Acute Effects Of Tempering On Biomechanical Tissue Characteristics In The Lower Back, Danielle Rae Marie Alley
Acute Effects Of Tempering On Biomechanical Tissue Characteristics In The Lower Back, Danielle Rae Marie Alley
Undergraduate Honors Thesis Collection
Body tempering (BT) is a novel, myofascial release technique that is growing in popularity among sports medicine and performance practitioners. No studies have explored its effects on biomechanical tissue characteristics or its influence on perceived disablement within the thoracolumbar spine region. The aim of this study was to examine the acute effects of BT on soft-tissue characteristics and perceived disablement in the thoracolumbar spine region. A randomized controlled trial was used to study 22 young adults (10 males, 12 females, age=21.1±0.68 years, height=170.6±11.8 cm, mass=65.2±14.2 kg). Treatment group participants received a 1-minute BT treatment to the soft tissues of their …
The Impact Of Sensory Processing Disorder On Elementary-Aged Students In The Classroom And Proper Teacher Responses, Sophia Slater
The Impact Of Sensory Processing Disorder On Elementary-Aged Students In The Classroom And Proper Teacher Responses, Sophia Slater
Senior Honors Theses
Sensory processing disorder (SPD) is when an individual cannot correctly process an incoming stimulus from the surrounding environment. This is prevalent in young children as they are beginning to learn about the world around them. Their inability to properly process information through their senses affects their daily lives and creates a challenge for them. There are also co-occurrences of SPD with both autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactive disorder. Since most of a child’s time is spent in the classroom, it is imperative that teachers understand the disorder and proper strategies to assist these students as they learn. Occupational …
News, Breaking: The Enduring Role Of Local Journalism Amidst Rapid Digitalization And Media Market Decline, Emily Atha
News, Breaking: The Enduring Role Of Local Journalism Amidst Rapid Digitalization And Media Market Decline, Emily Atha
Senior Honors Theses
The landscape of media production and consumerization is evolving with the ushering in of an increasingly digital era. Print newspapers are declining, digital media is delivered faster than ever and social platforms are gaining dominance. The evolution of the industry challenges the role of local news organizations and the ethics they are built upon. Not only have the modes of news collection and delivery changed, but the core perceptions and relationship between the media and public are shifting. This thesis seeks to understand how the digitalization of media and integration of artificial intelligence into digital journalism affect public trust, particularly …

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, otherwise known as (POTS) is a neurological condition that affects the autonomic nervous system. POTS often presents in adolescent women. This review looks at research surrounding possible treatment modalities including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. The goal of this review is to increase healthcare provider knowledge surrounding POTS and increase the speed and efficiency at which POTS is diagnosed and treated in adolescents. This will be done by surveying the current research for best treatment methods, common comorbidities, and reasoning for delayed diagnosis. Common symptoms seen in POTS include syncope and pre-syncope, dizziness, fatigue, and decreased cognitive …
An Exploration Of The Autorotating Pendulum Model, Vlad Nita
An Exploration Of The Autorotating Pendulum Model, Vlad Nita
Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects
Autorotation is the spontaneous rotation of an object, usually caused by an external fluid flow. The study of autorotation has many physical applications, such as in the design of wind/water turbines. In this thesis, we explore a nonlinear pendulum ordinary differential equation (ODE) which is used to model rotating plates in a fluid and has the capacity to reveal autorotation. In the context of an ODE, autorotation emerges as a bifurcation past oscillations, when the initial velocity of the system crosses a particular threshold. In his classic study from 1983, Lugt [14] utilizes this equation to capture experimental autorotation. Copeland’s …
Conceptualizing A Responsive Design Pedagogy To Support Teachers' Responsiveness To Students' Mathematical Ideas Through Making, Denish Ogweno Akuom
Conceptualizing A Responsive Design Pedagogy To Support Teachers' Responsiveness To Students' Mathematical Ideas Through Making, Denish Ogweno Akuom
Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects
This study develops Responsive Design Pedagogy (RDP), a conceptual and analytic model of teacher responsiveness in design-based environments, to account for how responsiveness emerges through interactions among students, tools, and tasks. Although responsiveness has been widely studied in mathematics education, limited attention has been given to responsiveness within mathematical design activity and to how teachers attend to the multiple modes through which students express their mathematical ideas. Addressing these gaps, this qualitative study examined one teacher’s enactment of responsiveness in a Learning-by-Design classroom where students designed and used 3D-printed mathematical tools. Data sources included classroom video, student design artifacts, teacher …
Improving Genomic Prediction For Feed Efficiency Traits In Beef Cattle Using Microbiome As An Intermediate Omics, Egodage Bhagya Sewwandi Samarakoon
Improving Genomic Prediction For Feed Efficiency Traits In Beef Cattle Using Microbiome As An Intermediate Omics, Egodage Bhagya Sewwandi Samarakoon
Department of Animal Science: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Feed efficiency traits, including feed conversion ratio (FCR), average daily gain (ADG), and average daily dry matter intake (ADDMI), are economically important in beef cattle production. Emerging evidence suggests that host genetics influences feed efficiency traits through the microbiome. This study evaluates the integration of microbiome data as an intermediate layer in the Neural Network Mixed Model (NNMM), which hierarchically models genotype–microbiome–phenotype relationships as a unified regulatory network to improve genomic prediction accuracy. To reduce the computational burden of NNMM, microbiome features dimension were reduced using principal component analysis (PCA) and direct feature selection of top-ranked open reading frames (ORFs) …

No differences were detected between PR and TAG for ending BW, average daily gain (ADG), dry matter intake (DMI), …
Rehumanizing Anatomized Individuals: Using Osteobiographies As A Step Towards Reparative Justice, Lillie C. Turpin
Rehumanizing Anatomized Individuals: Using Osteobiographies As A Step Towards Reparative Justice, Lillie C. Turpin
Department of Anthropology: Theses and Student Research
In 1985, India banned the export of human remains. This ended the major trade route for primarily US and European anatomical supply companies. Until this point, companies like Carolina Biological Supply exploited and erased vulnerable people's identities, molding them into anonymous anatomical specimens. This study investigates the life and postmortem history of twenty-five individuals, previously used as anatomical specimens, housed at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Using an osteobiographical approach, this research reconstructs aspects of these individuals' lived experiences and examines how anatomical preparation practices reflect structural violence and apathy.
Skeletal analysis of twenty-five individuals revealed a range of biological profiles, …

Wind In A Dry Glass, Khia Hong
Wind In A Dry Glass, Khia Hong
Theses and Dissertations
Khia Hong’s paper unfolds in five sections, tracing the ontological and epistemological inquiries behind her sculptures. When the sculptures stepped down from the pedestal and entered the plane of lived reality, the question “What is sculpture?” expanded into “What is sculpture, the self, and the world?” Through reflections on the self, Hong details how these questions emerge and are addressed in her material encounters.

Bugs, Birds, Blue: Queer Ecologies Of Embodiment, Kinship, And Survival, Celeste B. Newcomb
Bugs, Birds, Blue: Queer Ecologies Of Embodiment, Kinship, And Survival, Celeste B. Newcomb
Theses and Dissertations
bugs, birds, blue is a multi-channel audiovisual installation that examines queer ecology as a framework for understanding transgender embodiment, kinship, and survival amid environmental crisis and ongoing political attacks on trans life (Mortimer-Sandilands and Erickson). Through sculpture, projection, sound, reflective surfaces, and biological imagery, the installation places human bodily matter alongside microbial and aquatic life forms to challenge narratives that frame trans existence as unnatural, recent, or isolated. Instead, the work proposes transness as relational, adaptive, and deeply entangled with broader ecological systems. The installation is composed of two interconnected environments. On one side of the space, three aquariums rest …

Genetic Screen For Regulators Of Pol4, A Dna Repair Polymerase In Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, Pasang Dolma Sherpa
Genetic Screen For Regulators Of Pol4, A Dna Repair Polymerase In Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, Pasang Dolma Sherpa
Theses and Dissertations
In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, DNA polymerase 4 (POL4) is the beta repair polymerase, the product of the POL4 gene, and is involved in base excision repair (BER) and microhomology-mediated end joining (MMEJ). Despite its involvement in these repair pathways and its conservation across eukaryotes, deletion of POL4 shows no detectable phenotype under standard laboratory conditions. I hypothesized that unknown genes act as backup systems, providing redundant activities that allow pol4Δ cells to survive. To test this, a genetic screen for mutants showing synthetic lethality with pol4Δ was implemented. I constructed a strain lacking the POL4 gene and carrying …
Lemonade Everything Was So Infinite, Lauren Cline
Lemonade Everything Was So Infinite, Lauren Cline
Theses and Dissertations
In “Lemonade Everything Was So Infinite,” artist Lauren Cline uses her process-based approach to painting as a metaphor for the relationship between mundanity and eternity. Utilizing various frameworks, including the autobiographical writings of Hélène Cixous and the theology of Simone Weil, as well as examples from her own artworks, the artist suggests that there is a universal human need for the dissipation of the singular, isolated self, and explores various ways that this can be achieved.

Private Equity, State Enforcement, And Arbitration Outcomes Under The No Surprises Act: Evidence From Air Ambulance Disputes, Peter Readman
Theses and Dissertations
The No Surprises Act (NSA) removed patients from responsibility for out-of-network surprise medical bills. In its place, the NSA established an independent dispute resolution (IDR) process through which providers and insurers submit competing payment offers to an arbitrator, who selects one offer in full. Using the universe of federal air ambulance IDR disputes from Q1 2023 through Q2 2025 (57,368 dispute line items), I examine whether provider ownership structure and enforcement jurisdiction jointly predict arbitration outcomes. The two outcomes, whether the provider offer prevails, and how large that prevailing offer is relative to the benchmark payment rate, the Qualifying Payment …

Heirloomed: An Italian-American Daughter Weaving Past And Present, Catherine Santino
Theses and Dissertations
Amid a string of family deaths, writer and journalist Catherine Santino found herself preoccupied by the idea of lineage and inheritance. As she digs into her Sicilian heritage, she explores how the traditions and values set forth by her family’s matriarchs have shaped the woman she’s still becoming. From grappling with the shame caused by the Roman Catholic Church’s teachings of purity to examining how Italian food customs impacted her body image, Santino interrogates the complicated truth that the belief systems she was raised with offer both comfort and torment.
