Modern Peace Keeping In Africa: Lessons From Nigeria, Solomon Hailu
Modern Peace Keeping In Africa: Lessons From Nigeria, Solomon Hailu
Journal of African Policy Studies
Different approaches to conflict resolution and peacekeeping in African failed states have taken the centre stage of this analysis. These approaches are based not merely on theory or doctrine but on the self-perceived interests of the stakeholders in peacekeeping inside Africa. The Western powers have repeatedly expressed the view that they will not commit their armed forces to resolve African conflicts. The West’s desire to place responsibility on African states, rather than sharing it, will not bring peace in Africa. The reason is that Africans are not ready to shoulder such heavy responsibility without direct Western military involvement in African …
The Influence Of (Post-) Colonial Language Policies On Local Languages In Cameroon: An Acquisition Planning Perspective, Alain Flaubert Takam
The Influence Of (Post-) Colonial Language Policies On Local Languages In Cameroon: An Acquisition Planning Perspective, Alain Flaubert Takam
Journal of African Policy Studies
This paper examines language policy and planning in favour of minority languages during the colonial era and immediately after. It is based on the observation that local languages in Cameroon do not seem to have the ethnolinguistic vitality necessary for their long-term survival. The situation of these languages begs the following question: Did the promotion strategies of national languages in colonial Cameroon pave the way for language attrition that is observable today or is it the language policy choice of the political authorities in independent Cameroon that has caused this language issue? This paper, which falls within the general framework …

Big Data As Potential Tool For Success In Developing Countries, Jean-Claude Pedjeu, Aurore J. Kamssu, Jeffrey S. Siepke-Sambo
Journal of African Policy Studies
Big data and the computer technology to analyze it are said to be one of the top 10 revolutions in the coming decade. While the developed world is making strides in the use of big data for decision making purposes, the Low-income countries (LIC) or poor countries and some medium-income countries (MIC) or developing countries are lacking behind in their collection and use of digital data to aid decision making. This is especially the case with many businesses and government agencies that have the potential to benefit in their policy designs and implementations from big data. The purpose of this …

Accounting For The Decline Of Service Delivery In Urban Local Authorities: A Survey Of Zimbabwean Cities And Towns, Wenceslaus Mudyanadzo, Makomborero Y. Nzwatu
Journal of African Policy Studies
This paper presents a review of several factors which account for the decline of service delivery in urban local authorities within Zimbabwe. The study utilised desk research methodology to explore and analyse relevant data which was in government legislation, ministerial statements, public and private media articles, books and journals to come up with the totality of the environment relating directly or indirectly to the decline of service delivery in local authorities (LAs). The evidence cited is based on findings from identified urban local authorities which include Harare, Chitungwiza, Gweru, Mutare, Masvingo and Bulawayo City Councils. Themes surrounding the interference in …

Reinventing E-Governance Policy In Local Governments In Southern Nigeria, Robert A. Dibie, Maryam O. Quadri
Journal of African Policy Studies
This paper examines the extent to which electronic governance policy has contributed to more efficient service delivery in local governments in southern Nigeria. It also explores how e-governance practices has improved the relationship between citizens and local governments in southern Nigeria. It argues that despite the appropriation of funds for the purchase of computers and other electronic equipment in many local governments in the past three decades, the delivery of services in almost all the local governments under study has not improved. The paper uses data derived from questionnaire survey administered to local government staff in southern Nigeria. Two thousand …

Event Planners And Plants: Creating A Blooming Experience, Rebekah E T Rowland, Mary S. Olle
ICHRIE Research Reports
This research examines how event planners and horticulturists can collaborate to enhance guest experiences through events hosted at arboretums and public gardens. The meeting and event industry offers diverse opportunities, aiming to create memorable, engaging experiences that encourage return visits. Unique venues such as botanical gardens blend natural beauty, education, and community engagement, elements that traditional spaces often lack. Horticulture, rooted in the art, science, and business of plants, benefits from partnerships with event planners who bring expertise in design and guest experience. Based on existing literature, this study explores how thoughtful event design featuring sustainable floral arrangements and nature …

Who’S The Real Victim? Marriott’S Victimization And Customers’ Perception Of It - Marriott Data Breach Crisis In 2018, Jae Eun Park, Alyssa Lynn Reed, Alei Fan
ICHRIE Research Reports
This study examines the Marriott data breach crisis of 2018, analyzing Marriott's crisis communication through the lens of Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT). It explores how Marriott framed and responded to the crisis and assesses public perception of these actions. Marriott's official statements were analyzed to determine if there was a match between the company's crisis response strategies and public comments from online news articles were analyzed to explore how the public actually perceived the crisis. The findings indicate that while Marriott employed rebuilding and diminishing strategies to position the crisis in a victim cluster, the public largely saw the …

Holding Up A Mirror To Hostile Gender Legislation: The Impact Of Drag Bans On The Theater Industry, Claire B. Epstein
Holding Up A Mirror To Hostile Gender Legislation: The Impact Of Drag Bans On The Theater Industry, Claire B. Epstein
Pace Law Review
States, particularly infringing upon the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. Certain states have sought to introduce “drag ban” laws under the guise of protecting children from viewing obscene content. These laws, in effect, are harmful to people, children especially, and have a chilling effect on expression, leaving critical harm in their wake. Laws such as these cast a wide net of regulation, opening up otherwise innocent citizens to criminal and civil liability. The theater industry is particularly affected by these regulations, even if lawmakers do not acknowledge this potential harm. This article will focus on three laws seeking to regulate …
Law Schools As Anti-Dialogic Spaces, Jennifer M. Cooper
Law Schools As Anti-Dialogic Spaces, Jennifer M. Cooper
Pace Law Review
Talk is learning’s secret weapon. Yet, talk is chronically undervalued as a learning tool. Dialogic talk, a rigorous, student-centered discursive approach, extends classroom dialogue beyond information exchange to stimulate critical thinking. Talk bolsters thought, generates ideas, expands knowledge, and crystalizes concepts to solidify understanding. Talk powers classroom dialogue through questions, discussion, argument, and interthinking, facilitating the exchange of ideas and information leading to deep learning.
Law school classrooms are paradoxically immersed in talk yet simultaneously anti-dialogic spaces. Despite the Socratic method’s reliance on dialogue, talk in law school is teacher-controlled and interrogative, muting student voices through hierarchical power dynamics.

The New 92? Lawful Orders, The Obedience Paradigm, And The Military As A Forum For Experimental Change In The Aftermath Of Trump V. United States, Kyra Ziesk-Socolov
Pace Law Review
Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice criminalizes defiance of lawful orders issued by superior military and civilian officials in a service member’s chain of command, while Rule for Court-Martial (R.C.M.) 916(d) provides procedural guidance for the assertion that a service member was acting pursuant to lawful orders as a criminal defense. These provisions are integral to maintaining good order and discipline within the military ranks and ensuring consistent and reliable implementation of operational and policy initiatives across the Department of Defense. The duty to obey lawful orders is closely circumscribed in the context of the military chain …

Preparation For Spiritual Leadership From A Biblical Worldview Through Mentoring At Southern Adventist University, Joseph Khabbaz
Preparation For Spiritual Leadership From A Biblical Worldview Through Mentoring At Southern Adventist University, Joseph Khabbaz
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
This paper explores the theological and educational foundations for cultivating spiritual leadership through mentorship within the context of a Christian university, with a focus on Southern Adventist University. Anchored in a biblical worldview, the study examines how holistic student transformation—integrating behavior, beliefs, and worldview—can be fostered through intentional mentoring relationships that respond to students’ core questions of identity, belonging, and purpose (IBP). The paper articulates a framework of biblical transformation that extends beyond cognitive development to character formation rooted in Christlikeness. The author presents the Transformational Conversations Framework, a mentoring tool that guides faculty and staff in engaging students …
Vocational Calling In The Parable Of The Talents, W. Rick Norskov M.D.
Vocational Calling In The Parable Of The Talents, W. Rick Norskov M.D.
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
The concept of vocational calling is illustrated in the parable of the talents. The servants used their given abilities and thus became ambassadors for the Master. The effectiveness of a college or university to connect calling with vocation is rooted in their mission or past history and in their institutional vocation or future. It is also influenced by the vocabulary of calling on campus that changes over time. A few recent ways of how Southern Adventist University is teaching this purposeful exploration of vocation are noted. Southern Adventist University’s future lies in faculty and staff’s commitment to live their calling …
Genetic Algorithms From A Biblical Perspective, Richard L. Halterman Phd
Genetic Algorithms From A Biblical Perspective, Richard L. Halterman Phd
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
The dominant opinion expressed by the scientific community is that life on earth as we observe it today evolved over millions of years from more primitive organisms. Its adherents insist that naturalist forces drive this process, and it is unaided by any form of intelligent oversight. In contrast, a biblical worldview upholds the Bible’s account of a six-day special creation by an all-powerful Creator. The competition between these two worldviews appears unresolvable. Complete resolution would require time travel to absolutely certify the winner. Indirect evidence can sway opinions, but individuals do not always apply sound logical reasoning when forming their …
Fulfilling Purpose, Calling, And Commissioning Through Boundary Spanning, Stephanie Sheehan Phd
Fulfilling Purpose, Calling, And Commissioning Through Boundary Spanning, Stephanie Sheehan Phd
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
Increased efforts to normalize calling within diverse professions have been successful at generating more mainstream acceptance of its premises and purpose, especially in the context of career. Though recognition that calling extends to vocations other than ministers and missionaries bring wider acceptance of the construct, it is often misconstrued as one’s best temporal job fit, rather than a divine purpose through which God intends to accomplish His purposes. From the very acts of creation, God demonstrates that it is only through Him that divine purposes are accomplished. Only God spans the boundary between emptiness and fulness, sinfulness and holiness, humanity …
Biblical Themes In Spanish Instruction, Adrienne J. Royo
Biblical Themes In Spanish Instruction, Adrienne J. Royo
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
This paper seeks to answer the question, when teaching Spanish, does one have to be in a certain venue to be able to share God and the Bible? Through exploration of legends, myths, traditions, Spanish proverbs, and names of geographical locations, as well as personal experiences, the question is answered, elucidating the fact that the sharing of God’s Word is not dependent upon the venue, it is centered in a sense of intentionality in seeking opportunities appropriate to the setting and the occasion. In a spiritual and physical sense, Psalm 19:1 (KJV) defines the world around us when David declares: …

Jesus’ Model Of Teaching With Relationship-Rich Techniques To Establish A Biblical Worldview, Cynthia Gettys Ph.D., Robert Overstreet Ph.D, Polina Kadatska
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
The classroom, whether physical or virtual, is the primary point of contact between faculty-student and student-student. It is the single most important venue for students to experience the learning environment, build webs of relationships, and ask questions of meaning and purpose. One of the most important things faculty and staff can do is help university students build a diverse social network and develop a biblical worldview while they are at the university. An individual’s worldview affects all aspects of life, especially decisions related to professions and vocations. This paper emphasizes how to teach as Jesus did by including examples of …
The Business Of Business: A Biblical Approach To The Purpose Of The Firm, Abraham Johannes Oberholster
The Business Of Business: A Biblical Approach To The Purpose Of The Firm, Abraham Johannes Oberholster
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
The debate on the purpose of the business corporation has been raging for more than a century. Inspired by capitalistic thinking, economists, corporate managers and investors have mostly maintained that the predominant goal for corporations is to maximize shareholder wealth. In contrast, society has argued that the corporation also has a social responsibility as a legal entity and community member.
The legal precedent set in 1919 with Dodge v. Ford Motor Co. is that “a business corporation is organized and carried on primarily for the profit of the stockholders”. The oft quoted argument of Milton Friedman (1970) that the social …
A Relational God And Why Worldview Self-Examination Is A Crucial Component Of Christian Education, David R. Nelsen Ph.D
A Relational God And Why Worldview Self-Examination Is A Crucial Component Of Christian Education, David R. Nelsen Ph.D
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
Christian education seeks to transform the lives of its students, preparing them to serve both in their present life and in the life to come. At the center of this process are the students and how they currently think, act, and make sense of the world around them i.e., their worldview. Thus, preparing students for service both here and in the hereafter requires that students become aware of and take control of their worldview systematically and deliberately. Ultimately, this facilitates their ability to form a lasting and transformative relationship with God. Here I present a biblical foundation for why students …
The Communication And Public Speaking Course And Biblical Foundations – Interpersonal Encounters With The Creator, Victoria Joiner Edd
The Communication And Public Speaking Course And Biblical Foundations – Interpersonal Encounters With The Creator, Victoria Joiner Edd
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
Teaching COMM 135 Communication and Public Speaking from a biblical worldview is critical to the Southern University student body. This paper discusses various strategies to provide a biblical foundation in the course that has secular humanistic thought and philosophies at its core. This worldview is a seamless, often unconscious stream of biblical inclusion throughout the semester. Successfully integrating the basic biblical foundation principle of God’s interpersonal communication with humanity within Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for the course is not only possible but essential within the biblical foundation paradigm. Wood’s (2016) eight axioms/principles of Interpersonal Communication provide a foundation upon which …

Engineering Hiv-1 Env Protein To Elucidate In Situ Structural Dynamics Of Env, Narendra Kumar Gonepudi
Engineering Hiv-1 Env Protein To Elucidate In Situ Structural Dynamics Of Env, Narendra Kumar Gonepudi
Biotechnology Theses
The HIV-1 Envelope (Env) glycoprotein trimers undergo structural changes upon interacting with host receptor CD4 and coreceptors (CCR5/CXCR4) for virus entry. As the only surface-exposed viral protein, Env is a key antibody target but evades recognition through structural changes. Studying Env dynamics with respect to the coreceptor binding region (V3 loop) provides insights into virus entry and immune evasion. Fluorescence labeling via genetic code expansion (amber–TAG suppression) offers a minimally invasive approach for fluorescence microscope-based Env dynamics studies. Here, two V3-related dual-amber Env constructs (A135TAG-P308TAG, P308TAG-E395TAG) were generated by incorporating two non-canonical …
