We Are Not Okay: Narratives Of Black Women Educators Working With Predominantly White Staff, Lindsay Charlotta Bussey
We Are Not Okay: Narratives Of Black Women Educators Working With Predominantly White Staff, Lindsay Charlotta Bussey
LMU Theses and Dissertations
Black women educators (BWEs) who worked in schools with a predominantly White staff endured environments that discouraged them from being themselves, oppressed their natural skill set, and limited their effectiveness. BWEs were not typically recognized for their pedagogical strengths and talents but rather only as racial minority representation in the school. This dissertation study’s two central research questions asked (a) how BWEs perceived the challenges and socio-emotional effects of working in school spaces with predominantly White staff and (b) what conditions were needed to be created for BWEs to heal and feel safe. This research utilized qualitative methods and focused …

Indigenous Invisibility: Gaps In Education About Indigenous Peoples Among Environmental Decision-Makers, Brittany D. Hunt, Ryan E. Emanuel, David E. Wilkins, Shelly H. Wilkins
Jepson School of Leadership Studies articles, book chapters and other publications
Millions of Indigenous people belong to hundreds of Tribal nations and self-determined communities throughout the United States. Many of these groups continue to steward lands and waters that have shaped their distinct cultural and political identities since time immemorial. Increasingly, environmental professionals acknowledge the need to respect, understand, and defer to Indigenous knowledge about Earth's stewardship, but substantial barriers prevent full realization of these goals. One deep-seated barrier is a widespread deficiency in basic education about Indigenous peoples. Education on Indigenous peoples in schools is often fraught with two problems: erasure and stereotypes. Thus, students who pursue environmental careers often …

Fpga-Based Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Controller For Quadrotor Uav Stabilization And Trajectory Tracking, Hocine Khati, Mohamed Amine Nehmar, Arezki Fekik, Mohand Achour Touat, Hand Talem, Rabah Mellah
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
This study presents the implementation of a fuzzy logic–based control system on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) for a quadrotor autonomous aerial vehicle (UAV). The objective is to design and integrate six Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy controllers to regulate roll, pitch, and yaw angles, along with longitudinal, latitudinal, and altitude movements, thereby stabilizing the UAV and enabling it to follow a desired trajectory. Due to the computational complexity of the six controllers, achieving the desired performance requires considerable processing time, which can adversely affect the quadrotor’s mission. Owing to their high processing power and operating frequency, FPGAs enable the control algorithm to …

Preservice Teachers’ Preconception Of Student Voice In Their Teacher Education, Joan Belfon
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A 2022 Jamaican education report highlighted that student-centered pedagogy is crucial to educational outcomes. A problem exists in that there is limited research on how student voice practices within student-centered pedagogy are incorporated into teacher training. Before preservice teachers’ praxis can be transformed, greater understanding of their preconceptions about student voice is essential. Guided by conceptual change theory, the purpose of this generic qualitative study was to explore the preconceptions of preservice teachers in rural central Jamaica about student voice in their teacher education. Eight preservice teachers preparing for the secondary level in three Jamaican higher education institutions were purposefully …

Therapeutic options for patients with renal medullary carcinoma (RMC) are limited. Here we report the results of a phase II clinical trial (NCT03274258) of anti-PD1 nivolumab plus anti-CTLA4 ipilimumab in patients with RMC, with objective response rate as primary outcome. Enrollment was halted for futility at a prespecified interim analysis as all 10 treated patients experienced rapid disease progression. 5/10 met radiological criteria for hyperprogression and median progression-free survival (secondary outcome) was 1.38 months (95% confidence interval: 1.28, 1.60). In a post-hoc single-cell RNA sequencing analysis, data from patients with RMC before and after nivolumab plus ipilimumab treatment indicated that …

C-Day Computing Showcase
Virtualization technologies form the backbone of modern cloud and serverless platforms, but the balance between performance efficiency and strong isolation remains a key research challenge. Using a comparative literature based methodology, benchmark data from empirical studies are synthesized and normalized across four metrics: startup latency, memory footprint, isolation strength, and scalability. The findings show that traditional VMs such as KVM and Xen provide robust, formally verified isolation but incur higher boot times and memory usage, whereas Micro VMs like Firecracker and Kata Containers achieve lower latency (often < 125 ms) and smaller memory footprints (5–30 MB) while preserving VM-level isolation. Overall, Micro VMs deliver near container responsiveness with VM-grade security, making them suited for serverless and edge environments. As a future direction, this study highlights the need for scalable, formally verified Micro VM architectures for next-generation cloud systems.

The scalability of current quantum networks is limited due to noisy quantum components and high implementation costs, thereby limiting the security advantages that quantum networks provide over their classical counterparts. Quantum Augmented Networks (QuANets) address this by integrating quantum components in classical network infrastructure to improve robustness and end-to-end security. To enable such integration, Quantum Anonymous Notification (QAN) is a method to anonymously inform a receiver of an incoming quantum communication. Therefore, several quantum primitives will serve as core tools, namely, quantum voting, quantum anonymous protocols, quantum secret sharing, etc. However, all current quantum protocols can be compromised in the …

Grp-0275 Graph Attention Network Based Downlink Channel Prediction Using In Frequency Division Duplexed Nextgen Networks, Jui Mhatre
C-Day Computing Showcase
In Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) 5G networks, downlink channel state information (CSI) must be estimated at the user equipment (UE) and fed back to the base station, a process that requires frequent CSI-RS transmission and uplink feedback, resulting in high overhead and energy consumption. This research proposes a novel base-station–centric framework that predicts the downlink channel matrix directly at the gNB, eliminating the need for continuous CSI-RS–based estimation at the UE. By leveraging uplink channel observations, geometric environment features, and learned mappings between uplink and downlink channel relationships, our model reconstructs the downlink MIMO channel with high fidelity. The system …
