Service Providers' Descriptions Of Survivors' Experiences With Mental Health Treatment, Melanie Gonzales Puente Jun 2026

Service Providers' Descriptions Of Survivors' Experiences With Mental Health Treatment, Melanie Gonzales Puente

Theses and Dissertations

Human trafficking survivors experience significant mental health challenges and barriers that limit their engagement towards treatment. A qualitative study was conducted that included semi-structured interviews of 33 professionals working with survivors of human trafficking in the United States. Findings indicate that survivors' engagement in treatment is limited by mistrust of providers, stigma, and a lack of access to services. Providers emphasize that addressing basic needs (e.g., safety and housing) must occur before engaging in trauma-focused therapy. Positive outcomes are associated with strong therapeutic relationships, autonomy, trauma-informed, individualized care, and offering comprehensive services. Furthermore, mental health providers should have certain abilities …

From Unfinished Sentences To Unfinished Degrees: A Reflection On Students’ Struggles With Academic Writing In The Context Of Retention In Higher Institutes Of Education, Irina Ruppo Jun 2026

From Unfinished Sentences To Unfinished Degrees: A Reflection On Students’ Struggles With Academic Writing In The Context Of Retention In Higher Institutes Of Education, Irina Ruppo

Irish Journal of Academic Practice

This article explores the experiences and beliefs of students whose struggles with academic writing had led to contemplation of withdrawal from the university. It proposes that the absence of writing as a separate factor in existing retention models obscures the importance of writing issues to students’ persistence with their chosen course of study. Through a qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews with undergraduate students, the article suggests that students’ struggles with writing may be distinct from their overall difficulties with the workload. Four beliefs about academic writing are identified as potentially contributing to the students’ malintegrative experience within the institution. Seeing …

Developmental Disabilities Network Journal

State systems responsible for administering employment services and supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) must acclimate to changing demands, address new regulations, and continue to meet needs in an era of high workforce turnover and uncertain funding. While improvements have been made across the U.S., there are still far too many individuals seeking meaningful employment and contributory roles in the community who are not supported to achieve those goals. A key success factor is providing publicly funded state systems with the information needed to strategically pivot toward priorities and ensure smooth transitions of organizational change. Our country’s …

In addition, the development of green substation concepts remains limited, particularly in Indonesia where standardized approaches are not yet established. In response to the need for more sustainable power infrastructure, this study aims to identify, classify, and review all types of green technologies, practices, and innovations that …

Relay Selection And User Scheduling In Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Assisted Millimeter-Wave D2d Communication, Lakshmikanta Sau Jun 2026

Relay Selection And User Scheduling In Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Assisted Millimeter-Wave D2d Communication, Lakshmikanta Sau

Doctoral Theses

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) assisted millimeter wave (mmWave) device to device (D2D) communication has recently been proposed as a viable solution to support the overwhelming data traffic in fifth-generation (5G) and beyond wireless networks. However, due to the substantial propagation and penetration losses of mmWave, a direct line of sight (LoS) link between a pair of proximity devices is required for effective communication. Static obstacles like trees and buildings can easily obstruct the direct LoS connectivity between a device pair. In such cases, RISs help to establish an indirect LoS link between an obstructed device pair by reflecting the signals …

Existing qualitative studies highlight both benefits, such as convenience and reduced travel, and limitations, including challenges with physical assessment and sharing home monitoring data. However, less is known about how adults with type 2 diabetes determine where telehealth fits within the practical realities of routine follow-up care. Objective: To explore how adults …

Moving Inclusive Design From Theory To Practice: A Reflective Teaching Approach Using Empathy-Based Accessibility Activities, Adriana Del Monaco-Shepherd Jun 2026

Moving Inclusive Design From Theory To Practice: A Reflective Teaching Approach Using Empathy-Based Accessibility Activities, Adriana Del Monaco-Shepherd

Staff Scholarship - Australia & Dubai

This reflective teaching practice explores the use of empathy-based learning activities to support UX Design students in developing a deeper understanding of accessibility and inclusive design.

While accessibility principles and standards were introduced within the curriculum, I observed that students often understood accessibility as a set of requirements rather than a human-centred design responsibility. Their design outcomes demonstrated strong visual creativity but sometimes overlooked important accessibility considerations such as colour contrast, content hierarchy, navigation clarity, and inclusive communication.

To address this gap, I designed two short experiential activities that encouraged students to experience accessibility barriers firsthand. The first activity used …

Fast Radio Bursts From The Nonlinear Evolution Of Low Frequency Plasma Waves In The Magnetosphere Of Magnetars, Dominic Bernardi

Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are millisecond-duration radio bursts with applications as cosmic probes. However, their physical origins remain largely unknown. Magnetars are natural candidates for producing FRBs due to their compact size, extremely strong magnetic fields, and intrinsically dynamic nature. In this thesis, I develop a model for FRB production grounded in both a concrete triggering mechanism and a viable emission process. This process begins by launching low-frequency plasma waves into the magnetosphere. I show that energetic fast magnetosonic waves can naturally be produced in the magnetosphere, independent of how these waves are launched. Regardless of whether these waves are …

Self-employed platform workers are generally included throughout the instrument, while specific provisions permit protections to be adapted to different employment statuses without excluding workers outside an employment relationship. …

Natural Behavior Vs. Subjective Experience In Fish Welfare Assessments, Ronald G. Oldfield Jun 2026

Natural Behavior Vs. Subjective Experience In Fish Welfare Assessments, Ronald G. Oldfield

Animal Sentience

Several commentaries on the Oldfield & Bonano (2024) target article proposed that natural behavior should play a larger role in assessing the welfare of fishes in zoos and aquariums. However, the natural-behavior concept of animal welfare has been widely criticized because natural behaviors do not necessarily improve welfare, and unnatural behaviors do not necessarily reduce it. I review the three major concepts of animal welfare — physical health, natural behavior, and affect/feelings — and argue that behavior patterns, whether natural or otherwise, should be evaluated according to their effects on health and subjective experience. Using the affect/feelings concept and the …
