Escuchame: A Story Of Patient Resilience, Daniel Murillo Armenta, John Paul Braun

Patient Experience Journal

This article is a narrative following a patient's experience through the American Healthcare system. This article is written by a second-year medical student. During this time the individual repeatedly engaged in different specialties of medicine such as neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, emergency medicine, gynecology, and primary care. This narrative demonstrates how certain issues such as healthcare access, patient demographics, defective communication, and general mistrust of the healthcare system negatively impact patient outcomes. As an uninsured immigrant, the patient was in a disadvantaged position when her health problems first began. Due to her lack of insurance, she did not have an established …

Re-Recruitment: An Essential Aspect Of Human Experience, Thom Mayer, David Fessell, Amy Young

Patient Experience Journal

Healthcare staffing is a major issue facing leaders at all levels and is affected by turnover rates in ``The Great Resignation,'' as well as the issue of burnout, moral injury, and turnover. In seeking to deal with defining and making human experience as reality, these factors affect every level, from patient experience to workforce experience to community experience, all of which are related to not just adequate staffing and preventing turnover but doing so with our highest performing ``A Team'' members. Using the tool of re-recruitment of these high-level professionals and team members can be critical to retaining talent, while …

Leading In Turbulent Times: Why Experience Is Essential To Healthcare's Future, Jason A. Wolf

Patient Experience Journal

Healthcare systems around the world and throughout our community are being buffeted from all sides, with higher acuity patients, a vulnerable and stressed workforce, unsure finances and support structures, and even challenges to long-held medical truths. For as much as we traversed a once in a lifetime moment through the pandemic years, the residual effects and social and political sways that followed have woven their ways into healthcare overall. There is great uncertainty. There are rapidly emerging innovations. There are greater tensions in our society which show up in behaviors that impact how we provide care. These issues and more …

Asthma Exacerbation In Pregnancy And The Effects On The Fetus, Jaclyn Vanberkum, Daisy Ramirez, Julia Gonazlez, Haneen Kittaneh

RESP 1102 Intermediate Respiratory Care

Asthma is one of the most common chronic conditions affecting pregnant women and poses notable risks to both maternal and fetal health. Inadequate asthma control during pregnancy is associated with increased complications such as preeclampsia, preterm delivery and low birth weight. As a result, effective asthma management is essential throughout gestation. This paper explores the physiological changes in pregnancy that influence asthma, the potential consequences of uncontrolled symptoms and evidence-based treatment approaches. Current clinical guidelines emphasize the importance of inhaled corticosteroids and bronchodilators while minimizing systemic steroid use. Patient education, regular monitoring and a multidisciplinary approach are key to optimizing …

A Comprehensive Review On Intrusion Detection In Internet Of Things (Iot) And Industrial Internet Of Things (Iiot) Systems, Umar Ibrahim, Mutasem Jarrah

Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Computing and Information Technology Sciences

As computer networks and technologies become increasingly embedded in our daily lives, there is growing concern about detecting intrusions and cyberattacks. It’s still difficult to detect intrusions in computer networks effectively. This is due to the recent trend of cyber attackers posing as intrusion detection systems (IDS) by altering packet contents. Additionally, a large number of new devices are added to computer networks daily. Security concerns in computer networks are also being brought up by these new devices. In the context of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the industrial Internet of things (IIoT), this study aims to present an …

“Virtual Reality And Creativity: Evaluating Immersive Painting Experiences And Art-Based Mindfulness” Presented By Heli Puhakka, Heli Puhakka Apr 2025

“Virtual Reality And Creativity: Evaluating Immersive Painting Experiences And Art-Based Mindfulness” Presented By Heli Puhakka, Heli Puhakka

Staff Scholarship - Australia & Dubai

New affordable head-mounted displays and interactive virtual technologies provide opportunities for researchers and practitioners to create and experience mindfulness. The use of virtual reality for art-based mindfulness practices is novel and promotes full-body, immersive experiences to improve mood, however, researchers and practitioners have a limited understanding of mindfulness and creativity in the virtual environment. This paper identifies the research gap by examining how active art-based mindfulness practices in virtual reality promote mindfulness, compared to passive methods such as viewing a virtual image to experience relaxation. Fourteen participants were interviewed in the qualitative ethnographic study. Methods included semi-structured interviews, direct observation, …

Verlan: Resistance To French Linguistic Standards By Maghrebi Communities, Phaedra Dunnigan Apr 2025

Verlan: Resistance To French Linguistic Standards By Maghrebi Communities, Phaedra Dunnigan

Honors Theses

From the moment language is acquired, it comes with implicit rules that structure communication and establish social expectations. “Proper” speech is linked to compliance and is often used to assess a person’s intelligence, identity, and social status. For this reason, language moves beyond communication and is used for deeper associative meanings that can group, judge, silence, and empower individuals.

Therefore, those who diverge from linguistic norms, whether by choice, necessity, or exclusion, often face significant social consequences. Language becomes an indicator of social conformity, while deviation can be a form of resistance. This resistance is particularly common among marginalized communities …

Assessing The Behavioral Impact Of Pyridostigmine Bromide In Rats, Noah A. Martin Apr 2025

Assessing The Behavioral Impact Of Pyridostigmine Bromide In Rats, Noah A. Martin

Honors Theses

Pyridostigmine bromide (PB) is an organophosphate (OP) nerve agent prophylactic used to protect warfighters against chemical warfare agents. OPs inhibit the neural enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in the brain. This leads to the buildup of acetylcholine, causing respiratory failure, seizures, and death. PB functions by inhibiting ~30% of peripheral AChE temporarily, protecting the enzymes so that the body is able to restore sufficient cholinergic function post-exposure. PB does not cross the blood-brain barrier, though it may still indirectly affect toxicity in the brain due to repeated AChE inhibition throughout treatment, or by inhibition of non-target ChE’s in the blood. The aim …

Effective Strategies For Improving Inventory Management In High-Growth Companies, Abhishek Sharma Apr 2025

Effective Strategies For Improving Inventory Management In High-Growth Companies, Abhishek Sharma

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Inefficient inventory management is a leading cause of lost revenue, operational disruptions, and customer dissatisfaction in high-growth industries. Business leaders of small and medium-sized enterprises face these challenges as rapid scaling makes accurate demand forecasting difficult, leading to overstocking, stockouts, and supply chain inefficiencies. In this qualitative case study, the strategies that leaders of a small- to medium-sized business used to enhance operational efficiency, workforce engagement, and sustainability practices were explored. The Baldrige excellence framework and stakeholder theory served as the conceptual foundation for the study. Semistructured interviews were conducted with six business leaders in the sporting goods industry in …
