Introduction One in six stroke survivors continue to experience arm and language disability at 3 months post-stroke. This study aims to identify which model(s) of integrated UPper limb and Language Impairment and Functional Training (UPLIFT) show promise for people 3 months to 24 months post-stroke. We hypothesise that at least one promising UPLIFT model of rehabilitation will be identified. Methods and analysis This is an adaptive Phase IIa master protocol umbrella design that includes four simultaneous Bayesian Optimal Phase II studies to evaluate individual UPLIFT interventions against prespecified objective performance criteria. The intervention is upper limb and language training at …

Common Enforcement Manual For Heritage Crime At Sea: None, Jason Lowther, Michael Williams, Beccy Austin Sep 2025

Common Enforcement Manual For Heritage Crime At Sea: None, Jason Lowther, Michael Williams, Beccy Austin

School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences

This report summarises the results of a project to produce a Common Enforcement Manual (CEM) for Heritage Crime at Sea. The CEM provides easy access to the substance of the regulatory framework in England and bespoke operational protocol for observation, investigation, and interdiction (if permissible) and communication with relevant organisations. This will enable improved interagency collaboration to enhance the protection of underwater cultural heritage at a marginal cost, thereby generating sustainable added value for government in protecting a valuable and threatened national resource.

Structural Basis For Mtorc1 Activation On The Lysosomal Membrane, Zhicheng Cui, Alessandra Esposito, Gennaro Napolitano, Andrea Ballabio, James H Hurley Sep 2025

Structural Basis For Mtorc1 Activation On The Lysosomal Membrane, Zhicheng Cui, Alessandra Esposito, Gennaro Napolitano, Andrea Ballabio, James H Hurley

Duncan NRI Faculty and Staff Publications

The mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) integrates growth factor (GF) and nutrient signals to stimulate anabolic processes connected to cell growth and inhibit catabolic processes such as autophagy1,2. GF signalling through the tuberous sclerosis complex regulates the lysosomally localized small GTPase RAS homologue enriched in brain (RHEB)3. Direct binding of RHEB-GTP to the mTOR kinase subunit of mTORC1 allosterically activates the kinase by inducing a large-scale conformational change4. Here we reconstituted mTORC1 activation on membranes by RHEB, RAGs and Ragulator. Cryo-electron microscopy showed that RAPTOR and mTOR interact directly with the membrane. Full engagement of the membrane anchors …

More than 20 genes expressed in the male reproductive tract have been identified as essential factors for sperm migration to and through the utero-tubal junction (UTJ), and they are divided into ADAM3-dependent and ADAM3-independent pathways. In parallel, sperm having UTJ migration defects also show impaired binding to the zona pellucida (ZP). Herein, we demonstrate that knockout of Galntl5, encoding a sperm surface protein, causes impaired sperm binding with the UTJ and ZP, and null males have severe infertility. GALNTL5 appreciably disappears in sperm lacking Adam3 or Lypd4, required for ADAM3-dependent and ADAM3-independent pathways, and GALNTL5 binds to N …

Evaluating And Optimizing Just-In-Time Adaptive Interventions In A Digital Mental Health Intervention (Wysa For Chronic Pain) For Middle-Aged And Older Adults With Chronic Pain: Protocol For A Series Of Randomized Trials, Abby L Cheng, Joanna Abraham, Sarah M Hartz, Eric B Laber, J Philip Miller Sep 2025

Evaluating And Optimizing Just-In-Time Adaptive Interventions In A Digital Mental Health Intervention (Wysa For Chronic Pain) For Middle-Aged And Older Adults With Chronic Pain: Protocol For A Series Of Randomized Trials, Abby L Cheng, Joanna Abraham, Sarah M Hartz, Eric B Laber, J Philip Miller

2020-Current year OA Pubs

BACKGROUND: On a population level, digital mental health interventions effectively reduce depression and anxiety symptoms. However, middle-aged and older adults with chronic pain and coexisting depression or anxiety have not been adequately represented in digital mental health studies.

OBJECTIVE: The goal of this study is to refine an existing mobile, digital mental health intervention (Wysa for Chronic Pain) that addresses symptoms of depression, anxiety, and coexisting chronic pain for the unique challenges and technology use patterns of middle-aged and older adults.

METHODS: Using a mixed methods, human-centered design approach and a series of randomized trials, we will test and iteratively …

Changes In Elementary Math Teachers’ Beliefs And Practice Through Professional Development Partnerships And Curriculum Adoption, Amy Nebesniak, Kelly Gomez Johnson, Theodore J. Rupnow

Mid-Western Educational Researcher

Preparing teachers for instructional change is no easy task. For content areas already under the national spotlight, such as mathematics, transitioning to new curriculum materials while concurrently enacting instructional reform creates both a challenge and an opportunity. This paper discusses how professional development (PD) partnerships between two cross-state universities and respective school districts designed and implemented graduate courses for elementary teachers targeted at curricular and instructional reform specific to each district. In this mixed methods case study, we examined the change in participants’ beliefs and practices following PD during mathematics curriculum reform. Our findings support a collaborative, district-university PD model …
