Towards Autonomous Energy Management: Machine Learning For Effective Auditing And Optimization, Sameh O. Abdellatif, Sherif Ashraf, Mira Mohsen Oct 2025

Towards Autonomous Energy Management: Machine Learning For Effective Auditing And Optimization, Sameh O. Abdellatif, Sherif Ashraf, Mira Mohsen

Electrical Engineering

This study presents a fully automated procedure for energy management and auditing, applicable to a diverse range of residential and commercial loads, leveraging machine learning techniques across three key phases: load classification, benchmarking, and smart monitoring. The model effectively categorizes energy loads based on consumption patterns, establishes performance benchmarks through historical data analysis, and employs real-time monitoring to identify inefficiencies and predict future energy usage. Evaluating the model through four distinct case studies demonstrates its capability to optimize energy consumption in a techno-economic manner, achieving significant energy savings of 34.73 MWh/year for essential loads in Egypt, 215.67 MWh/year for HVAC …

Faculty Research 2025

MOTIVATION: Identifying promising therapeutic targets from thousands of genes in transcriptomic studies remains a major bottleneck in biomedical research. While large language models (LLMs) show potential for gene prioritization, they suffer from hallucination and lack systematic validation against expert knowledge.

RESULTS: The framework identified 609 sepsis-relevant genes with >94% filtering efficiency, demonstrating strong enrichment for inflammatory pathways including TNF-α signaling, complement activation, and interferon responses. Literature validation yielded 30 ultra-high confidence therapeutic candidates, including both established sepsis genes (IL10, TREM1, S100A9, NLRP3) and novel targets warranting investigation. Benchmark validation against expert-curated databases achieved 71.2% recall, with systematic correlation between computational …

Creating The Polaris Initiative For First-Generation Undeclared Students, Jack Michaels

Masters Projects

First-generation undeclared students face compounded challenges in higher education, including lower sense of belonging, increased stress and anxiety, and higher attrition compared to their peers. While research has examined first-generation and undeclared students separately, little attention has been given to their intersecting identities. This paper provides a literature review of these students’ unique struggles and explores ways they may succeed throughout college. Living learning communities, first-year seminars, and interaction with faculty and academic advisors all have a positive impact on this student group. In response to the literature, The Polaris Initiative was created — a retention strategy for Grand Valley …

Determinant Factors Of Completeness Of Medical Resume Filling By Doctors At Pesawaran Regional General Hospital, Achmad Deza Farista, Aila Karyus, Abikusno Djamaluddin

Jurnal ARSI : Administrasi Rumah Sakit Indonesia

A medical resume serves as a vital document that compiles essential information related to a patient’s clinical management. In 2019, the completeness rate of medical resume documentation at Pesawaran Regional General Hospital was only 37.4%. This study aimed to identify factors influencing the completeness of medical resume documentation by doctors through a quantitative, cross-sectional design involving 37 inpatient care doctors. Data were collected via questionnaires and direct observation, then analyzed using univariate, bivariate (Chi-Square), and multivariate (Logistic Regression) methods. Observation showed that 56.8% of medical resumes were incomplete. Questionnaire results indicated that 54.1% of respondents had negative perceptions of Standard …

Histone post-translational modifications (PTMs) are crucial to eukaryotic genome regulation, with a range of reported functions and mechanisms of action. Though often studied individually, it has long been recognized that the modifications function by combinatorial synergy or antagonism. Interplay may involve PTMs on the same histone, within the same nucleosome (containing a histone octamer), or between nucleosomes in higher-order chromatin. Given this, the field must distinguish ever greater complexity, and the context in which it is studied, with brevity and precision. The proteoform was introduced to define individual forms of a protein by sequence and PTMs, followed by the nucleoform …

Cancer drug resistance poses a significant challenge in oncology, often driven by intricate cross-talk among membrane-bound receptors that compromise mono-targeted therapies. We develop a dual membrane receptor degradation strategy leveraging Folate Receptor α (FRα) to address this issue. Folate Receptor α Targeting Chimeras-dual (FolTAC-dual) are engineered degraders designed to selectively and simultaneously degrade distinct receptor pairs: (1) EGFR/HER2 and (2) PD-L1/VISTA. Through modular optimization of modality configurations and geometries, we identify the “string” format as the most effective construct. Mechanistic studies demonstrate an ~85% increase in EGFR-binding affinity compared to the conventional knob-into-hole design, likely contributing to the improved efficiency …

The immune environment surrounding the brain plays a fundamental role in monitoring signs of injury. Insults, including ischemic stroke, can disrupt this balance and incite an exaggerated inflammatory response, yet the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Here, we show that the mast-cell-specific receptor Mrgprb2 regulates post-stroke brain inflammation from the meninges. Mrgprb2 causes meningeal mast cell degranulation after stroke, releasing immune mediators. This process recruits skull bone marrow neutrophils into the dura and further promotes neutrophil migration from the dura into the brain by cleaving the chemorepellent semaphorin 3a. We demonstrate that the human ortholog, MRGPRX2, is expressed in human meningeal …
