Inspiring Success: Methods And Interventions For Empowering And Motivating At-Risk Students, Rebecca Diaz
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This literature review focuses on proven techniques to motivate at-risk, reluctant learners to actively engage in their education. Specific interventions for motivating students are discussed, as well as the reasoning behind those interventions on psychological, community, and choice-driven levels. Studies demonstrated that the use of positive, trustworthy teacher-student relationships (TSRs) help create a sense of safety and security for students who have previously experienced trauma. Student choice is another intervention that creates motivation for reluctant learners, as they are able to invest in their education and can help determine their overarching academic goals. Lastly, encouraging students to build metacognitive strategies …

Emotional Health As A Preventive Measure To Reduce Abuse In Evangelical Ministries, Tammie Jean Haveman
Emotional Health As A Preventive Measure To Reduce Abuse In Evangelical Ministries, Tammie Jean Haveman
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study addressed the relationship between emotional health and abuse in Evangelical ministry contexts in the United States. A mixed-methods design explored how the emotional health of leaders contributed to organizational dynamics within ecclesiastical and nonprofit ministry settings. The theological review examined Pauline epistles, emphasizing emotion’s role in leadership and the biblical expectation that Christian leaders exhibit Spirit-led, Christlike character and emotional maturity. A conceptual heuristic was developed to interpret Pauline teachings on emotionally unhealthy dispositions such as selfishness, domineering tendencies, and irascibility. While not labeled as abuse in Paul’s context, these traits correspond to emotional patterns that often underlie …

The Danger In Designations: U.S. Terrorism Designation Lists In Gaza And Beyond, Elizabeth Beavers
The Danger In Designations: U.S. Terrorism Designation Lists In Gaza And Beyond, Elizabeth Beavers
American University National Security Law Brief
What is “terrorism”? The term has surged in U.S. political discourse following Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, Israel’s subsequent onslaught of Gaza, and escalating violence in the region involving Iran and similarly aligned groups like Hezbollah and the Houthis. U.S. politicians and thought leaders have characterized U.S. support for Israel’s bombardment as a fight against “terror,” described the violence conducted by Palestinians and their backers as “terrorism,” and accused pro-Palestinian U.S. protestors of “supporting terrorism.”
More than mere political rhetoric, “terrorism” is a term that carries big legal consequences. This is in large part because the U.S. …
Unitlessness: Highlighting The Trans-Discursive Qualities Of Nondualism And Implications For Psychological Terminology, Christian U. Krägeloh
Unitlessness: Highlighting The Trans-Discursive Qualities Of Nondualism And Implications For Psychological Terminology, Christian U. Krägeloh
International Journal of Transpersonal Studies Advance Publication Archive
Nondual awareness has recently gained increased interest in broader psychological research. In meditation contexts, it reflects the dissolution of subject and object, while in Maha_ya_na Buddhism, practitioners aim to develop insight that leads to awareness of nonduality in everyday-life situations. Traditionally, teaching of nondualism employed paradoxes to prompt nonconceptual inquiry into reconciling dualistic contradictions. To offer an approach to communicate nondualism to a modern audience of psychology researchers, the framework of unitlessness is introduced here, which differentiates between linguistic characteristics (units) and experiential phenomena (unity), both within an enveloping ineffability (unitlessness). This type of nondualism is trans-discursive, as it acknowledges …

Human Liability In Semi-Autonomous Vehicles, Omri Rachum-Twaig, Gadi Perl
Human Liability In Semi-Autonomous Vehicles, Omri Rachum-Twaig, Gadi Perl
Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal
The promise of fully autonomous vehicles has faced repeated delays, with widespread availability now projected to be limited to specific routes or geographic areas in the near future. Instead, conditional or semi-autonomous systems (SAE Level 3) are being introduced, where the vehicle can drive autonomously under limited conditions but still requires a human driver to take control when necessary. This paper examines the regulatory and liability challenges posed by these semi-autonomous vehicles. Existing laws have gaps in addressing the ambiguous responsibility of the human driver in the shared control environment of Level 3 autonomy. Factors like fatigue, lack of …

The Stages Of Change Model As Applied To Cluttering: Next Steps, Kathleen Scaler Scott, Samantha Delmar, Sarah Hardy, Emma Schaedler, Erica Scheinberg, Kateri Grice, Brenna Field, Margaret Koester, Emma Maley, Kayla Montemarano, Brooke Price
Student Research Poster Presentations 2025
This study is based upon the Transtheoretical/Stages of Change model. The model has been studied in adults with a variety of health behaviors such as addiction (Prochaska, 1999; Prochaska &DiClemente, 1984) and has been applied to current stuttering treatment (Zebrowski et al., 2021) to assess readiness for change. The Stages of Change model consists of five stages: precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance. Whenever considering making a change, as one would do as part of speech therapy, clients may move in and out of these stages. Therefore, it is important to understand what stage a client is in in order …

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
In higher education, a growing interest exists in fostering partnerships between institutions and community-based programs to enhance the lives of individuals. These initiatives have encompassed a variety of programs, including life skills development and civic engagement opportunities facilitated by academic experts. Despite the plethora of educational prospects surrounding health, community engagement, and civic improvement, assessing the efficacy of adult learning in community settings remains challenging. Previous research has indicated inadequacies of conventional prenatal education programs in addressing the complex needs of expecting mothers.
This study centered on the adult learning experiences in the Maternal Infant Health Outreach Worker (MIHOW) program, …

Killing Two Birds With One Phone: Exclusion By Technology And Attachment Within Couples’ Daily Interactions, Julianne Patrice Lawson
Killing Two Birds With One Phone: Exclusion By Technology And Attachment Within Couples’ Daily Interactions, Julianne Patrice Lawson
Selected Full-Text Dissertations 2020-
This study explored the role of attachment during covert rejection experiences. Specifically, the study examined exclusion by technology in romantic couples’ daily interactions. A partner’s retreat into their own technology device can create the experience of separation and provoke feelings of being ignored. Couples’ attachment styles were examined with daily ratings of perceived partner attention on technology (P-Tech), relationship conflict, and relationship satisfaction. Daily diary methodologies were employed in a sample of 125 cohabitating romantic couples (250 participants) over a two-week period. Multilevel modeling (MLM) revealed a significant negative within-person effect of P-Tech on daily relationship satisfaction. Relationship conflict and …
