What Methods Do Pre-Licensure Bsn Students At A Christian University Use To Improve Resilience: A Qualitative Case Study, Beth Kelley Nov 2025

What Methods Do Pre-Licensure Bsn Students At A Christian University Use To Improve Resilience: A Qualitative Case Study, Beth Kelley

Wisdom & Compassion: The LUSON Journal

The purpose of this mixed-methods single-case study was to explore methods that pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students at a Christian university used to improve their resilience. Lazarus and Folkman's Transactional Model of Stress and Coping (1984) was employed as a theoretical framework, and the study asked: What methods did pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students at a Christian university use to manage stress and improve resilience? A convenience sample of 91 students was obtained to complete the demographic questionnaire, the Brief Resilience Scale, and the Perceived Stress Scale. Of those students, 25 volunteered for interviews …

Utilizing And Creating Indigenous Children’S Literature To Reclaim The Endangered Hoche Language, Jue Wang Nov 2025

Utilizing And Creating Indigenous Children’S Literature To Reclaim The Endangered Hoche Language, Jue Wang

Occasional Paper Series

Stemming from a large ethnographic study exploring young Indigenous children’s literacy and language practices in and out of school in a Hoche elementary school in rural Northeast China, this paper focuses on the navigation of Indigenous literature, language, and literacy learning of young Hoche children. Particularly, this reflective paper challenges the efficacy of Hoche language education in the oppressive context of the public schooling system, inviting Indigenous and non-Indigenous educators in China and across the world to rethink the urgency of reclaiming this endangered language and the power of Indigenous literature in understanding Hoche Indigenous ways of knowing, belonging, and …

“We Sing Too:” Pedagogical Approaches For Listening To Children In Indigenous Picturebooks, Rachel Stubbs, Anja Dressler Araujo, Kari Dressler, Jadyn Fischer-Mcnabb, Aubrey Hanson, Erin Spring

Occasional Paper Series

This article explores how storytelling, particularly through picture books, facilitates learning across boundaries of age, culture, gender, and education. In this article, we emphasize the value of picture books in integrating Indigenous oral traditions into the classroom, highlighting how these texts foster a reciprocal relationship between listener and storyteller. By focusing on the act of listening, our article argues that Indigenous picture books require active participation and decentering of the individual, positioning listeners as part of a larger collective. This article also underscores the importance of viewing children as active, responsible, and agential members of their communities, aligning with Indigenous …

The Legacy Of Language: Indigenous Language In Children’S Fiction, Christine Hartman Derr Nov 2025

The Legacy Of Language: Indigenous Language In Children’S Fiction, Christine Hartman Derr

Occasional Paper Series

Generally speaking, storytelling is an honored tradition in many Native communities. I use the term generally with a disclaimer. There are currently 574 federally recognized tribal Nations on the land presently known as the United States of America. There are additional Native Nations recognized at the state level and tribal Nations left unrecognized. Each Nation has its own culture, language, traditions, and beliefs. The statements made in this paper could not be universally applicable to all Indigenous communities. There is no monolithic Native perspective that could adequately represent every Native Nation, nor should there be. We celebrate our differences as …

Occasional Paper Series

At the heart of decision-making in children’s literature is the publisher who decides whose stories are told and how (Encisco et al, 2010). There is some research concerning inclusivity practices in the children’s literature that we see in libraries, homes and publishing houses (Caple & Tian, 2022; Daly, Vanderschantz, Mitchell & Blair, 2025; Daly, 2021; Stagg Peterson & Robinson, 2020). There is, however, little work examining how the publishing process can contribute to increased diversity in children’s picturebooks, particularly in relation to Indigenous languages and cultures. International research shows that there is limited cultural and linguistic diversity evident in children’s …

Heterogeneous Graph Model For Predictive Impact Analysis In Validated Systems, Ramakrishnan Neelakandan, Teginder Singh, Bakul Patel Nov 2025

Heterogeneous Graph Model For Predictive Impact Analysis In Validated Systems, Ramakrishnan Neelakandan, Teginder Singh, Bakul Patel

Defensive Publications Series

Assessing the impact of system modifications in regulated computing environments, such as on cloud platforms or on-premise servers, may be challenging, as some methods can rely on siloed tools or subjective manual reviews that may lead to inefficient re-validation or compliance risks. A system may utilize a heterogeneous graph model to create a unified digital representation of a validated system, which can integrate entities such as code, data, infrastructure, and regulatory requirements. For example, when a change is proposed, a change propagation simulator can analyze potential effects by performing a weighted traversal of the graph to determine a multi-dimensional impact …

Presence-Triggered Predictive Caching Of Media Content, D Shin Nov 2025

Presence-Triggered Predictive Caching Of Media Content, D Shin

Defensive Publications Series

On-demand digital media streaming systems may experience playback latency, such as buffering, as content can be retrieved reactively after a user makes a selection. The described systems and methods can address this by using a presence signal to trigger a predictive process. A presence signal can be generated, for example, when a user’s computing device (e.g., a smartphone, smart watch, or wearable device) connects to a local network (e.g., a Wi-Fi network) or enters a geofence. Upon receiving this trigger, and with appropriate user permissions being granted, a predictive modeling engine can analyze the user’s content consumption history and context …

Conditional User Equipment Keepalive For Efficient Location Updates In Non-Terrestrial Networks, Yanming Wang, Andy (Jibing) Wang, Shailesh Maheshwari Nov 2025

Conditional User Equipment Keepalive For Efficient Location Updates In Non-Terrestrial Networks, Yanming Wang, Andy (Jibing) Wang, Shailesh Maheshwari

Defensive Publications Series

In non-terrestrial networks, a user equipment (UE), such as a smartphone, smart watch, or other wearable device, moving between large satellite beam coverage areas can generate signaling overhead from frequent tracking area update (TAU) procedures. Suppressing these updates can result in the UE becoming less reachable for incoming, mobile-terminated services. A UE-centric method is described wherein a logic engine on the UE can evaluate a combination of contextual triggers, for example, user activity, modem state, and a change in tracking area. If certain conditions are met, the UE can transmit a lightweight, payload-free packet to initiate a control plane service …

Centralized Multi-Channel Power Architecture For Independent Charging Of Peripheral Devices, Yao Ding, Diego Liu Nov 2025

Centralized Multi-Channel Power Architecture For Independent Charging Of Peripheral Devices, Yao Ding, Diego Liu

Defensive Publications Series

A system and method are described for managing power in a system with a charging enclosure and multiple peripheral devices, such as wireless devices or other portable electronics. In some configurations where peripherals have dissimilar battery levels, a single power converter in the enclosure can result in energy inefficiency and heat generation in the peripheral with a lower state of charge. The described architecture can centralize charging regulation within the charging enclosure. The enclosure may incorporate a multi-channel charger that provides an independent, dynamically adjusted power output for each peripheral. This control may be based on real-time battery status data …

Budget And Collection Management Communication Strategies, Tools, And Methods, Evan Rusch, Heidi J. Southworth, Daardi Sizemore Mixon, Lisa Baures, Nat Gustafson-Sundell, Joe Holtermann

Library Services Publications

Many libraries face challenging budget situations. Communication with departments and administration about budget management and related changes to collections can be crucial to maintain constructive relationships and to improve cooperative planning. Academic libraries often rely on librarian liaisons to communicate directly with departments, but additional communication efforts are sometimes pursued. Libraries could learn from one another by sharing their communication strategies, tools, and methods. Our library has recently focused on collections communication across a range of projects and audiences. These projects have included a budget reduction plan and major print deselection project, as well as ongoing, prospective budget management. The …
