From Military Service To Civilian Life: Nature Intervention In Vha Psychiatric Care, Austin T.B. Corbett

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing nature- based interventions in locked psychiatric units of the Veterans Health Administration to support veterans during military- to- civilian transition who experience severe mental health crises. The transition from military service to civilian life represents one of the most significant psychological adjustments and individuals can experience, involving fundamental changes in identity, social structure, purpose, and daily routine. This transition creates vulnerability for developing mental health conditions including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Veterans experiencing severe health mental crises during transition often require intensive inpatient psychiatric care, yet current VHA …

Music Ministry Of Children And Youth: A Study And Defense For Incorporating Children And Youth Choirs In The Modern Worship Service, Veronica Leigh Haber Allison Feb 2026

Music Ministry Of Children And Youth: A Study And Defense For Incorporating Children And Youth Choirs In The Modern Worship Service, Veronica Leigh Haber Allison

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Graded children’s choir ministries have been a part of churches for the last century. In recent years, there has been a growing trend away from offering music ministry opportunities to children and youth in contemporary churches. There are several reasons for this decline; the major reason is that many churches have moved away from traditional music offerings to a praise band format. It has rendered the musical training of children in church unnecessary. The limited quantity of recent scholarly literature, the decline in commercially produced music, and the discontinuation of teaching materials for children’s choir ministries also attest to this …

While there have been many barriers and challenges identified with postpartum women accessing services, stigma around services has been identified as the most common barrier. This led to looking at the attitudes that postpartum women have regarding accessing these services to improve wellness. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore postpartum women’s attitudes toward accessing behavioral health services, primary care services, …

A Phenomenological Study Of African American Clergy Premarital Financial Counseling Practices, Mary Lawrence Zimmerman Feb 2026

A Phenomenological Study Of African American Clergy Premarital Financial Counseling Practices, Mary Lawrence Zimmerman

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this phenomenological qualitative research study was to explore how African American clergy members described their experience of providing premarital financial counseling to engaged couples. Research indicates that financial issues are a significant source of conflict for couples and rank among the leading causes of divorce (Scott et al., 2013; Hawkins et al., 2012). Numerous studies also reflect couples' perceptions of counseling interventions, including their participation and benefits. However, the literature is limited concerning the perspectives of clergy who offer premarital financial counseling (Halley et al., 2011). Given the influence of money on relationships and the biblical role …

Father Of The Bride: Vindicating Deanda’S Claim Against 42 C.F.R. § 59.10(B), Matthew S. Mcguire

Helms School of Government Undergraduate Law Review

Across the judicial landscape of U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals, no state shall deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law or at the prerogative of Congress and HHS. Veiled behind the complexity of administrative law, 42 C.F.R. § 59.10(b) precludes parental consent notifications for all Title X services for all parents. In 2020, the HHS Final Rule came to light after the District Court for the Northern District of Texas vacated the directive. Although the 5th Circuit affirmed and reversed in part, HHS does not enforce § 59.10(b) in Texas. For the rest of …

Teachers’ Perspectives On Facilitating Design Talks With Young Learners, Chelsea J. Andrews, Jessica Watkins, Kristen B. Wendell, Rae Woodcock, Vera Gor, Naina Sood Fox, Molly Malinowski, Rachel Bandi, Shannon Rausch

Journal of Pre-College Engineering Education Research (J-PEER)

With intentional teacher facilitation, whole-class conversations can help students refine their engineering reasoning, consider new ideas, and make novel connections between different ways of defining or solving a problem. These conversations can also help students expand their engineering thinking to include perspectives of care and socioethical deliberations. A team of classroom teachers and university researchers has been enacting and studying whole-class engineering design conversations—Design Talks—in first through sixth grade classrooms. We organize Design Talks in five genres: problem-scoping talks, idea generation talks, design-in- progress talks, design synthesis talks, and impact talks. After five years of planning, implementing, and analyzing recorded …

Building And Sustaining Chosen Family Amongst Low-Income First-Generation Engineers, Justin C. Major Feb 2026

Building And Sustaining Chosen Family Amongst Low-Income First-Generation Engineers, Justin C. Major

First-Generation Symposium

Support is integral for low-income first-generation student success in and out of engineering, particularly because of the role support plays in building belonging. Students receive support from many individuals including their traditional and chosen families. While traditional family are those family “assigned at birth,” chosen family are those family you pick and choose, inclusive of teachers, friends, and others. Our research group’s (ASPIRE) extensive work on the topic has documented how chosen family come to be and why they are important for low-income first-generation success. Amongst many components, we have found that chosen family are more trustable given their authenticity …

Pon Port Oam Reflector Using A Single Onu Mac Address Feb 2026

Pon Port Oam Reflector Using A Single Onu Mac Address

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes a scalable approach for supporting Ethernet OAM, including ITU-T Y.1731 performance monitoring, on Passive Optical Network (PON) Optical Network Units (ONUs) using a single MAC address. The approach anchors downstream Maintenance Association End Points (MEPs) logically at the PON interface, allowing all unicast Y.1731 messages for multiple Ethernet services to use the ONU PON MAC as a common destination address. By extending existing ITU-T G.988 Dot1ag MEP configuration to associate a MEP with the ANI-G entity, and by leveraging the standardized ONU Manufacturing Data Managed Entity for MAC address discovery, the approach avoids per-service MAC address allocation …

Clinical Practice Guideline For Universal Anxiety Screening For Advanced Practice Providers, Kelechi Blanton Feb 2026

Clinical Practice Guideline For Universal Anxiety Screening For Advanced Practice Providers, Kelechi Blanton

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This project was a clinical practice guideline (CPG) focused on anxiety screening in a primary care setting using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) screening tool. The practice problem addressed general anxiety disorder and the need for standardized assessments for risk, as recently been recommended by the U.S. Prevention Service Task Force (USPSTF). Anxiety disorder is common but frequently untreated, due in part to low rates of screening. Lack of an evidence-based guideline for anxiety screening may contribute to delayed diagnosis and inconsistencies. The practice-focused question was, Does the evidence support development of an evidence-based CPG for universal anxiety screening in …

Experiences Of Loneliness And Belonging Among U.S.-Born Women During The Covid-19 Pandemic In Germany, Anna Sizorina Feb 2026

Experiences Of Loneliness And Belonging Among U.S.-Born Women During The Covid-19 Pandemic In Germany, Anna Sizorina

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Existing literature indicates that the COVID-19 pandemic led to increased levels of loneliness, particularly among individuals with transnational ties. Travel and entry bans, along with social distancing, led to separation from family abroad and from people and communities in the countries of new residence. In this qualitative phenomenological study, experiences of loneliness and belonging among U.S.-born women during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Germany were explored. The transaction theory of stress guided the scientific enquiry, and the evolutionary theory of loneliness served as a conceptual framework for examining loneliness in the given context. Six adult female participants, born in the United …

Teaching Multiculturalism With A Christian Worldview To Influence Perspectives: Combating Emotions And Challenging Presuppositions Of Counselors, Steven Brooks Feb 2026

Teaching Multiculturalism With A Christian Worldview To Influence Perspectives: Combating Emotions And Challenging Presuppositions Of Counselors, Steven Brooks

Faculty Publications and Presentations

In counseling education, teaching multiculturalism is a critical curricular component. Today, counselors (more widely defined as various caregivers) are more likely to encounter people whose race or culture differs from their own. Therefore, to be the most effective counselor, a solid and unapologetic curriculum in multiculturalism should be required. Because the education component of multiculturalism is often subordinate to a trainee’s reluctance—or even inability—to confront the difficult concepts, it is necessary first to address the reluctance; hence, my thesis. Multiculturalism presented and discussed on an academic plane is more likely to assuage trainees’ fears and spur them to cultural competence. …

Impact Of Workplace Ostracism, Moderated By Personality Traits On Psychological Safety, Aniko Rastovac Feb 2026

Impact Of Workplace Ostracism, Moderated By Personality Traits On Psychological Safety, Aniko Rastovac

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Psychological safety, an essential element for fostering collaboration, trust, and innovation, can be undermined by negative interactions in the workplace. Most importantly, a lack of psychological safety is a barrier to individual and organizational growth, development, and innovation, which is necessary for gaining a competitive organizational advantage. The present study examines the concept of workplace ostracism as a negative interaction in the workplace that affects psychological safety. Using the big five personality traits framework, Edmondson’s (1999) concept of psychological safety, and Tett et al.’s (2021) trait activation theory, this quantitative study examined how individual differences moderate the impact of workplace …

Fostering Healthy Work Environments With Nurse Manager Transition To Practice Program, Anastasia Y. Rose, Janelle Schira, Marja Ross Feb 2026

Fostering Healthy Work Environments With Nurse Manager Transition To Practice Program, Anastasia Y. Rose, Janelle Schira, Marja Ross

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Background: Healthy work environments need effective nursing leadership (Mabona et al., 2022). Many new nurse managers lack the skills and knowledge needed for leadership roles (Espinoza et al., 2009). Turnover of new nurse managers is high, which can have a negative impact on nurse retention and quality of care (Warden, 2021). Per a national survey, over 50% of nurse leaders intend to leave their positions within next 5 years (Warden, 2021). A new manager orientation and mentorship programs could impact their practice, retention, and quality indicators, improve job satisfaction, organizational culture, and patient outcomes, and foster a healthy work environment …

Creating Healthy Work Environments For New Bsn-Dnp Students Through A Student-Led Mentorship Program, Daniel W. Martin, Christopher H. Connors, Jocelyn Keaton, Todd Tussing

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Background: Graduate students experience unique stressors that affect the decision to complete their programs. These include acclimation to the graduate school environment, coursework, and life balance. Attrition rates between 2006-2015 for DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice) programs were 13.3-23.8% and 19.2% for BSN-DNP students with most dropping within 2 years. A possible solution to increased attrition could be to help decrease feelings of isolation and support student acclimation. Literature shows mentorship is an effective strategy for graduate nursing programs that results in decreased stress and anxiety, improvement in self-confidence, and improved adjustment to the educational environment. A student led peer …
