A Knowledge-Driven, Ai-Assisted Cyber Defence Framework For Iomt Remote Patient Monitoring, Kulsoom S. Bughio, David M. Cook, Abdul M. Unar
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
The rapid adoption of Internet Medical Things (IoMT) technologies in remote patient monitoring has reshaped healthcare delivery by enabling continuous, real-time clinical observation outside traditional care settings. However, this shift has also expanded the cyber-attack surface across heterogeneous, resource-constrained medical devices, wireless networks, cloud services, and third-party platforms. In cyber warfare, healthcare has become an incorporated target of geopolitics, with hospitals, remote monitoring systems, and emergency health systems being used to broaden the attack surface for adversaries to exploit. Existing security approaches for IoMT environments remain largely manual, fragmented, and reactive, limiting their effectiveness in dynamically assessing vulnerabilities and supporting …

Renewable And Affordable Energy For Apartments. Inquiry Into Renewable And Affordable Energy For Apartments, Nishadi Ruwandima Weerasinghe Mudiyanselage, Asma Aziz
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Recent literature identifies a persistent disparity between detached housing and apartments in accessing renewable and affordable electricity. While rooftop solar PV deployment in Australia has expanded rapidly since 2017, access to these technologies in multi-unit dwellings (MUDs) remains limited, resulting in higher electricity costs for apartment residents compared with standalone houses. This inequity is increasingly significant given rising electricity prices and the growing share of Australians living in apartments.

Leading With Purpose: Uncovering The Impact Of Inclusive Leadership And Meaningful Work On Work Passion, Azadeh Shafaei, Mehran Nejati
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Work passion is a critical driver of employee wellbeing, engagement, and performance; however, organisations often struggle to cultivate it effectively. Understanding what fosters work passion is essential because it not only deepens insight into employee motivation but also enables organisations to enhance passion and its positive outcomes. Despite growing interest, research has primarily focused on individual traits, leaving the role of organisational and leadership factors under-explored. To bridge this gap, we extend the Employee Work Passion Appraisal (EWPA) framework by examining how inclusive leadership and meaningful work influence employees’ work passion and whether the psychological authenticity climate mediates these relationships. …

Multilevel Nested Paradoxes: How Organizational Leaders Interpret And Manage Tensions, Uzma Batool, Muhammad Mustafa Raziq, Peter Galvin, John Lewis Rice
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Organizational actors face multiple paradoxical tensions that are not only intertwined with one another but also nested across different levels of the organizational hierarchy. Despite their importance, little is known about how such paradoxical tensions are interpreted and managed by organizational leaders. To explore this phenomenon, we conducted semi-structured interviews and collected multilevel data from 38 respondents, including corporate executives, team leaders, and managers in the Pakistani telecommunications sector. Through an interpretive phenomenological analysis of participants’ lived experiences, we developed a multilevel nested paradox model. This model revealed four paradoxes nested both within and across levels: task efficiency and employee …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
There is an increase in the number of digital platforms used in higher education classrooms that promote using emojis to capture students’ emotions. However, there is little evidence to suggest that interpretation of emojis is reliable in this context. This pilot project explored if emojis can reliably signify the emotions expressed by first-year university students. Students were asked to record their emotions by selecting a representative emoji and using free text to describe its meaning. A total of 72 responses were recorded in an anonymous online survey. Happy face emojis were used more frequently than emojis representing neutral or unpleasant …

ℵ-Ipomdp: Mitigating Deception In A Cognitive Hierarchy With Off-Policy Counterfactual Anomaly Detection, Nitay Alon, Joseph M. Barnby, Stefan Sarkadi, Lion Schulz, Jeffrey S. Rosenschein, Peter Dayan
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Social agents with finitely nested opponent models are vulnerable to manipulation by agents with deeper recursive capabilities. This imbalance, rooted in logic and the theory of recursive modelling frameworks, cannot be solved directly. We propose a computational framework called ℵ-IPOMDP, which augments the Bayesian inference of model-based RL agents with an anomaly detection algorithm and an out-of-belief policy. Our mechanism allows agents to realize that they are being deceived, even if they cannot understand how, and to deter opponents via a credible threat. We test this framework in both a mixed-motive and a zero-sum game. Our results demonstrate the ℵ-mechanism’s …

Just Be Yourself....But Only If You Are Like Us? A Social Identity Theory Cross-Cultural Meta-Analysis Of Authentic Leadership, Andrei A. Lux, Kevin B. Lowe, Patricio Duran, Darren K. Bharanitharan
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
We apply social identity theory (SIT) within a culturally endorsed implicit leadership theory (CLT) frame to model how cultural values shape relationships between authentic leadership and follower outcomes. We use meta-analytic methods to test hypotheses with data from 292 studies drawn from over 40 countries, comprised of 100,641 individuals, and including 35 attitudinal, behavioural, and performance outcomes. Meta-analytic regression of cultural values coded at the country level reveals a significant pattern of moderation effects across 42.9% of the correlates we tested, suggesting that authentic leadership theory is culturally embedded. The effects of authentic leadership vary to the extent that it …

Empathy As Time Machine: Some Thoughts On Heartfelt Creativity, Keats, And Creative Writing, Donna Mazza, Joyce
Empathy As Time Machine: Some Thoughts On Heartfelt Creativity, Keats, And Creative Writing, Donna Mazza, Joyce
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
A contemporary interdisciplinary reflection on empathy as central to creative writing is presented here, with a focus on emotional contagion and embodied creative process. The centrality of empathic practice to creative writing has urgency as the discipline responds to generative Artificial Intelligence writing, which lacks empathy. The work undertakes a definition of empathy and its deployment, both within and beyond creative writing, and examines intentionality from the perspective of social research and creative writing process. Considering the centrality of empathy to the Romantic poets, the model of Keats’ concept of ‘negative capability’ is reviewed in relation to Maibom’s concept of …

Refuelling Behaviour And Electric Vehicle Uptake: Evidence From A Behavioural Transition Framework In Western Australia, Navid Hashemi Taba, Khatavakhotan
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
This study examined how refuelling routines, price responsiveness and discount expectations relate to readiness to replace a conventional petrol vehicle with an electric vehicle in Western Australia. A structured survey of nonelectric vehicle owners was administered in Perth (n = 442; conventional petrol n = 408; hybrid n = 34). Protocol-based cleaning and distributional diagnostics guided nonparametric inference and segmentation. Refuelling frequency comparisons between conventional and hybrid vehicle owners indicated higher visit frequency and monthly consumption among the former (monthly consumption: median 150 L vs. 92 L; U = 6963.5, z = 4.48, p < 0.001), whereas within conventional vehicle owners, no significant association was observed between monthly consumption and stated willingness to adopt an electric vehicle (U = 6633.0, p = 0.671). Expected petrol price discounts were tightly centred (median 10%; interquartile range 5%–15%), yet cluster analysis revealed a distinct segment combining high discount expectations (≈22%) and higher monthly consumption (∼211 L).
