The aim of this study is to explore United Arab Emirates (UAE) parents’ perceptions of their involvement in their kindergarten children’s English language learning as a second language (L2) and the challenges they face. The study consisted of two phases: the first investigated the role of 329 parents using a questionnaire, revealing a strong need for guidance on how to support their children’s English learning. The second phase assessed the effectiveness of a structured educational guide. Pre/post-test results showed that the guide enhanced parents’ abilities to teach English as an L2 and apply strategies aligned with their children’s learning styles.

Sixth Generation (6G) wireless networks, which are expected to be deployed in the 2030s, have already created great excitement in academia and the private sector with their extremely high communication speed and low latency rates. However, despite the ultra-low latency, high throughput, and AI-assisted orchestration capabilities they promise, they are vulnerable to stealthy and long-term Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs). Large Language Models (LLMs) stand out as an ideal candidate to fill this gap with their high success in semantic reasoning and threat intelligence. This paper presents the first systematic review and taxonomy for LLM-assisted APT detection in 6G networks. It …

The Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CAMLR Convention) was negotiated in the late 1970s in the shadow of the Soviet Union’s expanding interest in Antarctic krill fisheries. The development of a management regime for the krill fishery in the remote Southern Ocean vividly reflects geopolitical changes of the world at that time. The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) is similarly being affected by geopolitical forces from the wider international system today. This chapter therefore first reviews the historical background for the establishment of the CCAMLR. It then provides an overview of …

Dyscluded': Women's Experiences Of Mothering Autistic Children As Described In Their Stories', Juliet Hall
School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences Theses
My research, grounded in feminist research practices, uses an auto/biographical approach to explore the experiential knowledge of women mothering autistic children. It arose from a yearning for discovery. I use women’s stories to increase understanding of this experience to disrupt deeply embedded discourses and to benefit others with shared experiences.
There is a substantial body of knowledge on the experience of parent’s raising autistic children, however this tends to focus on a specific aspect of their autism journey. It is often presented in a gender-blind way. Much of it fails to acknowledge the implications of sociocultural expectations on mothers and …

With a focus on computationally intensive, distributed, and parallel workloads, scheduling in mixed-criticality distributed systems presents significant challenges due to shared memory and resources, as well as the diverse demands of tasks. The system’s efficiency is heavily dependent on the overall scheduling duration (make span), while individual task deadlines impose strict timing constraints. When the tasks need to simultaneously access the shared memory, then these tasks interfere the execution of one another. For managing the scheduling of interfering tasks in distributed mixed-criticality systems, a novel Interference-Aware Partitioning Fixed Priority (IAP-FP) approach is proposed, which effectively handles task partitioning among cores …

Feminine Felons: Violent Offenders' Intersectional Experiences In Twentieth-Century Montana, Cassidy Ann Vander Voort
Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers
This paper explores the treatment of violent female offenders in Montana in both the media and prison system from 1900-1960. Women of all races faced gender discrimination from both the carceral system and popular media. Local newspapers sensationalized crimes committed by female offenders, portraying them as women who lived outside of the expectations of womanhood in the twentieth century. Newspapers and courts placed women into two categories: “mad/sad” female offenders, who received forgiveness for their crimes; or unforgivable, “bad” offenders. Crime did not determine these categorizations; instead, gender expectations of the white middle class shaped female criminals’ treatment. If these …

More Than Just A Magic Trick? Exploring An Audience's Supernatural Attributions For Magicians' Performances, Paul J. Silvia, Sara J. Crasson, Gil Greengross, Gustav Kuhn
School of Psychology
Performing magicians have long believed that some audience members attribute their magical effects to supernatural methods—to their use of “real magic”. In two samples of adults (n = 412 and 292), we explored personality traits and broader beliefs that might predict supernatural attributions for performance magic. Supernatural attributions were uncommon—many respondents wholly rejected the possibility that magicians' magic was sometimes real—but nevertheless highly variable. In Study 1, a greater belief that magic tricks at least sometimes involve supernatural powers was associated with relatively higher extraversion, higher neuroticism, and lower openness to experience. In Study 2, random forests suggested that supernatural …

Mangrove ecosystems face significant threats from climate change and human activities. In West Benin, the invasive grass Paspalum vaginatum disrupts sedimentation and hydrology, creating anoxic conditions and nutrient imbalances. To address this, we implemented a cost-effective restoration strategy focused on hydrological repair, engaging local communities to excavate 26 artificial channels and clear 19 existing ones, restoring tidal flow to 30 ha of degraded mangrove forest. Of this, 20 ha were planted with Rhizophora racemosa propagules, while 10 ha remained unplanted due to unsuitable micro-topographic conditions. This intervention, costing $1394.3 USD per hectare, adjusted sediment levels to match natural micro-topography, enabling …

A Numerical Study Of Time-Dependent Casson Nanofluid Flow With Convection And Joule Heating Over A Stretching Surface, M Nazim Tufail, Nadia Ayub, Y Khan, S Ilyas
Babylonian Journal of Mechanical Engineering
This study focuses on the behavior of Casson nanofluid under mixed convection, Joule heating, and mass transfer effects over a stretching surface. The governing equations for the conservation of momentum, mass, energy, and species transfer are simplified using a stream function. These equations are then transformed from non-linear partial differential equations (PDEs) into non-linear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) through similarity transformations. The resulting ordinary differential equations are solved numerically using the bvp4c method. Subsequently, the influence of various physical parameters on the velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles is analyzed. It is observed that the Casson fluid parameter enhances the velocity …
