The Method Is The Message: Movement Law And The Social Change Commons, Raymond H. Brescia
The Method Is The Message: Movement Law And The Social Change Commons, Raymond H. Brescia
Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)
Legal scholars have long sought to understand the relationship between social movements and the law. A new group of such scholars has argued that to better understand this relationship, and to advance social change that is effective, sustainable, equitable, and just, they must engage in dialogue with such movements to generate ideas that will catalyze that change. For those interested in generating ideas that can spark meaningful and lasting social change, such developments in legal scholarship represent an exciting evolution in the relationship between legal scholarship, legal scholars, and social movements: a relationship that appears to be growing stronger, deeper, …
Internet Search Engines’ Privacy Violations And The Lack Of Federal Regulation To Protect Consumers Rights, Elsa M. G. Rodriguez Ogando
Internet Search Engines’ Privacy Violations And The Lack Of Federal Regulation To Protect Consumers Rights, Elsa M. G. Rodriguez Ogando
Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)
The United States’ current legal framework regarding internet search engines is disadvantageous to consumers. Federal privacy laws (although not encompassing search engines) grant businesses a strong legal basis in privacy claims and alibies for arbitrary behavior; these laws favor businesses over consumers. Moreover, state privacy laws empower nonspecific agencies to oversee privacy matters and enforce consumers’ rights. Thus, the U.S. privacy legal framework is in need of a new federal law that establishes consumers’ rights, as well as a federal agency dedicated solely to privacy matters. This Article proposes a federal law recommendation based on the standards of the California …

Examination Of Cooperative Extension As A Bridging Organization To Enhance Cross-Boundary Collaborative Water Management, Mark E. Burbach, Stephanie M. Kennedy, Weston M. Eaton, Kathryn J. Brasier, Daran R. Rudnick, Walt Whitmer
School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications
We explored stakeholders’ familiarity with, trust of, perceived competence of, and shared vision with Cooperative Extension on water-related issues in two states to determine the degree to which Extension is positioned to be an effective bridging organization. Results of surveys in Nebraska and Pennsylvania showed that, overall, neither agricultural producers nor non-farm households were very familiar with Extension. However, both stakeholder groups perceived Extension to be trustworthy, competent, and have similar goals on water-related issues. Extension should renew efforts to bolster its familiarity among these groups to enhance its effectiveness as a bridging organization.

School Counseling District Leaders' Experiences With Anti-Dei Laws And Policies: A Phenomenological Investigation, Emily Goodman-Scott, Darrell J. Sampson, Kaprea F. Johnson, Dehaven Sawyer-Mays
Counseling & Human Services Faculty Publications
School counseling district leaders (SCDLs) are instrumental in shaping district policy, supporting school counselors, and interfacing with both internal and external constituents; as such, their systemic lens is of particular importance, given the K-12 pushback on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) occurring at the state- and district-levels. As a result, we conducted a critical application of Husserl’s phenomenology to understand the collective experience of a sample of SCDLs (N = 10) working in locations with anti-DEI laws and/or policies, specifically those restricting Black, indigenous, and people of color and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning rights and topics. Through the …

How Do People Change Their Beliefs About Climate Change? A Qualitative Study On Opinion Shift In The U.S. Midwest, Emily A. Hurley, Michael S. Molloy
How Do People Change Their Beliefs About Climate Change? A Qualitative Study On Opinion Shift In The U.S. Midwest, Emily A. Hurley, Michael S. Molloy
Manuscripts, Articles, Book Chapters and Other Papers
Beliefs and attitudes about climate change are the building blocks from which humans create and support mitigation and adaptation strategies. In the United States, 72% of the public now believes that the earth is warming and 58% believe humans are the cause. Although these figures represent some increase since 2010, they also represent a significant remaining gap in acceptance of climate change realties. While a wealth of research has identified isolated factors that influence opinions on climate change, less attention has been given to understanding the process that changes people’s opinions. Our study uniquely applies qualitative methods to examine the …
Asynchronous Trials: A New Approach To High-Volume Civil Adjudication, Henry Zhuhao Wang
Asynchronous Trials: A New Approach To High-Volume Civil Adjudication, Henry Zhuhao Wang
Scholarly Publications
For thousands of years, trials were held in brick-and-mortar courthouses. Then COVID-19 ravaged the world, and many businesses and institutions, including judicial courts, went online. For the first time many people realized, accepted, and benefited from online trials held via videoconference software like Zoom. But Zoom fatigue is real. As the epidemic subsides, we must explore the next exciting growth point for judicial reforms.
Outside the courtroom, since the second half of the twentieth century, a revolution in communication methods has profoundly affected people’s daily life: we have switched from almost entirely real-time, synchronous human interactions, such as in-person meetings …

Understanding The Impact Of Language Barriers And Visit Duration On Caregiver Satisfaction In Pediatric Primary Care, Gavin Miller, Liz Vazquez, Joyce Ho, Emma Maynor, Emily L. Allen, Marley F. Fradley, Julian Ruiz, Ana J. Bridges
2025 Honors Symposium
Abstract:
Problem. Children from households that speak languages other than English (LOE) face significant challenges in accessing healthcare, which can lead to poorer health outcomes and inadequate medical care (Flores et al., 2005). Language barriers contribute to these disparities, often resulting in diminished communication between healthcare providers and families (Ramirez et al., 2023). In pediatric primary care, visit duration—defined as the amount of time between when a patient is checked into and out of the clinic—may play a crucial role in facilitating effective communication and improving patient satisfaction (Tsiga et al., 2013). Physicians experience significant time pressure and productivity expectations, …
Stroke Recovery Throughout The Continuum Of Care: A Dual Component Educational Manual, Jordyn Marie Wolff
Stroke Recovery Throughout The Continuum Of Care: A Dual Component Educational Manual, Jordyn Marie Wolff
Occupational Therapy Capstones
Introduction: One of the leading causes of death in the United States are strokes (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC, 2024]). People who have had a stroke and their caregivers go through various phases of recovery throughout the continuum of care. Therefore, providing education to the individual who had a stroke and their caregiver is a critical component through different phases of recovery. Not only is education an important component, but addressing team communication strategies are critical as well for improved quality of care and team collaboration. The goal of this capstone was to improve the educational need by …
The Role Of Occupational Therapy In Vision Rehabilitation In The Rural Outpatient Setting, Hailey Jo Mcguire
The Role Of Occupational Therapy In Vision Rehabilitation In The Rural Outpatient Setting, Hailey Jo Mcguire
Occupational Therapy Capstones
Background: Vision is a complex part of the sensory system that is often overlooked in patient care or mistaken for cognitive impairment (Aravich & Troxell, 2021). As visual disruption often comes secondary to a plethora of physical and cognitive health conditions, addressing the visual system is part of the role of occupational therapy in treating clients holistically. There is a lack of available resources to support practitioners in rural outpatient settings in working with patients who have vision-related complications. Oculomotor skills are one of the three foundational skills considering at the visual system (Warren, 1993) and has multiple subskills underlying …

A Holistic Program Manual For Permanent Supportive Housing: Integrating Housing First And Occupational Therapy Approaches, Melody Mackenzie
Occupational Therapy Capstones
Background: Individuals experiencing chronic homelessness often face complex challenges including trauma, mental health conditions, and barriers to daily living. While permanent supportive housing provides long-term housing with supportive services, gaps exist in resources tailored for both residents and residential support staff. Many existing permanent supportive housing programs emphasize behavioral or mental health approaches, with fewer addressing the full range of occupational participation needs. Occupational therapy, with its holistic and client-centered perspective, offers a valuable lens to enhance service delivery in permanent supportive housing.
Purpose: The purpose of this scholarly project was to develop two compatible tools–a Permanent Supportive Housing Residential …

Gender-Responsive Budgeting: A Step Closer To Achieving Gender Equity In Egypt?, Malak Sobhy
The Undergraduate Research Journal
This research paper aims to assess whether gender responsive budgeting (“GRB”) has been successful in improving gender equity in Egypt by using qualitative research methods, including interviews and content analysis. Firstly, the paper studies existing literature, which in turn identifies a clear gap in the assessment of such a policy tool and its impact in Egypt. Further, the paper highlights the results and findings of a comparison between two MENA region countries: Egypt and Tunisia. With Tunisia at a slightly better position in the global gender index gap, the comparison focuses on the initial steps, existing strategies, and …
Women In Orientalist Paintings: The Different Symbols Women Represented In Orientalist Paintings In The Late Nineteenth And Early Twentieth Century, Malak Ahmed
The Undergraduate Research Journal
Art is one tool that indirectly affects people’s thoughts and perceptions. Orientalist painting is a type of art that reflects some of the mistaken stereotypes the West has about Oriental societies, such as inferiority, hypersexuality, and objectification of women. Understanding the artistic symbols and elements of representation defining women’s roles in Oriental societies in such paintings is one way to take further steps towards eradicating stereotypes about Oriental women. Research to date has mainly focused on the sexual representations of women in Orientalist paintings, and no due care has been given to the different symbols that the paintings include. This …

How The Expansion Of The Egyptian Tech Sector Can Attract Foreign Investment, Mohamed Hany Eldeib
The Undergraduate Research Journal
Egypt’s growing tech sector presents a significant opportunity to attract foreign direct investment (FDI), foster economic growth, and address critical challenges such as unemployment and skill gaps. This research examines how expanding the tech sector and implementing key policy reforms can position Egypt as an attractive hub for technology and innovation. Drawing on Paul Romer’s Endogenous Growth Theory—which underscores the role of innovation, human capital, and knowledge spillovers in driving sustained economic growth—this study explores how these elements, combined with investments in infrastructure and workforce development, contribute to Egypt’s competitiveness. Comparative insights from countries such as Vietnam and India further …
If I Can’T Dance It’S Not My Revolution: Rhythms Of Resistance, Christina Zogopoulou
If I Can’T Dance It’S Not My Revolution: Rhythms Of Resistance, Christina Zogopoulou
CMC Senior Theses
This paper examines dance not as a strategic tool for persuasion or visibility, but as an inherently meaningful political practice that shapes how protest is experienced, sustained, and lived by participants. Drawing on global dance-protests, from feminist protests in India to anti-ICE protests in the United States, it demonstrates that dance emerges across conditions of celebration and mourning, safety and repression, and hope and despair.
The paper advances a conceptual framework organized around three interrelated themes: energy, body politics, and community. Grounded in interdisciplinary theory from social movement studies, dance studies, feminist and Black radical thought, and supported by qualitative …
Trait Mindfulness And Parenting Stress: Predicting Parenting Behavior In Families Of Autistic Preschoolers, Elliot Hess
Trait Mindfulness And Parenting Stress: Predicting Parenting Behavior In Families Of Autistic Preschoolers, Elliot Hess
CMC Senior Theses
Parents of autistic preschoolers often report high levels of stress that spill over into daily parenting. Mindfulness is promoted in clinical settings as a protective factor, yet its real-world role for stressed caregivers remains unclear. We used baseline data from 112 caregivers of autistic preschoolers participating in a stress-reduction clinical trial to examine whether trait mindfulness alters the link between parenting stress and parenting behavior. Parents reported on their own parenting stress, trait mindfulness, and parenting behavior as part of a broader pre-intervention assessment. Moderation effects were analyzed using hierarchical regression, with follow-up analysis of simple slopes and regions of …

Fire And Mammal Herbivory On Arthropods In The Protected Savannas: A Systematic Review, Ludzula Mukwevho, Mduduzi Ndlovu, Frank Chidawanyika
All Peer-Reviewed Publications
Protected areas in the savannas are key global reserves for biological diversity, including arthropods. Fire and mammal herbivory disrupts the diversity of biological organisms that alternately affects the functioning of the ecosystem. The study presents a global synthesis review of arthropod responses to varying intensities of fires and mammal herbivory in the protected savannas. We hypothesise that the intensity of predetermined fires and mammal herbivory has cascading impacts on abundance, species richness and diversity of terrestrial arthropods in the protected savannas. A minimum selection criteria was used to collate relevant literature from electronic databases of previous studies performed in the …

Listening, Looking, And Learning: An Exploration Of Musical Influence On The Narratives And Characters Of Call The Midwife, Mary Claire Buchanan
Listening, Looking, And Learning: An Exploration Of Musical Influence On The Narratives And Characters Of Call The Midwife, Mary Claire Buchanan
Theses and Dissertations
Call the Midwife has distinguished itself among British period dramas through its commitment to telling women’s stories with emotional depth, historical and medical accuracy, and nuanced character development. Unlike many period dramas based in the United Kingdom that center on the aristocracy, Call the Midwife connects the audience with ordinary people, particularly women, navigating life post-World War II and the early days of government healthcare by portraying their struggles, triumphs, and evolving identities. One of the most compelling ways the series achieves this is through its use of music, particularly recurring motifs that signify personal growth and transformation. This thesis …
Innovative Teaching Strategies And Lesson Plans To Support Students With Adhd, Celeste Grantham
Innovative Teaching Strategies And Lesson Plans To Support Students With Adhd, Celeste Grantham
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores how creativity, imagination, and problem-solving can be harnessed to improve student outcomes – specifically engagement, motivation, and academic achievement – for students with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in elementary classrooms. Rather than conducting a data-driven study, this project draws upon interdisciplinary research from educational psychology, cognitive science, and pedagogy to design inclusive research-informed teaching strategies. The cognitive processes underpinning creativity and imagination – such as divergent thinking, mind-wandering, and creative incubation – are examined as potential strengths often underutilized in traditional classrooms. A comprehensive literature review establishes how these variables interact and influence the learning experiences of students …
