Keeping Children Safe: Bring Kayden's Law To Ohio, Christina Woods-Tsiperson Jan 2026

Keeping Children Safe: Bring Kayden's Law To Ohio, Christina Woods-Tsiperson

Akron Law Review

After decades of punishing murder-suicide headlines, a growing body of evidence now corroborates what female domestic violence survivors have said for years: that family courts deciding child custody cases disproportionately reject mothers’ allegations of domestic violence and paternal child abuse. From prominent legal scholars to local family law attorneys (and increasingly, investigative reporters), many modern voices contend that mothers specifically face a litany of obstacles in court, including heightened judicial suspicion that they are “parental alienators,” a widespread minimization of coercive control, and state legal standards that  emphasize shared parenting over child safety.

Following the widely publicized murder of seven-year-old …

Habitat Destruction: The Where Of Biodiversity Law, Andrew W. Torrance Ph.D., Bill Tomlinson Ph.D.

Akron Law Review

The existence of appropriate habitats is essential to the continued existence of all species with which humans share the Earth. However, humans are currently enacting changes around the globe--anthropogenic environmental disruption--that threaten the habitats of many species. In this article, we first summarize existing habitat-related law in various countries, including legal designation of areas for protection (e.g., national parks), laws that enable conservation organizations to purchase but not utilize development rights, and international treaties such as the Convention on Biological Diversity or the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance. We then propose a suite of novel approaches …

Comparing Educational Pathways For Denturists To Become Maxillofacial Prosthetic Specialists In The Us And The Uk, Minseok Kim

Oral Health

Abstract

In the absence of formal training, licensure, and professionalism, this scientific literature review will seek to include denturists in the American maxillofacial prosthetics industry. Denturists are oral health professionals who perform oral examination, design, manufacture, and place removable oral prostheses. In other regions of the world, they are also known as clinical dental technologists and dental prosthetists. This practice is not widespread in the US. The review can also be assessed on the model mediated by PRISMA, which is concentrated on the experiences of international education in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, where the concentration further revolves around …

Utilizing Fantasy Sports To Enhance Student Learning Jan 2026

Utilizing Fantasy Sports To Enhance Student Learning

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

Over the past 20 years, participation in fantasy football has increased dramatically. During this timeframe, many universities have encouraged instructors to diminish the importance of the traditional "lecture format" in the classroom. Many institutions have begun to insist that the most effective teaching involves active student participation rather than one-way communication (Rocca 2010). This paper discusses the implementation of a semester-long fantasy football exercise that is primarily designed to require students to demonstrate their understanding of strategic management and basic economic principles by mandating they apply those principles to situations such as an auction draft and labor disputes.

Postoperative Inhaled Nitric Oxide Use And Early Outcomes After Fontan Surgery Completion, Kamalvir Gill, Estefania Rivera, Nicolas Ortiz Flores, Amro Alashi, Anthony Rossi, Jun Sasaki

Journal of Pediatric Intensive Care

A considerable number of patients after the Fontan operation require prolonged hospitalization due to significant perioperative morbidities. The early postoperative morbidity can be attributed to elevated pulmonary vascular resistance. We hypothesized that the postoperative outcomes would improve with the routine use of inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) to decrease pulmonary vascular resistance. From January 2015 to November 2017 (Group 1), 37 patients underwent Fontan operation, and from December 2017 to December 2019 (Group 2), 34 patients underwent Fontan operation. All patients in Group 2 received iNO in the immediate perioperative period as part of a standardized postoperative pathway. There was no …

The Temporal Situation And The Analysis Of Territorial Systems, Said Sghir

Basamat

Time is considered a key factor in the functioning of this universe. It allows for evolution, change, and disappearance. In geography, time is linked to space to guide any analysis that focuses on the question of territories toward a space-time duo whose two components are different from each other but difficult to separate. To dissect this issue, this work will focus on the one hand on the discussion of time as a concept in relation to other notions such as space, geography, and territorial systems. On the other hand, it will draw on investigative and analytical tools capable of further …

The manual creation of specialized compliance documentation for international trade may be a resource-intensive process, potentially leading to operational delays. Systems and methods are described for the automated generation of product briefing documents. The technology may utilize a central orchestration service that integrates a generative artificial intelligence model with multiple enterprise data sources, for example, product lifecycle management systems and repositories of existing documents. To generate a new document, the system can identify similar products based on shared attributes, such as a commodity code, and could use data from these products to construct a few-shot prompt for the model. This …

Cascaded Model Architecture For Resource-Efficient Contextual Action Suggestion, Lixia Liu, Jian Wu, Georgi Angelov, Jiang Wang Jan 2026

Cascaded Model Architecture For Resource-Efficient Contextual Action Suggestion, Lixia Liu, Jian Wu, Georgi Angelov, Jiang Wang

Defensive Publications Series

Providing real-time contextual action suggestions in communication environments can involve computational cost and latency associated with running large-scale artificial intelligence models. A system can address these considerations using a cascaded, multi-layered modeling architecture. The system may first process contextual data, such as live meeting transcripts, through a lightweight, computationally inexpensive classification model. If this model returns a prediction with a confidence score below a predetermined threshold, the request can be escalated to a more resource-intensive model, such as a large language model, for a more nuanced analysis. This gating mechanism can balance predictive accuracy with computational efficiency, which may reduce …

Lived Experiences Of Law Enforcement Officers Assigned To Co-Response Teams Responding To Mental Health Crises, Roxanne Miller Jan 2026

Lived Experiences Of Law Enforcement Officers Assigned To Co-Response Teams Responding To Mental Health Crises, Roxanne Miller

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Law enforcement officers are increasingly called upon to respond to mental health crises, yet their experiences as members of co-response teams (CRTs) remain underexplored. This study was conducted to address that gap by examining the lived experiences of officers assigned to CRTs that pair specially trained officers with mental health clinicians to respond jointly to calls involving individuals in crisis. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to describe how officers experience CRT work and how it shapes their perceptions, practices, and professional identity. The study was guided by Lazarus and Folkman’s transactional theory of stress, appraisal, and coping, …
