Characterization Of Jet Formation And Scalability Of Fan Array Wind Generator Using Experimentation And Large Eddy Simulation, Md Rafi Ur Rahman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Small unmanned and autonomous aerial vehicles are often required to operate within the turbulent atmospheric boundary layer and other degraded environments, where local turbulent behavior can strongly influence stability, control, and navigational performance. Despite the operational importance of these degraded environments, systematic studies of the associated aerodynamic challenges remain limited. One reason is the lack of suitable laboratory settings for repeatable and robust testing of atmospheric-like wind conditions. To address this gap, this experimental and computational work characterizes baseline conditions of a modular multi-source wind generation system that can be used to simulate flight relevant atmospheric conditions. Through complimentary Large …

Investigation Of Target Detection In Hyperspectral Images For Aided Target Recognition, Mazharul Hossain Apr 2026

Investigation Of Target Detection In Hyperspectral Images For Aided Target Recognition, Mazharul Hossain

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Aided/Automatic Target Recognition (AiTR/ATR) enhances human decision-making by improving the detection, localization, and interpretation of targets in sensor imagery. Hyperspectral (HS) imaging provides rich spectral information for AiTR that can significantly improve target detection; however, HS detectors often perform unreliably in real-world conditions due to high data dimensionality, limited labeled training data, class imbalance, sensitivity to environmental and sensor variations, and a shortage of pre-trained models. These challenges frequently lead to degraded performance when models trained in one setting are deployed in different scenes, sensors, or operating conditions. The overarching goal of this dissertation is to make hyperspectral target detection …

All Decisions

In this holdover proceeding, the tenant moved to dismiss for landlord's alleged failure to comply with Good Cause Eviction Law (GCEL) disclosure requirements, arguing the predicate notice was fatally defective. The landlord cross-moved to amend the petition. The court denied the tenant's motion, holding that the GCEL notice under RPL § 231-c only requires the landlord to check the appropriate exemption box, not disclose detailed ownership information. The court granted the landlord's motion to amend the petition, allowing the case to proceed, noting that the landlord bears the burden of proving the truth of its allegations at trial.

Visualizing Perception: Systems Of Perception And Cognition In Animal Species, Felicia Soto Apr 2026

Visualizing Perception: Systems Of Perception And Cognition In Animal Species, Felicia Soto

Theses

Animal species utilize various modes of perception based on their individual adaptations and survival needs. The sensory organs of an organism serve as an interface between the present environment and the organism’s central nervous system (Dangles et. al, 2009). An organism will make decisions based on the information being perceived and processed by that individual's nervous system. Studies investigate the mechanisms of these interactions in a variety of ways, from studying physiology and functional morphology, to conducting observational studies of perception. These studies concerning perception and cognition in animals can help to uncover parallels between animal species, as well as …

Mitochondrial Presequences Harbor Variable Strengths To Maintain Organellar Function, Youmian Yan, Baigalmaa Erdenepurev, Thiago N Menezes, Ian Collinson, Natalie M Niemi

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Hundreds of mitochondrial proteins rely on N-terminal presequences for organellar targeting and import. While generally described as positively charged amphiphilic helices, presequences lack a consensus motif and thus likely promote protein import into mitochondria with variable efficiencies. Indeed, the concept of presequence strength underlies biological models such as stress sensing, yet a quantitative analysis of what dictates strong versus weak presequences is lacking. Furthermore, the extent to which presequence strength affects mitochondrial function and cellular fitness remains unclear. Here, we capitalize on the MitoLuc protein import assay to define multiple aspects of presequence strength. We find that select presequences, including …

Faculty Research 2026

Precision medicine aims to enhance diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis by integrating multimodal data at the point of care. However, challenges arise due to the vast number of diseases, differing methods of classification, and conflicting terminological coding systems and practices used to represent molecular definitions of disease. This lack of interoperability artificially constrains the potential for diagnosis, clinical decision support, care outcome analysis, as well as data linkage across research domains to support the development or repurposing of therapeutics. There is a clear and pressing need for a unified system for managing disease entities-including identifiers, synonyms, and definitions. To address these …

Physical Space And Democratic Citizenship: Third Place Usage And Civic Engagement Among Undergraduates, Justin L. Fintel Apr 2026

Physical Space And Democratic Citizenship: Third Place Usage And Civic Engagement Among Undergraduates, Justin L. Fintel

Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)

This thesis examines the relationship between third place usage and civic engagement levels among undergraduate students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Drawing on urban planning and political science literature, I hypothesize that students who more frequently use and interact with campus third places—which are informal communal spaces that foster community, such as coffee shops, libraries, and student unions—demonstrate higher levels of civic engagement. Using survey data from thirty-eight undergraduates and ordinary least squares regression analysis, I find strong support for my hypothesis. Third place usage significantly predicts civic engagement (β = 0.609, p < 0.001) statistically, and this relationship remains robust even after controlling for family socialization and socioeconomic status. The findings suggest that physical spaces on college campuses play an independent role in promoting democratic citizenship beyond students' pre-existing characteristics. These results have important implications for university and urban planning, while highlighting the value of investing in communal campus spaces as mechanisms for promoting civic participation.

Federated Learning With Deep Learning: A Comprehensive Survey, Sarah H. Mnkash, Faiz A. Alawy, Israa T. Ali

Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering

Federated Learning (FL) introduces a decentralized machine learning paradigm where model training occurs directly on user devices, ensuring data privacy by keeping sensitive information local. This approach ensures data privacy and security by keeping all sensitive or personally identifiable information local to the device, thereby eliminating the need to transfer or centralize raw data. In this survey, we examine federated deep learning — its challenges, recent developments, application domains, privacy preservation strategies, and future trends. We will give some primitive reference papers of the heterogeneity of statistics and systems, communication cost, fairness, and trust. Applications in health, Internet of Things …
