Parental Expectations Of Pediatric Care For Children, Brenan T. Cash, Jacquelyn D. Wiersma-Mosley, Donia Timby, Laura Herold

Discovery, The Student Journal of Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences

Access to childhood pediatrics is a major factor for a full and healthy childhood for all children from adolescence to adulthood. However, the physical health aspect has been the main focus of most primary care clinics, and there is little focus on mental health. Mental health issues, which involve anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress, are more prominent than they have ever been, as up to 30% of children have experienced mental health issues that involve post-traumatic stress disorder, especially during the pandemic years. This study employed a non-experimental, quantitative analysis utilizing online closed-ended survey questions. Caretakers were offered an anonymous, …

The concept of personal data is rooted in the universal human right to privacy and confidentiality. In today’s jurisprudence, the right to privacy is paramount, especially in light of evolving technological advancements. The European Union General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR), implemented in 2018, established a global standard for the collecting, using, storing and processing of personal data. This development prompted numerous countries, including several African nations, to address data protection concerns, particularly in transborder data transfer.

African countries faced significant challenges in this endeavor as they grappled with inadequate laws, enforcement mechanisms, and technological infrastructure. Recognizing the legal and …

Navigating Divergence: Principle Or Pragmatism? The Us’ Executive Order On Ai And Its Implications For Us - Eu Governance, Terre Lundy

The Journal of International Relations, Peace Studies, and Development

President Trump’s Executive Order 14179: Removing Barriers to American Leadership in Artificial Intelligence issued in January 2025, indicates a significant shift from the United States’ alignment with EU AI and Digital policies. Replacing former President Biden’s EO 14110, which emphasized the safe, secure, and trustworthy development of AI, interagency coordination, and oversight, the new directive favors deregulation, industry-led innovation and securing US global AI dominance. Grounded in America First principles, Executive Order 14179 signifies a clear departure from multilateral AI cooperation, raising significant concerns about the future of AI development and deployment. This article examines the implications of Executive Order …

The reelection of Donald Trump has sent seismic shifts through the international order, challenging long-standing alliances, diplomatic norms, and the very architecture of global governance. This issue offers an urgent and critical examination of how a reinforced “America First” doctrine may redefine international relations, trade, security, and multilateral cooperation.

Set against a backdrop of escalating global crises—from climate change and armed conflict to …

Ditch Tradition...And Move To Case-Based Learning, Emily Dane-Staples Sep 2025

Ditch Tradition...And Move To Case-Based Learning, Emily Dane-Staples

The COSMA Journal

Recent criticisms of higher education include a lack of relevance and alignment with what employers are seeking in new hires. A lecture-based approach to teaching has proved less effective than other active learning strategies and does not adequately mimic the working environment sport professionals face. To better align the classroom and the workplace, a case-based learning approach can be used. This pedagogy blends high impact practices that have been demonstrated to assist students in knowledge acquisition and soft skill development by replacing traditional lecture and chapter readings with real-life scenarios that require student engagement with concepts in application. The technique …

Tv Versus Video Games: Their Distinctive Effects On Adolescent Behavior And Academic Achievement, Faiaz Rahman, Kathy L. Schuh Sep 2025

Tv Versus Video Games: Their Distinctive Effects On Adolescent Behavior And Academic Achievement, Faiaz Rahman, Kathy L. Schuh

The current paper uses data collected from a publicly available, nationally representative data set to examine the effects of TV viewing and video gaming on adolescent behavioral problems and cognitive achievement. Results revealed that extended hours of TV viewing were associated with greater anxiety/depression and antisocial problems. On the other hand, extended hours of video gaming were associated with higher reading comprehension scores. Differing effects of TV viewing and gameplay by an individual’s sex was also found during the analysis. It is also important to note that the opposite effects that the two media has on outcomes, indicate that, although …

Generation Of Animated Video Sequences From Static Images Using A Structured Motion Graphics Plan, Kyle Lampert Sep 2025

Generation Of Animated Video Sequences From Static Images Using A Structured Motion Graphics Plan, Kyle Lampert

Defensive Publications Series

Creating animated video sequences from static images to support a narration can be a time-consuming and skill-intensive process. A described method may automate aspects of generating documentary-style motion graphics. A system can receive a static image and a narrative description as inputs. For example, a first artificial intelligence (AI) model can perform an analysis to identify relevant points of interest in the image. Subsequently, a second AI model may generate a structured motion graphics plan that defines a sequence of virtual camera movements and on-screen annotations. A rendering engine can then interpret this plan to produce a video file, which …

Account Creation And Provisioning Using Virtual Identity Card, Andreas Zingler Aabye

Defensive Publications Series

Embodiments allow for binding an account number (e.g., a primary account number (PAN)) with a digital identity card (e.g., mobile driver’s license (mDL)). During a transaction between a user (e.g., account holder) and a transacting entity (e.g., merchant, resource provider), where the user presents a token associated with the PAN, even though the user ID information is not shared with the transacting entity, the transaction processing server can know that the user ID information was linked in the past from the binding between the PAN and the digital ID and can verify authenticated use (or identify fraudulent use) immediately.

Hands-Free Item Confirmation And List Management Using A Wearable Device, Omar Estrada Diaz Sep 2025

Hands-Free Item Confirmation And List Management Using A Wearable Device, Omar Estrada Diaz

Defensive Publications Series

Managing shopping lists on handheld devices is inefficient for shoppers who need both hands free. This is particularly true for professional shoppers who are compensated to shop for and deliver groceries or other retail goods on behalf of customers. Conventional workflows for professional shoppers require them to constantly hold, view, and interact with a smartphone, which is clumsy when handling items, opening refrigerated cases, weighing produce, and so forth. Accordingly, this disclosure addresses the problem with a hands-free list management solution. A wearable device, such as smart glasses equipped with a camera, may display the shopping list and automates item …

Holidays, Religiosity, And Democratic Attitudes, Hannah Ridge Sep 2025

Holidays, Religiosity, And Democratic Attitudes, Hannah Ridge

Political Science Faculty Articles and Research

Decades of research have linked religion and religiosity to support for democracy and authoritarianism. This study uses a temporal religious prime during national surveys – the European Social Survey and the National Election Survey – to identify the effect of religion on regime-type preferences. Jewish Israelis who took surveys on Friday or Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath, expressed more openness to non-democratic governance. They also interpreted the word democracy in a more populist way. Furthermore, non-religious Jews were less democratic on the Sabbath and more interested in strongman rule than they were on days without the religious connotation. Similarly, more religious …

“Sisters, Are You Running Out Of Menstrual Supplies??”: Exploring #Sistersfightpandemicwithease And Tactical Hashtag Feminism In The Covid-19 Crisis, Qingyue Sun

Interdisciplinary Studies

This article examines the hashtag feminism movement#SistersFightPandemicWithEase (#SFPWE) on Weibo, analyzing how it navigated state censorship, online misogyny, and platform governance during the Wuhan lockdown in China. Through qualitative analysis, I argue that #SFPWE diverges from traditional hashtag feminism, instead operating as a form of pragmatic feminism in crisis. The movement embodies what I term tactical feminist activism—an issue-based advocacy that prioritizes pragmatic problem-solving over structural critique. Its tactical nature lies in its ability to appear politically non-threatening and temporarily valuable to authorities. However, findings indicate that #SFPWE ultimately reinforced state legitimacy rather than challenging the structural gender inequalities underlying the …

Enhancing Patient Understanding And Reducing Readmissions: Implementing A Structured Discharge Teaching Protocol In A Medical-Surgical Unit, Jawany Joseph

DNP Projects

Background

Hospital readmissions remain a critical challenge in healthcare, especially in medical-surgical units. The high rates of hospital readmissions are often linked to inadequate patient understanding of discharge instructions. Many patients struggle with deciphering discharge plans, leading to medication errors, missed follow-up appointments, and poor self-care management. A structured discharge teaching protocol has the potential to enhance patient comprehension, improve adherence to port-discharge care, and reduce readmission rates.

Project Goals

This project aimed to improve understanding of discharge instructions, reduce hospital readmissions, and enhance patient satisfaction with the discharge process. Specific objectives included increasing patient comprehension from 65% to 90% …
