Wildlife Wetland Park: Restoring Natural Habitat Through Stormwater Management & Public Recreation Along The Fm Diversion, Sawyer Delp

Landscape Architecture Theses

Urban stormwater runoff is at an increasing rate due to climate change causing harmful chemicals and pollutants to drain into rivers and bodies of water. These pollutants are extremely harmful to the environment destroying habitat and biodiversity. This study will focus on strategies to mitigate the urban runoff flow that comes from streets, leading into rivers and bodies of water. The idea is to restore/implement an ecological infrastructure by constructing a wetland restoration park. Sustainable runoff management practices will allow for habitat restoration and stormwater management, meanwhile providing spaces for humans to connect with the land.

Lacking Clarity Or Strategic Ambiguity? Comment On “Competing Frames In Global Health Governance: An Analysis Of Stakeholder Influence On The Political Declaration On Non-Communicable Diseases”, Angela Carriedo, Kathrin Lauber, Margaret M. Miller, Rob Ralston

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

This commentary engages with Suzuki and colleagues’ analysis about the ambiguity of multi-stakeholder discourses in the United Nations (UN) Political Declaration of the 3rd High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly on the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (HLM-NCDs), suggesting that blurring between public and private sector in this declaration reflects broader debates about multi-stakeholder partnerships (MSPs) and public-private partnerships (PPPs) in health governance. We argue that the ambiguity between the roles and responsibilities of public and private actors involved may downplay the role (and regulation) of conflicts of interest (COI) between unhealthy commodity industries and public health. We argue …

Reciprocal Regulation Of Mitofusin 2-Mediated Mitophagy And Mitochondrial Fusion By Different Pink1 Phosphorylation Events, Jiajia Li, Xiawei Dang, Antonietta Franco, Gerald W Dorn

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Mitochondrial repair is essential to metabolic homeostasis. Outer mitochondrial membrane mitofusin (MFN) proteins orchestrate mitochondrial fusion that opposes mitochondrial degeneration caused by senescence. Depending upon physiological context, MFN2 can either mediate mitochondrial fusion or recruit cytosolic Parkin to initiate mitophagic elimination. Because it is not clear how these events are counter-regulated we engineered and expressed MFN2 mutants that mimic phosphorylated or non-phosphorylatable MFN2 at its PINK1 phosphorylation sites: T111, S378, and S442. By interrogating mitochondrial fusion, polarization status, and Parkin binding/mitophagy as a function of inferred MFN2 phosphorylation, we discovered that individual MFN2 phosphorylation events act as a biological "bar-code", …

SIGNIFICANCE: Existing screening tools for HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) are often clinically impractical for detecting milder forms of impairment. The formal diagnosis of HAND requires an assessment of both cognition and impairment in activities of daily living (ADL). To address the critical need for identifying patients who may have disability associated with HAND, we implemented a low-cost screening tool, the Virtual Driving Test (VDT) platform, in a vulnerable cohort of people with HIV (PWH). The VDT presents an opportunity to cost-effectively screen for milder forms of impairment while providing practical guidance for a cognitively demanding ADL.

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to: …
