Un Extraño En Una Tierra Extraña: A Latino Debater’S Recollections Of The United Kingdom Debate Tour, Richard D. Pineda Feb 2026

Un Extraño En Una Tierra Extraña: A Latino Debater’S Recollections Of The United Kingdom Debate Tour, Richard D. Pineda

Studies in Debate and Oratory

Through the lens of a first-time participant of the Committee on International Discussion and Debate Tour of the United Kingdom and Portugal in 1997, this autoethnography examines the values of the debate tour experience from my unique standpoint. Having been in competitive speech and debate for eight years at that point – from high school through college – the debate tour challenged many of my assumptions about the activity and my perspective on speech and debate as an experiential learning platform. Specifically, I examine the experience of being on the tour through the identity lens of a Latino debater and …

International Students In Early American Forensics: Notes On The History Of The U.S.-Japan Forensics Relationship During The Late 19th And Early 20th Centuries, Satoru Aonuma, Junya Morooka, Tomohiro Kanke

Studies in Debate and Oratory

Ending 215 years of “national seclusion,” in 1854, Japan ratified the Treaty of Amity and Commerce with the United States and opened its doors to the rest of the world. Because of this special bilateral relationship, between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, more Japanese began traveling to the U.S. than to any other country. Focusing on young Japanese who went to the U.S. as students and participated in debate and oratorical education during this period, this essay will re-examine the history of the U.S.-Japan relationship in terms of academic debate and oratory. During this period, American …

Consumer Decision-Making Constructs: Differences Among Generational Cohorts, Heather M. Meyer, Chloe Murphy Feb 2026

Consumer Decision-Making Constructs: Differences Among Generational Cohorts, Heather M. Meyer, Chloe Murphy

Mountain Plains Journal of Business and Technology

Generational cohort theory has been popular in the social sciences for decades, yet it remains a niche topic in the consumer behavior literature. Prior studies have found relationships between generational cohorts and various product categories. In this study, the relationship between generational cohorts and consumer decision-making constructs is assessed. A nationally representative survey was conducted. MANOVA and ANOVA analyses revealed relationships between generational cohorts and promotion focus, information acquisition, quality consciousness, compulsive buying, and consumer debt characteristics. A separate linear regression analysis showed significance between age and some of these decision-making characteristics. Limitations, implications, recommendations, and directions for future research …

Continuous Data Streaming Via A Jtag Interface, Harsharaj Ellur Feb 2026

Continuous Data Streaming Via A Jtag Interface, Harsharaj Ellur

Defensive Publications Series

Traditional JTAG data transfers often face limitations due to the “stop-and-wait” nature of the IEEE 1149.1 protocol. High overhead is introduced because the Test Access Port (TAP) state machine must be transitioned between SHIFT-DR and UPDATE-DR states for every individual data word. This disclosure describes a JTAG-to-AXI bridge microarchitecture that implements a streaming-write mechanism. A Command FIFO is utilized to decouple JTAG programming from AXI bus execution. An internal bit-shift counter and control logic are employed to automatically push data into a Write FIFO after a fixed number of bits are shifted. This allows a JTAG host to remain in …

Visual Movement Indicator For Head-Worn Displays, Chia Wei Kao Feb 2026

Visual Movement Indicator For Head-Worn Displays, Chia Wei Kao

Defensive Publications Series

Collisions between users of head-worn displays and individuals in the immediate environment often occur because the physical movement of the user is unpredictable to bystanders. This disclosure describes a head-worn display equipped with external visual indicators and an integrated orientation sensor, such as a gyroscope. The sensor detects changes in head position or user leaning, and specific patterns of light are emitted from the visual indicators based on the detected direction. For example, forward, backward, or lateral movements trigger corresponding indicators on the front, rear, and/or sides of the device chassis. By providing real-time visual signals of a user's intended …

Just-In-Time Adaptive Interventions For Wellness Management Via Context-Aware Wearable Devices, Cecilia Abadie, Aveek Purohit, Pinal Bavishi, Theo Guidroz, Ayush Jain, Ines Mezerreg

Defensive Publications Series

ABSTRACT

Manual logging for health and wellness often results in low user engagement due to the high effort and friction involved for data entry. Additionally, ongoing activity observation using high-fidelity sensors on wearable devices is constrained by finite battery life and computational resources. To address these challenges, a unified architecture is described that facilitates just-in-time adaptive interventions.

A cascaded sensing layer is utilized to reduce power consumption. A low-power sensor screens for motion signatures indicative of potential events, such as hand-to-mouth gestures, on a persistent basis. Upon detection, a high-power sensor is triggered to capture rich contextual data. This data …

Exploring Protective Behaviours Among Users Of Mobile Financial Services, Nicholas Washington Omollo, Manoj Maharaj Feb 2026

Exploring Protective Behaviours Among Users Of Mobile Financial Services, Nicholas Washington Omollo, Manoj Maharaj

The African Journal of Information Systems

As digital financial services grow, users face rising risks of financial loss through mobile platforms, often due to limited awareness of protective behaviours. This study surveyed 1,159 mobile financial service (MFS) users in Kenya to examine attitudes, concerns, security adoption, and actual practices. A behavioural model was developed by integrating information security and privacy literature with the Theory of Planned Behaviour, and tested using structural equation modeling via smart-PLS. Findings reveal that prior financial loss significantly heightens security and privacy concerns, influencing attitudes toward mobile protection and intentions to adopt secure practices. Loss experiences also increase user vigilance and perceived …

From Presumed Intent To Programmed Performance: Smart Contracts And The Future Of Contract Law, Amir Bushansky Feb 2026

From Presumed Intent To Programmed Performance: Smart Contracts And The Future Of Contract Law, Amir Bushansky

Cleveland State Law Review

Smart contracts—self-executing agreements operating on decentralized blockchain networks—challenge the fundamental assumptions underlying traditional contract law. This Article challenges the prevailing scholarly approach that seeks to reshape smart contracts to fit existing doctrinal frameworks. Instead, it argues for adapting contract law itself to better accommodate smart contracts, given their unique advantages in cyberspace. Building on two complementary premises—that contract law primarily operates as “mimicking law,” reflecting the presumed expectations and preferences of contracting parties, and that default rules function as behavioral reference points that shape party behavior—the Article develops a positive theory predicting the expectations and preferences of parties entering into …

Optimizing Workforce Planning To Reduce Outsourcing Of Clinical Roles In Physician Practices, Heidi Sontag Feb 2026

Optimizing Workforce Planning To Reduce Outsourcing Of Clinical Roles In Physician Practices, Heidi Sontag

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The increasing reliance on outsourcing of clinical roles in physician practices has raised concerns regarding continuity of care, staff morale, and organizational control over service quality. While outsourcing may offer temporary financial relief, outsourcing often introduces inefficiencies and declines in patient satisfaction. In this integrative review, I identified workforce planning strategies that reduce outsourcing reliance while enhancing organizational efficiency and patient care outcomes. Using the Johns Hopkins evidence appraisal tools, I analyzed sources published between 2022 and 2025 grounded in resource dependency and Herzberg’s two-factor theories. Five thematic areas emerged: organizational efficiency, patient satisfaction, cost management, staff morale and engagement, …

Invisible Man: Mental Health Providers And How Implicit Bias Manifests When Treating African American Men, Jamila Kali Robinson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

African American men continue to face disproportionate barriers to engagement, accurate diagnosis, and equitable nonbiased treatment in mental health settings. The purpose of the qualitative narrative inquiry was to explore how implicit bias and sociocultural assumptions manifest among mental health providers who diagnose and treat African American men. Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory, which considers the influences of all the systems that shape an individual’s lived experiences, was the study’s theoretical framework. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with five licensed mental health providers who worked in large hospital systems, private practice, or community-based clinics. The interview data were analyzed using Braun and …

Staff Education To Improve Rn Accountability In Interdisciplinary Rounds Using Qr Code Tracking, Jennifer L. Zimmerman Feb 2026

Staff Education To Improve Rn Accountability In Interdisciplinary Rounds Using Qr Code Tracking, Jennifer L. Zimmerman

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Interdisciplinary rounding is essential for effective communication, coordinated care, and patient‑centered decision‑making; however, baseline observational audits on pediatric inpatient units at a large northeastern hospital revealed that nurses were present for only 54% of rounding opportunities, with no formal accountability process. This Doctor of Nursing Practice project aimed to improve registered nurse (RN) engagement and accountability in interdisciplinary rounds through a structured staff education intervention paired with a QR code–based tracking process. The practice‑focused question examined whether educating nursing staff on a QR code rounding system would increase nurses’ knowledge of rounding expectations and positively influence accountability behaviors. Fourteen RNs …

The Moderating Role Of Self-Esteem In The Relationship Between Perceived Gender Bias And Job Satisfaction Among Women In The Technology Industry, Roberta L. Minicola

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Women employed in the technology industry continue to experience gender-based bias that may adversely affect job satisfaction. Although the deleterious impact of gender bias on women’s job satisfaction has been well documented, the potential of self-esteem to mitigate this impact has not yet been examined. Informed by social dominance theory, the purpose of this quantitative, cross-sectional, correlational study was to examine the moderating effect of self-esteem on the relationship between perceived gender bias (i.e., insufficient support, devaluation, hostility) and job satisfaction among women working in the U.S. technology sector. Data were collected from 138 female technology professionals recruited through Amazon …

Mycobacteria Infection Induced Cascade Of Epigenetic Alterations Promote Training In Bystander Macrophages, Shah E. Jahan Gulzar Mr Feb 2026

Mycobacteria Infection Induced Cascade Of Epigenetic Alterations Promote Training In Bystander Macrophages, Shah E. Jahan Gulzar Mr

Theses and Dissertations

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) remodels host cell functions to support its intracellular persistence. While the effects of Mtb infection on infected macrophages are well characterized, responses of uninfected bystander cells in the same microenvironment remain poorly understood. Here, we show that Mtb infection triggers widespread epigenetic reprogramming not only in infected macrophages but also in neighbouring bystander cells. These bystander macrophages acquire active chromatin marks, exhibit distinct transcriptional changes, and display enhanced immune responsiveness, thereby increasing resistance to both homologous and heterologous infections. We identify interleukin-1 beta secreted by infected cells as a key mediator of this process. Functionally, trained bystander …

Dynamic Soliton Solutions And Stability Analysis Of The (2+1)-Dimensional Wazwaz Kaur Boussinesq Equation Using An Efficient Method, Nivan Mohamed Elsonbaty, Hamdy Mohamed Ahmed, Niveen Mohamed Badra, Wafaa B. Rabie Feb 2026

Dynamic Soliton Solutions And Stability Analysis Of The (2+1)-Dimensional Wazwaz Kaur Boussinesq Equation Using An Efficient Method, Nivan Mohamed Elsonbaty, Hamdy Mohamed Ahmed, Niveen Mohamed Badra, Wafaa B. Rabie

Basic Science Engineering

This paper presents the first application of the Modified Extended Direct Algebraic (MEDA) method to the (2+1)-dimensional Wazwaz-Kaur-Boussinesq equation, a model governing wave dynamics in shallow waters. The approach successfully uncovers previously unreported classes of exact solutions, including combo dark–singular solitons and Jacobi elliptic function solutions. The spectrum of obtained solutions–which also encompasses bright, dark, and singular solitons, as well as hyperbolic, periodic, exponential, and rational functions–reveals rich and complex soliton dynamics. A comprehensive stability analysis confirms the robustness of these solutions under perturbation. These results significantly advance the understanding of wave propagation in nonlinear systems, providing valuable insights for …
