, Arpit Goyal

Defensive Publications Series

Generative models for architectural design can have difficulty adhering to complex constraints, such as directional rules from specific cultural frameworks, which may result in layouts with functional or symbolic limitations. A computational framework can address this by integrating rule-based logic with generative models. The system can translate user requirements and geospatial data into an abstract graph where rooms are represented as nodes. A logic engine, which can utilize a component such as a graph neural network, can optimize the placement of these nodes according to predefined adjacency and directional rules. The resulting optimized spatial graph can be used to create …

Spectral And Coded Traceability Of Scrap Using Chemical Tags With Spectroscopic-Based Recognition, Gibson Greenlee, John Mccallum, Cameron Koentopp, Adwait Thakur Feb 2026

Spectral And Coded Traceability Of Scrap Using Chemical Tags With Spectroscopic-Based Recognition, Gibson Greenlee, John Mccallum, Cameron Koentopp, Adwait Thakur

Defensive Publications Series

Recycling streams such as used beverage cans (UBC) often arrive as tightly packed bales from many different suppliers, and once those bales are broken apart the pieces mix together, making it difficult to trace contamination or quality problems back to their source. This creates uncertainty in meeting internal specifications and can lower recycled content in cast products. To make the material traceable after debaling, incoming bales are lightly tagged with supplier-specific chemical markers that are chosen to be visible to spectroscopic detection but unobtrusive to normal processing. Markers can be carried in a simple spray or roll‑on coating, applied at …

Battery State Estimation, Kang Kang, Yu Wang, Alex Pelosi, Emil Chen, Ishu Pradhan Feb 2026

Battery State Estimation, Kang Kang, Yu Wang, Alex Pelosi, Emil Chen, Ishu Pradhan

Defensive Publications Series

Estimating a battery's state of charge (SoC) can become more difficult as a device, for example a mobile phone or vehicle, ages. This difficulty may be partly due to a potential circular dependency where SoC calculations may depend on the battery's state of health (SoH), and SoH estimation may in turn rely on an accurate SoC. A technique is described to address this challenge by decoupling these two estimations. A system can use a machine learning model to generate an independent SoH estimate based on operational data features, such as differential charge with respect to voltage. This SoH estimate can …
