Ethnic Church Planting, Daniel Sanchez Dec 1990

Ethnic Church Planting, Daniel Sanchez

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

Undoubtedly one of the first questions which comes to mind when we think about this subject is, "Why do we need to plant ethnic churches?" Several answers can be given. Permit me to mention three reasons: (1) a clear biblical mandate; (2) an urgent demographic necessity; and (3) an encouraging pattern of receptivity.

Levinson Builds The Kingdom: Comment On "Professing Law", Thomas L. Shaffer Jan 1986

Levinson Builds The Kingdom: Comment On "Professing Law", Thomas L. Shaffer

Journal Articles

This Article takes the perspective that the professed law is an idol. As such, it is false worship, which is led by false priests, and is rationalized by false prophets. Professor Shaffer proposes that those who believe in the will of God are presented with two tasks. First, one must tear down this idol, and secondly, one must then build the Kingdom. He focuses his discussion on how one can build the Kingdom, and examines the viability of a Kingdom built upon constitutionalism, citizenship, and community.

The Concept Of Contextualization And Its Implications For The Seventh-Day Adventist Theological Education In India, Melchizedek M. Ponniah

Problem

The Seventh-day Adventist chruch in India operates in a rapidly changing pluralistic context and a predominantly Hindu culture. Response to the emerging opportunities and demands suggest the reconstruction of theological education in more contextual terms. It is imperative that the institutions and practice of ministry be shaped and evaluated in terms of the manifold functions to be performed in the varegated and highly differentiated cultures within which the Adventist church functions.

Method

This study utilized the historical and descriptive methods. Literature was reviewed to gather concepts related to the concept of contextualization and contextualization of theological education.

Theoretical Foundations Of African And Western Worldviews And Their Relationship To Christian Theologizing: An Akamba Case Study, Jones Kaleli Jun 1985

Theoretical Foundations Of African And Western Worldviews And Their Relationship To Christian Theologizing: An Akamba Case Study, Jones Kaleli

Faculty Dissertations

The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate the theoretical foundations of African and western worldviews and their relationship to Christian theologizing. The dissertation seeks to contend two propositions: (1) Christian theology results from the disciplined reflection on God's biblical revelation by the believing hermeneutical community, and (2) a disciplined hermeneutic reflection on God's Word can best be done within the context of a people's worldview. The study adopts both a diachronic and a microcosmic approach to Christian theologizing in contemporary Africa, i.e. a non-generalizing Christian theologizing method that confines itself to a specific people, their culture and worldview. Thus, …

The social, economic, political, and other contexts of texts as well as of interpreters have an important bearing upon the "meaning" of such texts. Any interpreter should be conscious of this fact and inculcate it into his pronouncements on the "meaning" of a text.

Liberation, Eschatology And Politics In Latin American Liberation Theology, H. Dennis Campbell

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

One readily observable fact about theology is its multiplicity of branches. It is a field of study that embraces a wide variety of interpretations and schools of thought. This diversity has emerged as a result of different emphases in interpretations, variety in education, sociocultural backgrounds, and differing objectives behind the formulation of theological thought. It is readily reflected at the practical level by the numerous denominations within Christendom, each possessing its own theological distinctives. Diversity also manifests~. itself at the academic level in the numerous choices of courses available to the student desirous of studying theology. It would almost appear …
