Implementation Of The Nurse-Driven Palliative Care Referral Protocol: A Quality Improvement Project, Khrystyna Lacombe
Implementation Of The Nurse-Driven Palliative Care Referral Protocol: A Quality Improvement Project, Khrystyna Lacombe
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects
Implementation of the Nurse-Driven Palliative Care Referral Protocol
Background and Purpose: Palliative care enhances quality of life, symptom management, and patient–family communication for individuals with serious illness. Despite strong evidence and national recommendations for early integration, referrals remain inconsistent and often occur late. At Advocate Sherman Hospital, only 17.9% of eligible oncology inpatients received palliative care consults. The absence of standardized referral criteria, reliance on provider discretion, and misconceptions equating palliative care with hospice contributed to delayed or missed consults. The purpose of this quality improvement (QI) project was to increase palliative care referrals by 20% within eight weeks through …

Europeanization Of Georgian Competition Law, Zurab Gvelesiani
Europeanization Of Georgian Competition Law, Zurab Gvelesiani
Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies
This case comment examines a landmark decision by the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (hereinafter, “GCCA”; “the Agency”) concerning coordinated pricing among major pharmaceutical distributors in Georgia’s state-funded oncology medication program. The GCCA found that four leading companies – Aversi Pharma, PSP, Gepha, and Mermisi – repeatedly submitted identical price offers in a closed procurement portal, in violation of Article 7 of the Georgian Law on Competition, which prohibits restrictive agreements. The agency’s findings were based on indirect economic evidence, including the statistical improbability of such pricing alignment across 88 instances, ultimately leading to fines exceeding 53 million GEL. The …
Mass Spectrometry Combined With Chemical Biology To Study Human Ailments, Eric Thomas Jacquerio Davis
Mass Spectrometry Combined With Chemical Biology To Study Human Ailments, Eric Thomas Jacquerio Davis
Wayne State University Dissertations
Post-translational modifications (PTMs) are essential as chemical changes that regulate protein function, activity, stability, interactions, and localization after protein synthesis. PTMs, such as phosphorylation, acetylation, and ubiquitination, can activate or deactivate proteins, influence their interactions with other molecules, and determine their cellular location. This regulation is vital for numerous biological processes, such as cell cycle control, signal transduction, and gene expression. Abnormal PTMs are linked to various diseases in humans, including parasitic infection, blood disorders, cancers, and neurodegenerative diseases, making their study crucial for understanding disease mechanisms and developing targeted therapies. In the Pflum lab, we are interested in the …
An Auto-Historia-Teoria Of Kismet Encounters: Building Bridges Between Multiple-Marginalized Identites - Queer, Latine, And Disabled - In A Colonial Education System, Rachel Torres
Wayne State University Dissertations
Existing education research has identified a series of factors that impact student identity formation, belonging, and academic performance in secondary and post-secondary education. Such research usually focuses on one to two identity groups - like ethnicity and gender or sexuality and disability. However, very few center on the experiences of queer, disabled, students of color. Using a decolonial methodological approach to qualitative research. This dissertation uses Chicana/Indigenous epistemologies as research methodologies to identify challenges students of multiple marginalized identities encounter in schooling and how they might find strength in their elders and cultural stories. The findings encourage educators to normalize …
Reducing Acute Care Visits In Oncology: A Pilot Quality Improvement Project, Judy Metropulos
Reducing Acute Care Visits In Oncology: A Pilot Quality Improvement Project, Judy Metropulos
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects
Abstract
Background: Patients receiving high-toxicity chemotherapy are at risk for post-infusion complications, which can result in unplanned hospital visits or admissions. Structured post-infusion follow-up may improve symptom management and reduce these events.
Local Problem: At North Region hospital, the 30-day post-infusion revisit rate was 31%, substantially exceeding the national average of 14.7%. A pilot program launched in 2021 reduced hospital visits by 7%; however, following its discontinuation due to staffing shortages and inadequate data collection, the rate subsequently increased, underscoring the need for sustainable interventions.
Methods: A quality improvement project was conducted in two, ten weeks phases. Phase 1 included …

Living Guidelines: A Giant Leap For Patient Care, Clinical Practice, And Dental Journalism, Christopher J. Smiley
Living Guidelines: A Giant Leap For Patient Care, Clinical Practice, And Dental Journalism, Christopher J. Smiley
AADEJ - The Communicator
Dr. Smiley's President's message recognizes the collaboration between the American Dental Association (ADA), the University of Pennsylvania and other stakeholders in launching the "living guideline collaboration" as a significant advancement for the profession. This initiative, focusing on oral health, will be continually updating clinical practice guidelines with new evidence, providing timely, rigorously reviewed, and reliable clinical guidance. He notes that previous ADA Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) were high-quality but many are now outdated, a point emphasized by the ADA Science & Research Institute’s External Review Committee. The Living Guideline Program, a collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental …
The Ripple Effects Of Microaggressions: Understanding Employee Responses And The Moderating Role Of Racial Representation At Work, Tyleen Lopez
Wayne State University Dissertations
Despite the advancement of research on microaggressions, their impact on employees’ emotional well-being and behavior remains unclear (Fattoracci & King, 2023). In response, I examine the associations between microaggressions, hurt feelings, and counterproductive work behaviors (i.e., withdrawal and production deviance). Additionally, I consider racial representation as a potential moderator. Drawing upon social identity theory, social categorization theory, and the Stressor-Emotion Model, I argue that microaggressions lead to hurt feelings, prompting employees to engage in counterproductive work behaviors as a coping mechanism (Tajfel & Turner, 1979; Tajfel et al., 1971; Spector & Fox, 2005). Furthermore, I argue that the positive indirect …
Centering Sisterhood: An Exploration Of Black Mothers’ Wellness Experiences Through A Group Therapy Intervention, Kimberly Stokes
Centering Sisterhood: An Exploration Of Black Mothers’ Wellness Experiences Through A Group Therapy Intervention, Kimberly Stokes
Wayne State University Dissertations
The brilliance of Black mothers has centered their community’s progression and perseverance for centuries. Yet, most of the psychological research is either absent or promotes a deficit-framing of their experiences. In the present study, I use critical qualitative methodology to center the wellness experiences of Black mothers through analyzing a group therapy intervention entitled, Invincible Black Women. I aimed to promote strength-based, holistic research and practice for Black mothers. The research questions guiding this study focused on group participants’ definitions and applications of care practices as well as the role of mothering as explained in group therapy sessions. Sessions were …

Identifying The Guilty, Protecting The Innocent: Amending The Federal Rules Of Evidence To Address Admissibility Of Eyewitness Identification, Louisa M. A. Heiny
Identifying The Guilty, Protecting The Innocent: Amending The Federal Rules Of Evidence To Address Admissibility Of Eyewitness Identification, Louisa M. A. Heiny
University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform
Mistaken eyewitness identification is among the most common factors in wrongful conviction cases. Indeed, hundreds of innocent defendants have been convicted for a crime they did not commit, their fate sealed by an eyewitness who convincingly, but mistakenly, testified, “That’s the one!”
Scientific researchers have documented the fallibility of eyewitness identification for decades. Their collective work has produced recommendations for eyewitness identification reform, focusing on procedural problems most likely to result in mistaken identification. The law in this area, however, has not kept pace with the science. Rather than representing a cohesive series of safeguards against inaccurate eyewitness identifications, federal …

The Stage.

Virtual Fixtures For Teleoperated Robots For The Visually Impaired, Vishwaak Chandran Thamaraiselvan
Computer Science and Engineering Theses - Archive
This paper presents our preliminary study on enabling individuals with visual impairments to safely operate mobile robots and vehicles. To achieve this, we developed a teleoperation with accessibility at its core. The system incorporates features that enhance usability and situational awareness, including assistive control based on artificial potential fields to prevent collisions and ensure smooth navigation. It also provides multimodal feedback through (a) haptic vibrations on the gamepad controller, which convey the proximity of nearby objects detected by the robot’s laser sensor, and (b) color-coded overlays that differentiate paths, obstacles, and people through semantic segmentation performed by a deep neural …
Event-Based Histogram Of Gradients For Lane Detection, Ganesh Gupta
Event-Based Histogram Of Gradients For Lane Detection, Ganesh Gupta
Computer Science and Engineering Theses - Archive
In the rapidly evolving landscape of autonomous driving technology, lane detection systems stand as fundamental guardians of vehicular safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration identifies unintentional lane departures as responsible for approximately one-third of all road accidents—a sobering statistic that underscores the critical importance of robust lane detection methodologies. This thesis embarks on an academic exploration at the intersection of neuromorphic engineering and computer vision, examining how the distinctive properties of event-based cameras might be harnessed to enhance lane detection capabilities under challenging environmental conditions. Unlike conventional frame-based imaging sensors that capture entire scenes at fixed intervals, event-based cameras …
