Screening For Uterine Fibroids In Black Women, Winnie N. Kagendo
Screening For Uterine Fibroids In Black Women, Winnie N. Kagendo
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects
Background: Uterine fibroids are benign growths in the uterine muscle that affect around 70% of women. Black women have a higher risk, with three times the likelihood of developing fibroids compared to other races.
Problem: The issue of uterine fibroids continues to be poorly addressed in healthcare settings. Black women continue to be particularly adversely impacted by this problem. There is a lack of better screening methods, leading to late detection and limited treatment options for those hoping to maintain fertility.
Methods: A quality improvement project was implemented at a primary care clinic in Loma Linda, California, using the Uterine …
Enhancing Mental Health Assessments For Hysterectomy Patients: Implementing A Depression Screening Tool For Healthcare Clinicians, Dede Mihedji
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects
Background: Hysterectomies are prevalent in the United States ranging from
5.1 to 5.8 per 1000 women (Harnod et al., 2018). A standardized screening tool for assessing preoperative depression could mitigate the worsening of postoperative depressive symptoms in patients scheduled for a hysterectomy. Local Problem: Currently, there is no standard practice for preoperative depression screening in hysterectomy patients. Studies have identified that a hysterectomy may increase the risk of cardiovascular events, menopause, depression, and other outcomes (Madueke-Laveaux et al., 2022). Methods: To address the gap, clinicians attended a fifteen-minute Zoom course on the Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9) and its …

Focused Assessment With Sonography Exams Vs Ct Scan, Anne Kresge, Charlotte Mueller, Briar Tures
Physician Assistant Capstones, 2020-current
Blunt trauma is a common reason patients present to the emergency department. Providers must evaluate these patients quickly to get them the correct treatment, especially for intra-abdominal bleeding. Focused assessment with sonography for trauma (FAST) exams are growing in use to evaluate trauma patients for free fluid in the abdomen. To be valuable to emergency providers, it must be known how FAST exams compare to the gold standard evaluation, computed tomography (CT) scans. Searches were done on Pubmed and Scopus databases using terms “focused assessment with sonography for trauma” and “FAST exam CT blunt abdominal trauma.” Limits were added to …

Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Abstract
Background: Supporting preterm infants with mother’s own milk (MOM) can improve health outcomes and decrease mortality.1 Freshly pumped MOM, within four hours of expression, has the highest availability of bioactive components versus stored MOM. However, fresh milk is often not readily available due to the disconnected process of breastfeeding that occurs with preterm infants in the NICU. One convenient solution to improve access to fresh MOM is for the mother to pump at the infant's bedside. This intervention could improve the mother's pumping experience and provide the infant access to fresh MOM.
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate …

Immune checkpoint inhibitors have revolutionized cancer therapy, yet the efficacy of these treatments is often limited by the heterogeneous and hypoxic tumor microenvironment (TME) of solid tumors. In the TME, programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression on cancer cells is mainly regulated by Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), which induces T cell exhaustion and enables tumor immune evasion. In this study, we demonstrate that acidosis, a common characteristic of solid tumors, significantly increases IFN-γ-induced PD-L1 expression on aggressive cancer cells, thus promoting immune escape. Using preclinical models, we found that acidosis enhances the genomic expression and phosphorylation of signal transducer and activator of transcription …

The Difference Method Makes: Judicial Restraint And Judicial Creativity In Rana Nahid V Sahidul Chisti, Saptarshi Mandal
National Law School Journal
Restraint and creativity are both necessary judicial attitudes. But when should judges exercise restraint in adjudication and when, creativity? This is the question posed by the Supreme Court’s 2020 split verdict in the case of Rana Nahid v Sahidul Chisti, which required the Court to decide whether Family Courts had jurisdiction over maintenance claims under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act, 1986. By contrasting the two approaches taken by the judges to statutory interpretation in this case, the note argues that while judges should refrain from arbitrary rule making, creativity must be viewed as duty when …

Rhabdomyosarcomas (RMS) are pediatric mesenchymal-derived malignancies encompassing PAX3/7-FOXO1 Fusion Positive (FP)-RMS, and Fusion Negative (FN)-RMS with frequent RAS pathway mutations. RMS express the master myogenic transcription factor MYOD that, whilst essential for survival, cannot support differentiation. Here we discover SKP2, an oncogenic E3-ubiquitin ligase, as a critical pro-tumorigenic driver in FN-RMS. We show that SKP2 is overexpressed in RMS through the binding of MYOD to an intronic enhancer. SKP2 in FN-RMS promotes cell cycle progression and prevents differentiation by directly targeting p27Kip1 and p57Kip2, respectively. SKP2 depletion unlocks a partly MYOD-dependent myogenic transcriptional program and strongly affects stemness and tumorigenic …

This paper presents a comprehensive approach to predicting future stock prices of companies using machine learning and time series analysis. The research problem is centered around addressing the complexity and emotion-driven nature of stock investment decisions. To create an objective determinant in stock decisions, we propose a machine learning model utilizing time series data from major companies, including Amazon, Apple, Google, Nvidia, Meta, Tesla, Salesforce, Intel, and Microsoft. We explore the use of Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural networks, to capture the temporal dynamics of stock prices. These models are designed to process sequential data, maintaining short term and long …
