Faculty Perceptions Of Academic Advising, Shane C. Hansen Jan 2025

Faculty Perceptions Of Academic Advising, Shane C. Hansen

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Academic advising of students by faculty is considered an important component of education at many universities in the United States. However, faculty advisors do not always have input into advisor training and methods of obtaining advising information. Guided by Boyer’s model of scholarship, the purpose of this sequential explanatory mixed-methods research was to study the lack of faculty advisor input into the faculty advising process. Research questions addressed how the university faculty advisors’ responses on the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE) Academic Advising module compared to a national sample and how faculty advisors described their perceptions of the advising …

Rapid Viral Suppression Using Integrase Inhibitors During Acute Hiv-1 Infection, Mehri S Mckellar, Jessica R Keys, Lindsey M Filiatreau, Kara S Mcgee, Joann D Kuruc, Guido Ferrari, David M Margolis, Joseph J Eron, Charles B Hicks, Cynthia L Gay

2020-Current year OA Pubs

BACKGROUND: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is recommended for all individuals with HIV infection, including those with acute HIV-1 infection (AHI). While recommendations are similar to those for chronic infection, efficacy data regarding treatment of acute HIV is limited.

METHODS: This was a single arm, 96-week study of a once-daily integrase inhibitor (INSTI)-based regimen using elvitegravir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (EVG/COBI/FTC/TDF) in AHI. Primary endpoint was proportion of participants with HIV-1 RNA <200 copies/mL and <50 copies/mL by treatment weeks 24 and 48, respectively. We also examined time to viral suppression and weight gain after treatment initiation. Outcomes and characteristics were compared with a historical AHI cohort using a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI)-based regimen with efavirenz/emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (EFV/FTC/TDF).

RESULTS: Thirty-three participants with AHI were enrolled with 31 available for analyses. Most were African American (61%) and men who have sex with men (73%). Median age was 26 (IQR 22-42). Demographics …

The Impact Of Outdoor Youth Education: An Examination Of The Social, Personal, And Environmental Developmental Outcomes Experienced By Youth At A Residential 4-H Summer Camp, Adam M. O'Malley

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

One of the most innovative ways that 4-H has fostered agricultural innovation and hands-on, experiential education has been through the development of youth outdoor education programs, more commonly known as 4-H Camp. State 4-H Camps and national camping events, including the inaugural National 4-H Conference, emerged following the establishment of localized county club camps. Three years after establishing the first 4-H Camp, more than 1,700 had emerged across the U.S., with early attendance exceeding 100,000 youth participants.

As a direct result of these early successes, the 4-H Camping movement has become celebrated as a novel technique to motivate youth to …

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the leading dementia among the elderly with complex origins. Despite extensive investigation into the AD-associated protein-coding genes, the involvement of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) and posttranscriptional modification (PTM) in AD pathogenesis remains unclear. Here, we comprehensively characterized the landscape of ncRNAs and PTM events in 1460 samples across six brain regions sourced from the Mount Sinai/JJ Peters VA Medical Center Brain Bank Study and Mayo cohorts, encompassing 33,321 long ncRNAs, 92,897 enhancer RNAs, 53,763 alternative polyadenylation events, and 900,221 A-to-I RNA editing events. We additionally identified 25,351 aberrantly expressed ncRNAs and altered PTM events associated with AD …

Evaluating The Need For Sectoral Insolvency Frameworks In India: The Telecom Sector As A Case Study, Debanshu Mukherjee Mr., Karan Gulati Mr.

National Law School Business Law Review

Ever since the enactment of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code in 2016 - a unified legislation regarding insolvency resolution - demands for sectoral insolvency frameworks have emerged without clear analytical underpinning. Undoubtedly, a downturn or crisis in a particular sector affecting companies’ ability to pay debts may necessitate evaluating the possibility of such frameworks. However, such frameworks can also result in unequal standards and principles being applied to businesses. This paper investigates the conditions under which sectoral insolvency frameworks might be necessary or appropriate. In particular, they may be required when (i) there is a large volume of insolvency processes …

The Role Of The Voluntary Carbon Market In Scaling Impact Globally - An Analysis Of Recent Trends, Varnika Chawla Ms., Divya Sethuraman Ms., Tarun Ashok Mr., Jason Kitts Mr.

National Law School Business Law Review

Interest in the Voluntary Carbon Market (‘VCM’) has grown considerably from participants ranging from private organizations to international corporations and regulatory bodies. Unprecedented anthropogenic climate change has led governments around the world towards action to limit global warming by setting net zero targets and taking steps towards carbon reduction, including through the purchase of carbon credits. In this paper, we provide a high-level overview of the different nature of carbon markets–compliance versus voluntary. After this differentiation, we focus our discussions on the VCM solely. In Part I, we set the scene and provide a background of developments across the Global North …

Measuring The Social Legitimacy Of International Investor-State Dispute Settlement: A New Research Agenda, Deborshi Barat Dr. Jan 2025

Measuring The Social Legitimacy Of International Investor-State Dispute Settlement: A New Research Agenda, Deborshi Barat Dr.

National Law School Business Law Review

The international investment law regime (IIL) has been criticised in recent times, where various stakeholders have claimed that the regime’s dispute resolution system lacks ‘legitimacy’. Simultaneously, the regime has encountered a backlash from states, interest groups, and the wider public. The convergence of these two elements has led to serious concern about the regime’s future. Since global initiatives are currently underway to ‘repair’ the legitimacy of IIL’s dispute resolution system, including under the aegis of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and pursuant to European Union (EU)-led proposals, the question of assessing such legitimacy has assumed added …

Board Decision-Making And Stakeholder Protection, Snehita Singh Dr., Irene-Marie Esser Dr., Iain Macneil Dr. Jan 2025

Board Decision-Making And Stakeholder Protection, Snehita Singh Dr., Irene-Marie Esser Dr., Iain Macneil Dr.

National Law School Business Law Review

The article deals with CSR regulation from a company law perspective. It considers mechanisms for better protection of stakeholder interests in the context of both hard and soft law, by evaluating the extant frameworks in the UK and India. The lack of proper consideration of stakeholder interests in companies’ decision-making processes emphasises the need to secure accountability for stakeholders. Unequal access to information and a lack of mechanisms for participation in board decision-making means that stakeholders do not have the same opportunity as shareholders to influence board decisions. Therefore, the principal question is how to regulate CSR to protect stakeholder …

The Lived Experience Of International Students In A Non- Academic Student Conduct Process: Implications For Best Practices, Lauren Albano, James Willette

MAGIS: Student Development Journal

This paper addresses how international students at a private, religiously- affiliated institution in the United States experienced the non-academic student conduct process. Five international students from four different countries were interviewed in this interpretive, phenomenological study. After cross-case examination, three significant themes emerged: cultural dissonance, transition, and impact on study abroad experience. This paper provides insight into the experiences of these students and discusses future implications and best practices for student affairs practitioners and student conduct officers working with international students.

Student Success And Inclusive Excellence, Jalen M. Smith Jan 2025

Student Success And Inclusive Excellence, Jalen M. Smith

MAGIS: Student Development Journal

For this analysis, student success for inclusive excellence can be defined as the summation of resources, support strategies, and initiatives that cultivate the empowerment of marginalized student populations (e.g. students of color, LGBTQ+ students, “nontraditional” students, first- generation students, and underrepresented groups) to persist until degree completion or the procurement of skills and knowledge that will advance critical thinking and self-reflection.

How Confident Are Final Year Students With The Speech And Language Interventions Utilised For The Educational And Social Development Of Children With Autism In One Mainstream School In South Devon?, Sadie Spira

Plymouth Interdisciplinary Education Open Journal

The aim of my research was to discover what speech and language intervention strategies are used in a mainstream school to assist children with autism, and how confident student teachers feel about these particular strategies. My method was to conduct semi-structured interviews with teachers from a mainstream school and online questionnaires for final year student teachers. This approach was adopted in order to position questionnaires for student teachers into a real context and compare their ideas about interventions to the strategies actually used in a school. After completing my research, a significant conclusion reached is that student teachers need more …

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

Phenolic compounds from olive mill wastewater (PCO) of Algerian origin were used to produce sodium alginate-based active films using the casting method. The effects of adding various concentrations of PCO (0%, 0.1%, and 0.2% w/v) were evaluated regarding the molecular, morphological, thermal, physicochemical, optical, barrier, biodegradability, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties of the alginate films. The FTIR and SEM results elucidated the development of a coherent cross-linked structure attributed to hydrogen bonding interactions between PCO and alginate chains. Consequently, the films exhibited enhanced crystallinity and thermal stability, as revealed by DSC analysis. Moreover, PCO addition positively influenced several film properties, including …

Widening Participation For Women In Initial Teacher Education It's Not A Problem, Is It? - What Are The Widening Participation Issues Encountered By Women As They Embark On A Primary Pgce Initial Teacher Training Course?, Kath Vineer

Plymouth Interdisciplinary Education Open Journal

This research explores widening participation in one university-led Post Graduate Primary initial teacher education course (PGCE) in England. Rooted in a social constructivist paradigm and utilising a mixed-method social survey approach (questionnaires and group discussions), the widening participation (WP) issues students faced when embarking on this course were evaluated. Students worked with me as co-constructors of data by sharing stories of their journeys towards studying for this course. Specifically, the issues affecting women were investigated in order to critique the assumption that WP for women in higher education has been achieved. I am a teacher educator with a strongly held …
