Smartphone Accessibility Training Protocol, Nia Monteiro Jan 2024

Smartphone Accessibility Training Protocol, Nia Monteiro

Student Research Design & Innovation Symposium

Despite an increase in smartphone device ownership, current research has shown that smartphones continue to be underutilized by individuals with disabilities because of barriers such as the inability to complete complex gestures, inexperience using accessibility features, lack of training and support, and more. Data from a survey created by the Global Accessibility Reporting Initiative (GARI), received from over 12,500 participants, identified a desire for more information on locating, activating, and using accessibility features on devices. This doctoral project's objective was to create a client-centered educational training program that teaches individuals with disabilities how to use the accessibility features on their …

Use Of Digital Literacy Programs For Older Adults, Gianna Battista

Student Research Design & Innovation Symposium

In today's generation, technology is evolving faster, forcing older adults to try and keep up with daily responsibilities without the proper education or tools. Without the help of educational programs, older adults may experience decreased confidence and limited success when using their phones or computers to complete daily tasks. Many tasks such as banking, paying bills, or medical information have now switched from paper to electronic records for easy use. Due to recent events such as the pandemic, appointments can now be completed virtually through telehealth, message providers, and medical records access via patient portals. The change in accessing health …

Student Research Design & Innovation Symposium

Purpose/Objective: Melanoma cases are rising in the United States placing increased importance on early detection. Dermoscopy can be implemented on the frontlines in the primary care setting to help increase diagnosis of suspicious lesions compared with solely visual inspection. Methods: Articles were collected from the Johnson & Wales University library database with terms including: “dermoscopy,” “primary care,” “melanoma,” and “visual inspection.” Results: Jones et al. found that with training, dermoscopy in the primary care setting can increase the diagnostic accuracy for melanoma with a reduction in unnecessary excisions and referrals. De Bedout et al. concluded that specificity and sensitivity increase …

Exercise Assessment And Prescription, Georgi-Ann Edwards

Student Research Design & Innovation Symposium

As an aspiring physical therapist, I hope to someday have the ability to help people feel better physically, mentally, and emotionally. Part of being able to make someone feel better is to observe, diagnose, and prescribe. By using intake screening and assessments from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), an anonymous client had a personalized corrective exercise program created to fit their specific needs and help them achieve their goals. The documentation forms used to analyze the individual include client intake screening, static postural assessment, transitional movement assessment, loaded movement assessment, dynamic movement assessment, mobility assessments, and a PAR-Q+. …

Accordingly, the title of this collection hints at the facts that these readings are from the original sources and that these philosophers were the originators of many of the issues we still discuss today.

Major areas of philosophy covered here are Ethics, Epistemology, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Religion, Ethics, Sociopolitical Philosophy, and finally, Aesthetics.

Agreeing To Disagree: The Problems Of The Traditional Approaches To The Interpretation Of International Law, Nahuel Maisley Jan 2024

Agreeing To Disagree: The Problems Of The Traditional Approaches To The Interpretation Of International Law, Nahuel Maisley

Fordham International Law Journal

People disagree about international law. To help them work through these disagreements, the discipline has developed a series of rules on the interpretation of its various sources—most notably, Articles 31 and 32 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties and the standards developed by the International Court of Justice and the International Law Commission for the identification of custom. The problem, however, is that these norms are themselves subject to disagreement, thereby creating a meta-debate about how to interpret the rules on interpretation. This Article delves into this meta-debate, focusing specifically on the views adopted by the “traditional …

Modelling The Operational Energy Demands And Greenhouse Gas Emissions From Non-Domestic Building Stocks Applied To A German Case Study, Julian H. Bischof Jan 2024

Modelling The Operational Energy Demands And Greenhouse Gas Emissions From Non-Domestic Building Stocks Applied To A German Case Study, Julian H. Bischof

Doctoral

This work is centred around the global shift towards a post-fossil-fuel era, driven by climate change. The research is motivated by the urgent need to facilitate this transition, specifically focusing on the non-domestic building sector, which contributes in the order of 10 % [233] of global greenhouse gas emissions. The study aims to bridge the research gap in openly available, commonly accepted, simple-to-understand, validated and/or verified models and representative data sets of non-domestic building stocks that can be used to guide policymakers towards achieving climate neutrality. The main research objective is to create a life-cycle methodology and tool for modelling …

Yiddish Intelligibility Retention Across The Jewish Diaspora: A Comparison Between Argentina And The U.S., Shannon R. Friel , '24

Senior Theses, Projects, and Awards

U.S. Ashkenazi Jews may call their grandma “bubbe” ([bʊbi]) in Yiddish, but in Argentina they usually call her “bobe” ([βoβe]). Ashkenazi Jewish immigrants brought Yiddish to the U.S. and Argentina, where the language was exposed to English and Spanish and Yiddish speakers lost touch with each other as they assimilated to different cultures far away from one another. This study attempts to answer whether English-Yiddish speakers can understand Yiddish words as produced by a Spanish-Yiddish speaker. U.S. participants completed a perception test, listening to a list of 20 words gathered from two Argentinian consultants and answering a series of questions …
