Mycoethics: Reverence For Life In Light Of Modern Science, Charis E. Meyers Jan 2026

Mycoethics: Reverence For Life In Light Of Modern Science, Charis E. Meyers

Honors Undergraduate Theses

There is a 21st century wave of passion surrounding fungi and mycology, and it’s becoming louder and louder. The mycoenthusiasts themselves have a uniquely inspired ethical system born out of their science, and my aim is to both formally introduce their position, including many unspoken foundations, and defend its potential. I call this position mycoethics and attempt to collect it from the scattered tidbits in mycological media. I first identify its historical precedent, then spend a length of time establishing where its sense of goodness comes from, postulating it as a utilitarian offspring of Albert Schweitzer’s reverence for life. …

A Historical Analysis Of The Squatter Settlements (Sukumbasi) In Nepal And The Role Of Smart Settlements, Keshav Bhattarai, Ambika P. Adhikari Jan 2026

A Historical Analysis Of The Squatter Settlements (Sukumbasi) In Nepal And The Role Of Smart Settlements, Keshav Bhattarai, Ambika P. Adhikari

Himalayan Research Papers Archive

In Nepal, landless populations can broadly be categorized into two groups: urban squatters and rural landless families. Each group can further be distinguished by its level of political connection and access to power.

Among urban squatters, politically connected groups often occupy open public spaces in cities with some degree of protection or tolerance from political parties. In contrast, less powerful urban squatters usually settle on public land because they cannot afford formal housing. These settlements are commonly located in unsafe or marginal areas, such as riverbanks, flood-prone zones, and unused public spaces. Despite these risks, many remain in urban areas …

Blunt Relief: Cannabis Use As Coping Mechanism For Undergraduate Students With Adverse Healthcare Experiences, Isabella Marie Cafini Jan 2026

Blunt Relief: Cannabis Use As Coping Mechanism For Undergraduate Students With Adverse Healthcare Experiences, Isabella Marie Cafini

Senior Honors Theses and Projects

Negative experiences within the healthcare system can shape how individuals cope with psychological distress, particularly in young adult populations. Coping-motive frameworks suggest that when trust in formal support systems erodes, such as after an adverse healthcare experience, individuals may self-medicate with substances rather than risk another unsupportive interaction. This present study examined how negative experiences within the mental healthcare system influence help-seeking attitudes and cannabis use among college students. We hypothesized that (1) individuals with lower utilization of mental health resources will have higher cannabis use compared to those with higher utilization of mental health resources, and (2) greater amounts …

The Early Slasher Villain And Depraved Sexuality, Teagan Fuller Jan 2026

The Early Slasher Villain And Depraved Sexuality, Teagan Fuller

Senior Honors Theses and Projects

Early American slasher films (1979-1989) narrativize sexual deviance through the figure of the slasher. While the genre is realized through the trope of teenage sexual violence, my research shifts the focus onto the villain, analyzing how the monster often interacts with a form of sexual deviancy, either at a younger age or within sexual development, before submitting to their role as a slasher. In these films, the slasher monster encounters a form of sexual deviancy tied to their origin and behavioral development. These encounters can be realized through three categories: inappropriate sexual education, abnormal birth histories, or disturbed psychosocial development.
