An Examination Of Leadership Approaches In Alcoholics Anonymous As Perceived By Its Members, Kelly J. Shaw Aug 2026

An Examination Of Leadership Approaches In Alcoholics Anonymous As Perceived By Its Members, Kelly J. Shaw

Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations

This research analyzed leadership dynamics within Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), a 12-step recovery group that operates without traditional organizational structures. Although AA's Ninth Tradition emphasizes minimal formal organization, it allows the formation of service boards and committees. This contradiction raises questions about how AA functions effectively without a clearly defined leadership model. Using a qualitative approach, this study aimed to identify the type of leadership present within AA and explore its impact on maintaining sobriety. Additionally, the study examined AA members' perceptions of leadership and how leadership is reflected in the organization's practices. Applying the six-phase reflexive thematic analysis by (2006), …

The True Scope Of Trusting Your Gut: A Study Into The Enteric Nervous System And The Relationship Between The Gut-Brain Axis And The Mind, Bryan Pham Aug 2026

The True Scope Of Trusting Your Gut: A Study Into The Enteric Nervous System And The Relationship Between The Gut-Brain Axis And The Mind, Bryan Pham

Theses & ETDs

Since the early days of medicine, the “gut” had been associated as a seat of emotions and intuition, but as modern science marched forward, the brain itself was given complete dominion over mental health. But thanks to research into the enteric nervous system (ENS), which innervates the digestive tract and bilaterally communicates with the brain as a secondary function, we now know that, in a sense, the gut does indeed have a substantial impact on mental health outside of its primary functions. This profound discovery could potentially cause a massive rewrite for decades of modern neuroscience-based medicine. Overall, the study …

The current study examined whether BAP was associated with CF and how bilingualism and emotion influenced this relationship across development. Previous research has found that bilinguals show enhanced task-switching abilities. Individuals with BAP may show differences in emotional processing, …

Development And Validation Of A Multidimensional Measure Of Role Ambiguity: Integrating Nlp-Based Factor Analytic Techniques With Traditional Psychometrics, Md Allama Ikbal Sijan Aug 2026

Development And Validation Of A Multidimensional Measure Of Role Ambiguity: Integrating Nlp-Based Factor Analytic Techniques With Traditional Psychometrics, Md Allama Ikbal Sijan

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects

This dissertation developed and validated the Multidimensional Role Ambiguity Scale (MRAS), a measure that separates role ambiguity into five subdimensions: goal/expectation/responsibility ambiguity, process ambiguity, priority ambiguity, behavior ambiguity, and performance criterion ambiguity. Although role ambiguity is one of the most studied role stressors in organizational research, it has been measured largely as a single global score, a practice that masks differences among its facets and may explain the inconsistent criterion relationships reported in prior work. Scale development followed the three-step framework of Singh and Rhoads (1991). Thirty items were generated from working definitions grounded in role theory, and fifteen research …

A Comprehensive Study And Performance Optimization Of Shared Virtual Memory, Bennett Cooper Aug 2026

A Comprehensive Study And Performance Optimization Of Shared Virtual Memory, Bennett Cooper

All Dissertations

High performance computing (HPC) is dominated by heterogeneous systems that mainly derive performance from GPU accelerators. A majority of HPC applications have gravitated towards GPUs, which require explicit programming. Historically, programming explicitly to take advantage of GPUs has proven a significant barrier in fully utilizing GPU acceleration. Unified Memory (UM) is a technology designed to lower the barrier of entry to GPU programming by merging all memory domains of a system. While UM provides easier access to the capabilities of heterogeneous systems, the performance cost of UM greatly detracts from the benefit. Additionally, UM is implemented on a vendor-by-vendor basis …

Improving Collective Aggregation Strategies For Hpc And Ai Workloads, Mikaila J. Gossman Aug 2026

Improving Collective Aggregation Strategies For Hpc And Ai Workloads, Mikaila J. Gossman

All Dissertations

Modern high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) workloads increasingly generate data at rates that outpace the storage systems responsible for persisting it. While computational throughput has scaled dramatically through parallel processors, GPUs, and specialized accelerators, storage systems have improved far more slowly. As such, application performance is increasingly limited by the ability to move data efficiently through deep, heterogeneous storage hierarchies rather than by raw computational capability. This dissertation investigates how aggregation and data movement strategies must be redesigned to close this gap, addressing four central challenges: resource contention between foreground computation and background I/O, the fine-grained and irregular …

Ai You Can Trust: Understanding The Role Of Structural Assurance And Situational Normality In The Use Of Generative Ai, Olushola Bunmi Abayomi

Dissertations

The rapid growth of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has increased its use in productivity, content creation, and decision support; however, adoption depends on user trust, as GenAI performs tasks that are often associated with human judgment. Drawing on the Trust in Technology Model, this dissertation examines how structural assurance and situational normality influence Trust in GenAI, and how Trust in GenAI affects trusting intentions and users' willingness to depend on GenAI. Structural assurance and situational normality, captured through several factors, were modeled as antecedents of Trust in GenAI and, in turn, trusting intentions. The model was tested using survey-based experimental …

History, Myth, Courage, And Selflessness: Kate Shelley And The Bridge Of Darkness, Stephen M. Jennings

All Theses

This thesis documents the research, creative development, and production of the animated short film Kate Shelley and the Bridge of Darkness. The project is inspired by the historical account of Kate Shelley, a fifteen-year-old girl who in 1881 crossed a railroad bridge during a violent storm near Moingona, Iowa, to warn a nearby train station of a catastrophic bridge collapse. Over time, Shelley’s actions became both a documented historical event and a subject of mythologized retellings in American cultural memory. The film explores this tension between history and legend through an interpretation that balances historical research with cinematic storytelling. The …
