Reliability And Spatial Consistency Of Mr Diffusion Tensor Imaging Measures Along The Cerebral Perivascular Space, Enchao Qiu, Joga Chaganti, Phillip Phan, M. Alizadeh, Devon Middleton, Kiran Talekar, Prabath Mondel, Scott H. Faro, Feroze Mohamed, Hsiangkuo Yuan

Department of Radiology Faculty Papers

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Diffusion tensor imaging analysis along the perivascular space (DTI-ALPS) has emerged as a promising noninvasive method for evaluating water motion that may reflect glymphatic system function. However, the reliability of DTI-ALPS measurements across different region-of-interest (ROI) selection methods remains underinvestigated. This study aimed to assess the interrater reliability among three neuroradiologists in native space and compare DTI-ALPS indices derived from ROIs placed in subjects' native space versus standardized Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) space.

METHODS: DTI-ALPS indices from 16 healthy subjects were calculated from both left and right hemispheres using two ROI placement approaches: (1) native space ROIs …

Self-Colonization In American Law: The Internet And Personal Information Example, Daniel J.H. Greenwood Sep 2025

Self-Colonization In American Law: The Internet And Personal Information Example, Daniel J.H. Greenwood

Hofstra Law Faculty Scholarship

Since the Reagan era, American economic policy has amounted to self-colonization. Democratic majorities have consistently supported legal regimes that have enabled corporations to extract the lion’s share of the gains from trade from the public. For example, they have supported a corporate law regime that denies the public democratic control over the behavior of corporations and instead gives dictatorial powers to shareholders and managers. The Internet has made it even easier for firms to extract surpluses from consumers through surveillance and algorithmic pricing. One small contribution toward a project of decolonizing the public would be for consumers to obtain a …

An Evaluation Of The Relationship Between Beef Cattle Grazing Activity Traits And Conception Methods During The Breeding Season, Jason Dubowsky Sep 2025

An Evaluation Of The Relationship Between Beef Cattle Grazing Activity Traits And Conception Methods During The Breeding Season, Jason Dubowsky

Master's Theses

Efficient use of native rangelands and improved reproductive success are primary objectives in beef cattle production. Grazing behavior during the breeding season may be influenced by pasture characteristics, including size and water availability, as well as physiological differences due to reproductive status. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between grazing activity and conception method in crossbred Angus cows over a 2-year period. The study was conducted during the winter months (December – February) on the Central Coast of California with a mean temperate of 53 degrees Fahrenheit. Cows (n = 76) were blocked by age and then randomly assigned …

Scientific Multimodal Summarization : Integrating Knowledge Across Textual, Visual And Auditory Content, Zusheng Tan

Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)

As scientific publications increasingly incorporate multimodal content, ranging from textual descriptions to figures, tables, presentation videos, and audio, there is a growing need for summarization systems that can effectively process and integrate information across these diverse modalities.

This work presents a comprehensive exploration of Scientific Multimodal Summarization, introducing a series of novel architectures and datasets aimed at advancing this emerging field. 1): We begin by introducing CMT-Sum, which integrates multimodal scientific source content (i.e., primarily paper text and figures) to generate high-quality textual summaries and identify representative graphical abstracts. We refer to this task as Scientific Multimodal Summarization with …

Machine Learning-Based Electric Vehicle Charging Demand Forecasting: A Systematized Literature Review, Maher Alaraj, Mohammed Radi, Elaf Alsisi, Munir Majdalawieh, Mohamed Darwish

All Works

The transport sector significantly contributes to global greenhouse gas emissions, making electromobility crucial in the race toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In recent years, the increasing competition among manufacturers, the development of cheaper batteries, the ongoing policy support, and people’s greater environmental awareness have consistently increased electric vehicles (EVs) adoption. Nevertheless, EVs charging needs—highly influenced by EV drivers’ behavior uncertainty—challenge their integration into the power grid on a massive scale, leading to potential issues, such as overloading and grid instability. Smart charging strategies can mitigate these adverse effects by using information and communication technologies to optimize EV charging …

The Effects Of Early Life Rearing Experiences And Age On Sociality In Captive Olive Baboons (Papio Anubis), Angela M. Achorn, Michele M. Mulholland, Chet C. Sherwood, Soojin V. Yi, William D. Hopkins

Anthropology Faculty Publications

Social connections within primate groups are continuously changing, and an individual's connectedness within their social network can have important consequences on morbidity and mortality. Here, we examined the effects of early life social experiences and age on social connectedness of captive female olive baboons (Papio anubis). Subjects included 54 mother-reared (MR) and 35 nursery-reared (NR) baboons (4.03 to 19.8 years of age). We conducted four 15-min focal observations and recorded all social interactions. For every possible dyad, we calculated total amount of time in proximity to one another and total amount of time spent grooming (in each direction), then used …

Examining Nurses’ Perspectives Of Organizational Strategies Designed To Enhance Job Satisfaction, Kerine J. Moodie-Brown

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Nurse job satisfaction remains a critical issue in healthcare, as it directly impacts patient care quality, nurse retention, and organizational performance. Despite numerous organizational efforts, there is limited qualitative insight into how nurses perceive strategies aimed at improving their satisfaction. The purpose of my study, guided by Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, was to explore nurses’ perceptions of organizational strategies designed to enhance job satisfaction, with a particular focus on interventions such as pay incentives, workplace safety, career development opportunities, nurse residency programs, and initiatives promoting well-being. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 RNs having at least 1 year of …

Exploring The Contextual Antecedents Of Nonfamilial Aggression In Women Arrested For Aggressive Behavior, Tatiana Pouncy Sep 2025

Exploring The Contextual Antecedents Of Nonfamilial Aggression In Women Arrested For Aggressive Behavior, Tatiana Pouncy

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The prevalence of physical aggression among women has increased, challenging traditional gender norms that portray women as nurturing and nonviolent. While most research on aggression has focused on men, children, or intimate partner violence, research is sparse concerning female aggression outside familial contexts. In this qualitative multiple-case study, the contextual antecedents of nonfamilial aggression in women arrested for aggressive behavior were explored using the general aggression model as the theoretical framework. Data were obtained from 20 publicly documented cases using archival sources such as media stories, court documents, and video recordings. According to thematic and document analysis, aggressive behavior was …

Background

Infantile epileptic spasms syndrome (IESS) is a devastating developmental epileptic encephalopathy (DEE) and patients exhibit diffuse white matter alterations and structural remodeling. However, the correlation between these structural changes and brain network properties, or their effect on the efficacy of treatment outcomes in MRI non-lesional IESS patients is not clear.

Method

This retrospective study was conducted on IESS patients using fixel-based analysis (FBA) of diffusion MRI and graph theory analysis of structural connectivity, involving 26 non-lesional IESS patients aged 2 to 12 months and 120 age-matched controls. We further examined the differences between antiseizure medication (ASM) responders and non-responders …

Staff Matters: Can I Google Someone Before I Decide To Hire Them?, Jodi Schafer Sphr, Shrm-Scp

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

This Q&A addresses the practice of using Google searches to vet job applicants, cautioning that while it provides public information, it can also inadvertently reveal protected classifications (e.g., religious beliefs, race, age), making hiring decisions based on such information illegal and discriminatory. The article advises conducting internet searches after a screening interview to first establish a candidate's qualifications, which provides a defensible rationale for hiring choices. It is crucial to obtain a signed release from the applicant before conducting any background checks to ensure compliance with laws like the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The author also notes that requiring access …

Dental Shame: A Call For Understanding And Addressing The Role Of Shame In Oral Health, Louise Folker, Luna Dolezal, Astrid Pernille Jespersen, Martha Paisi, Lyndsey Withers, Christina Worle, Esben Boeskov Øzhayat

Peninsula Medical School

This commentary highlights dental shame as a pervasive but underexplored phenomenon with significant implications for oral health and systemic inequities. It proposes dental shame as a critical lens for understanding and addressing the complex interplay between personal, social, economic, cultural and systemic factors contributing to oral health challenges. Drawing on interdisciplinary expertise, the authors collectively propose that dental shame is both a consequence and determinant of oral health issues, leading to a self-reinforcing dynamic of avoidance, withdrawal and exacerbated inequities. They identify five key aspects of oral health where dental shame warrants deeper investigation: clinical encounters, care and social services, …

Most-Favored-Nation's False Promises, George A. Bermann Sep 2025

Most-Favored-Nation's False Promises, George A. Bermann

Faculty Scholarship

Most-favoured-nation (MFN) protection seems decidedly straightforward both in meaning and operation, certainly as compared to other investment protections, such as fair and equitable treatment, which are plagued with indeterminacy. But the clarity of meaning and ease of application of MFN clauses are largely illusory. An examination of arbitral case law reveals seriously underestimated uncertainties surrounding the doctrine’s scope and workings. But the problems with MFN run far deeper. MFN may have the virtue of enhancing the level of protection of foreign investments. But States do not only extend benefits; they also withhold them. MFN disrespects the balance that States sought …

Advancing Social Sustainability In Operations And Supply Chain Management: A Multi-Theoretical Exploration Of Technology, Task Familiarity, And Sustainability Interactions, Satabdi Hazarika

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Social sustainability in operations and supply chain management (OSCM) centers on generating economic value through practices that safeguard people, communities, and broader societal systems impacted by the supply chain. While the importance of such practices is increasingly recognized, firms face persistent challenges in embedding social sustainability into formal management systems. This dissertation tackles three such challenges, with a particular focus on safety in trucking—a vital yet underexamined aspect from the lens of social sustainability. Safety performance in this context is influenced by the complexities of using advanced safety technologies, the demanding and solitary nature of truck driving, and the temporal …
