Play For All: Financial And Legal Dilemmas In Proposing Adaptive Playgrounds, John J. Miller Dr., Jason W. Lee Jan 2026

Play For All: Financial And Legal Dilemmas In Proposing Adaptive Playgrounds, John J. Miller Dr., Jason W. Lee

The COSMA Journal

This case study examines the complexities of designing, funding, and legally complying with adaptive and inclusive playgrounds for children with disabilities. Inclusive playgrounds prioritize social integration by enabling children of all abilities to play together, while adaptive playgrounds focus on accommodating specific functional needs through specialized equipment. Both approaches support physical, cognitive, and social development and promote equitable community participation. Titles II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), mandate accessibility in public and private recreational spaces, yet compliance alone does not guarantee meaningful inclusion. Additionally, funding remains a significant challenge, with full-scale adaptive playgrounds often costing hundreds …

The Corinthian Twins: The Mystery Behind Naming King Lune’S Sons, Jono Darville Jan 2026

The Corinthian Twins: The Mystery Behind Naming King Lune’S Sons, Jono Darville

Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal

Michael Ward’s landmark discovery, as outlined in Planet Narnia, unlocked the hidden structure of C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia. Ward persuasively demonstrated that Lewis used the seven planets of medieval cosmology as an organizing principle for the Narnia series. With his discovery firmly in place, Ward has encouraged others to investigate the Narniad for new planetary connections and influences. To that end, in this article, I argue that C.S. Lewis named Cor and Corin after the books of 1 and 2 Corinthians in The Horse and His Boy, as these names are a perfect fit …

What Does Nature Mean In The Abolition Of Man? Or, The Participatory Ontology Behind The Sublime Waterfall, Chris R. Armstrong Jan 2026

What Does Nature Mean In The Abolition Of Man? Or, The Participatory Ontology Behind The Sublime Waterfall, Chris R. Armstrong

Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal

If Lewis’s Abolition of Man is simply an argument for objective moral value, or what we have called “the natural law,” then why begin with waterfalls that demand of us certain kinds of aesthetic judgment,[1] and end by saying that technocrats who take Nature in their own hands to control others with it have stepped outside of something larger than moral law, viz. the Tao, the Real itself, and thereby lost their very humanity?[2]

What, that is, is Nature in the Abolition? Certainly, it is not nature as construed in philosophical naturalism after Jane Austen, after the advent …

C. S. Lewis And Artificial Intelligence: An Ai Ethics Problem, Justin E. Edgerly Jan 2026

C. S. Lewis And Artificial Intelligence: An Ai Ethics Problem, Justin E. Edgerly

Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal

This paper demonstrates that the quest for safe and ethical AI is undermined by much of the philosophy, implicit and explicit, in AI literature and undergirding AI research and development. C. S. Lewis’s writings provide a prescient and penetrating critique of this philosophy and point toward a “regenerate science” that addresses the present need for wisdom in AI development. This paper contributes to the field of AI ethics by presenting several Lewisian concerns about the nature, application, and undergirding philosophy of current and future AI technologies, as well as a Lewisian perspective on the requirements for safe and ethical AI.

Divergent Paths: The Spiritual Friendship Of C. S. Lewis And Dom Bede Griffiths, Martha Abele Mac Iver Jan 2026

Divergent Paths: The Spiritual Friendship Of C. S. Lewis And Dom Bede Griffiths, Martha Abele Mac Iver

Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal

This essay argues that despite their parallel conversion journeys at Oxford and their lifelong friendship, C. S. Lewis and Dom Bede Griffiths ultimately came to different understandings about the relationship between humans and God and what it means to commune with God in what we commonly call prayer. Despite the frequent mention of prayer in their letters, their views of the way in which God was present within them and what communion with God entailed diverged in significant ways as Griffiths sought to integrate Christian and Hindu conceptions of God. Their own spiritual friendship may have survived this rift, but …

C. S. Lewis’S Lost French Doctorate, Anne-Frédérique Mochel-Caballero Jan 2026

C. S. Lewis’S Lost French Doctorate, Anne-Frédérique Mochel-Caballero

Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal

Before the American Narnia films, C. S. Lewis was virtually unknown in France. Even today, his fame is nowhere near the level it has reached in the English-speaking world, be it in academia, among Christians, or in popular culture. The number of French doctoral theses or books on Lewis is extremely small. As for the French translations of his books, many of them are now out of print. However, this was not always the case. Lewis has never been as well-known in France as in Britain or America, but during his lifetime he achieved a certain fame in secular universities, …

From Automation To Imagination: Empowering Student Creativity In The Digital Age, Annie Yon Jan 2026

From Automation To Imagination: Empowering Student Creativity In The Digital Age, Annie Yon

New Jersey English Journal

In today’s digital age, literacy extends beyond traditional reading and writing to encompass collaboration, multimodal communication, and the ability to create meaning through diverse media. As AI becomes more integrated into education, we must reconsider its impact on student thinking, work ethic, and writing, while redefining meaningful writing and assessments. Rather than relying on traditional five-paragraph essays, projects like literary magazines that blend writing with multimodal components showcase how educators can prioritize creativity, expression, and personal reflection. This approach ensures that even in the age of AI, students continue to create and engage in ways that are authentically their own.

What Future For The Human And Social Sciences?, Mariem Mesbahi Jan 2026

What Future For The Human And Social Sciences?, Mariem Mesbahi

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

Devalued or marginalized by some minds, the humanities and social sciences (HSS) nevertheless remain for others, more lucid ones, a science whose rigor is of a different order and rather qualify them as "noble" and no longer as "soft." Thus, through their fields of investigation, when one examines their domains, their functions and their methods, their scientific and cognitive legitimacy is recognized in the face of attempts to exclude them from the scientific field. As for their perspectives, the idea, still in vogue, that these sciences aspire to understand the mind, reasoning, emotions and social interactions is being surpassed given …

Specialized Translation And Language Teaching In Moroccan Higher Education: Bridging Theory And Practice Through Research In The Human Sciences, Abdelaali Kharmoum Jan 2026

Specialized Translation And Language Teaching In Moroccan Higher Education: Bridging Theory And Practice Through Research In The Human Sciences, Abdelaali Kharmoum

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

In higher education, which has been profoundly transformed by the globalization of knowledge and linguistic diversity, specialized translation has emerged as a key tool for language learning. It goes far beyond the scope of a simple lexical transfer exercise and has established itself as a space for mediation where theory, practice, cognitive reflection, and cultural sensitivity intersect. The rise of digital technologies machine translation, CAT software, and interactive platforms now offers students easy access to specialized corpora, which are essential in highly technical fields such as medicine, law, and applied sciences, where terminological accuracy remains a fundamental requirement. In the …

Anthropology Confronting The Digital: Complexity, Critical Thinking, And Democratic Stakes In Contemporary Human Sciences, Ibtissame El Hannachi Jan 2026

Anthropology Confronting The Digital: Complexity, Critical Thinking, And Democratic Stakes In Contemporary Human Sciences, Ibtissame El Hannachi

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

In a world shaped by globalization and the digital revolution, anthropology faces unprecedented challenges. It goes beyond merely observing societies, probing deeply into the transformations that redefine what it means to be human, as well as our interactions and identities. Technologies alter our relationships with space, time, the body, and others, while algorithms and data increasingly reduce human behavior to quantifiable patterns. In this context, anthropology provides a critical perspective, preserving the depth of experiences and the richness of contexts, and highlighting the cultural, symbolic, and social dimensions often hidden behind technical innovations. Through its interdisciplinary approach, drawing on history, …

Scientific Research In Geography In Morocco: Origins, Challenges And Perspectives, Anass Benichou, Said Abannay Jan 2026

Scientific Research In Geography In Morocco: Origins, Challenges And Perspectives, Anass Benichou, Said Abannay

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

Geographical research in Morocco plays a strategic role in understanding territorial transformations, urban expansion, rural migration, and climate-related challenges. Since the colonial period, the discipline has evolved from descriptive mapping to an applied science integrated within national universities. Moroccan geographers have contributed to sustainable resource management, urban planning, and major development projects, linking scientific knowledge with public policy. Despite these advances, the field faces structural, financial, and methodological constraints, limiting its international visibility and practical impact. The adoption of digital tools such as GIS, remote sensing, and artificial intelligence has enhanced predictive and analytical capacities. Future development depends on methodological …

Economic Activities And Gender Inclusiveness. A Case Of Maize Production In Tanzania And Integrated Research Review, Mirau Ndetaulwa Mbise

Tanzania Journal of Sociology

This study examines the participation of men and women in agricultural operations. The study aligns appropriately with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number five and the importance of engendering development regardless of the nation’s development level. Data were gathered using survey questionnaires and Integrated Research Review (IRR) techniques, and the production function was estimated. Results indicate that male-headed households dominated in the study area. A significant increase in maize production was observed, with more women participating. However, women's engagement in crucial agricultural activities was low. IRR indicates that female-headed households produce less compared to male-headed households. Females spent more time …

Analysis Of Indigenous And Intercultural Public Education In Mexico, Felipe González Jan 2026

Analysis Of Indigenous And Intercultural Public Education In Mexico, Felipe González

Tanzania Journal of Sociology

This article analyzes the processes of indigenous and intercultural education in Mexico as components for the ideological construction of national identity. An important question arises: why do we Mexicans have so much trouble identifying with our cultural differences? From a historical and contemporary perspective, it is analyzed the articulation between two historical moments: a) The basic level indigenous education, implemented throughout the 20th century and b) The intercultural higher education, which began at the beginning of the 21st century. Although each one has its nuances, they are analyzed as part of a historical continuum that stands as a project that, …

The number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) has risen at an unprecedented rate in recent years, resulting in profound psychological, social, and economic consequences for affected populations. This study provides a comprehensive exploration of the unique challenges and needs experienced by IDPs, synthesising existing literature to offer critical insights for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers striving to improve the mental health and psychosocial well-being of forcibly displaced persons. Employing a qualitative discourse analysis (DA) approach, the study critically examines how psychosocial vulnerabilities among IDPs are constructed, represented, and contested within academic, policy, and humanitarian narratives. It draws upon a range of …

Identifying Best Practices To Decrease The High Rate Of 30-Day Rehospitalization Of Patients With Dementia From Skilled Nursing Facilities, Mavis Johnson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Abstract As CMS continues to prioritize quality care over quantity and positive patient outcomes, hospitals and nursing homes must ensure that their mission and goals align. The high rehospitalization rate is a current and ongoing concern among policymakers and healthcare administrators. Adverse patient outcomes and increased financial costs to both patients and Health Service Organization (HSO) administrators highlight the need to identify best practices to help reduce rehospitalization. The purpose of this integrative review is to identify best practices for reducing the high rate of 30-day rehospitalization among patients with dementia in skilled nursing facilities (SNF). The review question that …
