Health Policy & Community Health: Faculty Publications
Background: Motorcycle accidents are a major cause of head injuries and the current study evaluated the beneficial impact and effectiveness of helmet usage among injured Motorcycle users. This study has been performed to observe the Motorcycle collisions within 6 months in Rawalpindi and Abbottabad cities of Pakistan
Objectives: Implications of helmet usage were assessed and the risk factors for severe injury during motorcycle accidents were identified.
Results: The multivariate analysis indicated that riders without a helmet were more likely to experience severe (AOR, 2.216; 95% CI, 2.02 to 10.5) or moderate injury (AOR, 1.215; 95% CI, 0.84 …

Defining And Detecting Toxicity On Social Media: Context And Knowledge Are Key, Amit Sheth, Valerie Shalin, Ugur Kursuncu

As the role of online platforms has become increasingly prominent for communication, toxic behaviors, such as cyberbullying and harassment, have been rampant in the last decade. On the other hand, online toxicity is multi-dimensional and sensitive in nature, which makes its detection challenging. As the impact of exposure to online toxicity can lead to serious implications for individuals and communities, reliable models and algorithms are required for detecting and understanding such communications. In this paper We define toxicity to provide a foundation drawing social theories. Then, we provide an approach that identifies multiple dimensions of toxicity and incorporates explicit knowledge …

They Are Just Light Bulbs, Right? The Personality Antecedents Of Household Energy-Saving Behavioral Intentions Among Young Millennials And Gen Z, Minhao Dai, Tianen Chen
Faculty Articles
Small individual behaviors such as household energy-saving behaviors may have major environmental impacts. Individuals may combat global warming by replacing traditional light bulbs with more energy-efficient light bulbs such as LED bulbs, which save electricity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Guided by the integrative model of behavioral prediction, the current study explored the effects of five individual personality differences (i.e., consideration of future consequences, environmental value orientation, individualism and collectivism, regulatory focus, and self-monitoring) on young Millennials' and Gen Z's attitudes, perceived norms, perceived control, and intention to switch light bulbs. The results of a survey indicated that environmental value …

Using information and communication technology (ICT) means communicating, creating, distributing and managing data. There is no sector of society that does not benefit from the use of information and communication technology. Covid-19 epidemic necessitates the repurposing of ICT systems intended for other distributed purposes to retain social connections, deliver distributed services, and fulfil corporate needs. Next to the IT field, the paradigm shift takes place in the medical field. During the pandemic situation, the usage of ICT tremendously increased in all departments of the medical field. In this situation, the research analyses women doctors' attitudes towards ICT and digital resources …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The advent of Information Communication Technology (ICT) has brought radical changes in all spheres of life in the way in which information is gathered, stored, organized, processed and consumed. The changing trend in ICT has also impacted the work and working pattern of libraries. This paper provides a meticulous review of literature on Impact and Usage of E-Resources. Reviewed the published literature during 2000 to 2019 those reviews reveal that the use of E-Resources i.e. E-Books, E-Journals, E-Theses, E-Databases, etc. are becoming very common in this new technological era. As the academic libraries are mainly used by the teachers, researchers …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Purpose
The significant purpose of conducting this research is to find out more about folksonomy-based services with the help of word cloud and tag cloud. Broader terms and narrower terms are searching on bibliographic records and linking web repositories. It shows the integration mechanism of the word cloud and tag cloud with ILS OPAC using Koha and HTML scripts. Designing and developing a process for easy retrieving of library resources based on folksonomy enabled services. These new innovative services are very much helpful for library users.
Methodology
This folksonomy-based integrated framework has been developed and designed based on global repositories. …

Understanding Coralline Algal Responses To Ocean Acidification: Meta‐Analysis And Synthesis, Ce Cornwall, Ben P. Harvey, Steeve Comeau, Dl Cornwall, Jason Hall‐Spencer, Viviana Peña, Shigeki Wada, Lucia Porzio
School of Biological and Marine Sciences
Ocean acidification (OA) is a major threat to the persistence of biogenic reefs throughout the world's ocean. Coralline algae are comprised of high magnesium calcite and have long been considered one of the most susceptible taxa to the negative impacts of OA. We summarize these impacts and explore the causes of variability in coralline algal responses using a review/qualitative assessment of all relevant literature, meta-analysis, quantitative assessment of critical responses, and a discussion of physiological mechanisms and directions for future research. We find that most coralline algae experienced reduced abundance, calcification rates, recruitment rates, and declines in pH within the …

Emerging Services For The Visually Impaired In Academic Libraries, Noor Abutayeh, Berta García-Orosa
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This study sought to investigate access services that are presented to visually impaired users in academic libraries. There is a clear lack of digital resources and assistive technology in serving disabled/blind users in both libraries. Based on Mann-Whitney U-test results and p-value, there were similarities in website and databases accessibility and significant differences in providing some types of digital materials to visually impaired users. It is recommended that libraries have to continually adapt to the constantly turning cycles of technology in terms of major technology trends such as open-source software, mobile technology, and voice-activated technology. The world needs to …

Intentional International Presence Of United Nation's Locations, Kelsea Nicole Duvall
ATU Theses and Dissertations 2021 - Present
The United Nations chose specific locations to house its main headquarters and major offices. While there are many smaller regional offices of the United Nations, this focuses only on the four main offices and the Hague, which houses the International Court of Justice. The different locations of New York, the Hague, Geneva, Vienna, and Nairobi were chosen over a time period of fifty years with New York, the first permanent location, chosen in 1946, and Nairobi, the most recent addition, finalized in 1996. The locations were not chosen purely because of monetary concerns but because they met specific qualifications set …
