Executive Leadership System Improvement Program Proposal For Capturing At-Risk Patients In A Primary Care Setting, Winter Wilson Feb 2026

Executive Leadership System Improvement Program Proposal For Capturing At-Risk Patients In A Primary Care Setting, Winter Wilson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Unmet social determinants of health (SDOH) contribute significantly to poor health outcomes, increased healthcare utilization, and persistent inequities in access to care. In a primary care organization, the inconsistent identification and management of patients’ social needs resulted in variable documentation, limited referrals to social work services, and avoidable emergency department (ED) utilization. The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was to develop an executive leadership systems implementation proposal to standardize the identification and referral of at-risk patients through the integration of a validated social needs screening tool into the electronic health record (EHR). The guiding practice-focused question …

The Impact Of Face Masks On Social Perception Is Age-Dependent, Farid Pazhoohi, Maryam Rostami-Aghoui, Sepide Pazhouhi, Keina Aoki, Alan Kingstone

School of Psychology

Human faces are critical for social communication, enabling individuals to make rapid judgments about traits like trustworthiness and competence. Previous research suggests that face masks can enhance perceptions of trustworthiness and, to a lesser extent, competence, although findings on competence are more variable and context-dependent. Additionally, age-related facial cues influence social judgments, with older and younger faces being evaluated differently. This research examined the impact of face masks on perceptions of trustworthiness and competence across two age groups: young adults (Study 1) and old adults (Study 2). Study 1 revealed that face masks increased perceptions of trustworthiness and competence for …

Development And Diffusion Of The Social Capital Index (Soci), Dean Kyne, Daniel P. Aldrich, Dominic Kyei Feb 2026

Development And Diffusion Of The Social Capital Index (Soci), Dean Kyne, Daniel P. Aldrich, Dominic Kyei

Sociology Faculty Publications

Social capital influences community disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. In 2020, Kyne and Aldrich introduced the Social Capital Index (SoCI), a pioneering, publicly available county-level measure capturing bonding, bridging, and linking social capital across the United States. Since then, the SoCI has been widely adopted across disciplines and applied in diverse research contexts. Five years later, emerging theoretical developments and expanded data availability offer an opportunity to reassess its diffusion and strengthen its methodological foundations. This study addresses three objectives: (1) revisiting the conceptual roots that informed the original index, (2) examining its diffusion through citation and co-citation analyses of …

Model Free Sliding Mode Control For Uavs, Aashrita Mandalapu Feb 2026

Model Free Sliding Mode Control For Uavs, Aashrita Mandalapu

Theses

Sliding Mode Control (SMC) is a robust and adaptable control strategy recognized for its ability to withstand uncertainties, disturbances, and parameter variations. Although the straightforward implementation of SMC along with its insensitivity to modeling inaccuracies make it effective for a wide range of applications, it still relies heavily on an accurate system model. In dynamic environments where system characteristics vary over time, a model-independent SMC framework becomes necessary. So, a Model-Free Sliding Mode Control (MFSMC) approach is proposed as a compelling solution for complex nonlinear systems where deriving an accurate model is difficult. In contrast to conventional SMC approach, MFSMC …

Cell-Cell Communication As Underlying Principle Governing Color Pattern Formation In Teleost Fishes, Marleen Klann, Lila Solnica-Krezel, Et Al. Feb 2026

Cell-Cell Communication As Underlying Principle Governing Color Pattern Formation In Teleost Fishes, Marleen Klann, Lila Solnica-Krezel, Et Al.

2020-Current year OA Pubs

The diverse pigmentation patterns of animals are crucial for predation avoidance and behavioral display. This diversity arises from interactions among distinct pigment cell types, yet mechanisms generating pattern variation across teleost fishes remain incompletely understood. In zebrafish, Turing models have been proposed to explain stripe patterns, but it is unclear if they apply to other fishes. Here, we investigate the Snowflake mutant of the anemonefish Amphiprion ocellaris, which displays enlarged white bars with irregular boundaries. Using genome-wide association mapping and targeted sequencing, we identify a missense mutation (E42K) in gja5b, encoding the gap junction protein Connexin 41.8. CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing …

Beyond Subsidies And Mandates: Testing A Simple Behavioral Mechanism To Drive Health Insurance Coverage, Wendy Netter Epstein, Hansoo Ko, Christopher Robertson, Kevin Wilson, David Yokum Feb 2026

Beyond Subsidies And Mandates: Testing A Simple Behavioral Mechanism To Drive Health Insurance Coverage, Wendy Netter Epstein, Hansoo Ko, Christopher Robertson, Kevin Wilson, David Yokum

Faculty Scholarship

Uninsured individuals face reduced access to care, financial risk, and higher mortality. Although public programs and private subsidies have lowered uninsurance, these mechanisms remain incomplete and politically unstable. We evaluate whether a low-cost outreach intervention can increase health insurance enrollment without altering plan prices. Using a randomized field experiment involving 16,477 uninsured Maryland households, we assigned households to a no-contact control or to receive email and postcard outreach featuring affordability messaging alone or combined with responsibility or community framings. Outreach increased qualified health plan enrollment by 0.699 percentage points and total coverage by 0.967 percentage points relative to control. The …

Advances In Understanding Multimodal Ai Systems, Monika Shah Feb 2026

Advances In Understanding Multimodal Ai Systems, Monika Shah

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Multimodal AI systems integrate computer vision, natural language processing, and knowledge representation. While deep learning has made immense advances in tasks such as Visual Captioning (VC) and Visual Question Answering (VQA), it is hard to decipher knowledge encoded within these models to verify, evaluate and explain the behavior of these models. In this dissertation, we propose to i) develop a probabilistic framework to evaluate uncertainty in captioning models using Markov Logic Networks (MLNs), a well-known statistical relational model ii) disentangle knowledge grained in fine-tuning from preexisting knowledge encoded in pre-trained captioning models using a Neuro-Symbolic extension of MLNs called Hybrid …

Peer-Led Community Interventions Can Reduce Bronchiolitis Hospital Admissions By Influencing Parental Health-Seeking Behaviour, Danielle Edge, Ruth Kearns-Smith Feb 2026

Peer-Led Community Interventions Can Reduce Bronchiolitis Hospital Admissions By Influencing Parental Health-Seeking Behaviour, Danielle Edge, Ruth Kearns-Smith

School of Nursing and Midwifery

ContextBronchiolitis is a leading cause of infant hospital admission, placing seasonal pressure on paediatric services. Admission rates vary widely and are strongly associated with socioeconomic deprivation, reflecting differences in disease burden and healthcare utilisation.1 Despite rising admissions, PICU admissions have remained stable, indicating no increase in disease severity.1 Hospitalisation is therefore not inevitable and may reflect health-seeking behaviour. Evidence suggests that parental knowledge alone does not alter attendance, as these decisions are shaped by anxiety, perceived vulnerability and social norms.2 3 Parent champions have been proposed in bronchiolitis as an upstream intervention to address these influences.4 The study by Lee …

Optimizing Traffic Signal Timings Using Real Time Data Analytics, Hamad Abdulla Binsultan Feb 2026

Optimizing Traffic Signal Timings Using Real Time Data Analytics, Hamad Abdulla Binsultan

Theses

City traffic jams have become a major challenge for contemporary cities, causing delays, increased fuel consumption, and other environmental impacts. Conventional traffic signal controlling systems usually depend on fixed or preset signal plans that are incompetent to adjust themselves with changing traffic conditions. Traffic signal timings are optimized across the intersection health of the system by processing real-time data analytics. Through real-time data analytics, traffic flow efficiency is improved while waiting time at signalized intersections is reduced. Using traffic real-time data like vehicle counts, vehicle types, time of day and day of the week to see howtraffic behaves under different …

Finding The Major Questions Doctrine, Chad Squitieri Feb 2026

Finding The Major Questions Doctrine, Chad Squitieri

Pepperdine Law Review

The major questions doctrine has been invoked primarily in the rulemaking context, where it requires agencies to identify particularly clear statutory authority before promulgating rules of “major” importance. Some scholars have suggested that the doctrine is a tool that should be limited to agency actions that are purportedly “legislative” in nature (e.g., rulemakings)—meaning the doctrine would not apply in other contexts, such as agency adjudications and enforce-ment actions that may not be similarly “legislative.” This Essay responds by arguing that the major questions doctrine is best understood as a limit on executive authority—meaning the doctrine could apply across a wider …

The Market Theology Of The Early Church: Some Theological Contributions To The Dismal Science, Jacob Sheldon Feiser Feb 2026

The Market Theology Of The Early Church: Some Theological Contributions To The Dismal Science, Jacob Sheldon Feiser

Journal of Religion and Business Ethics

This Article seeks to make three modest contributions. First, this Article serves to correct a failed historiography of the early church. While no patristic scholar argues that the early church professed a sort of proto-communism, other disciplines, namely, economics and business, perpetuate a misapprehension of how the early church thought about property and markets. Second, this Article offers an intellectual survey of both Ante-Nicaean and Nicaean/Post-Nicaean church fathers on property and markets. Through this survey, this Article seeks to demonstrate a general theme of the acceptance of private property, capital accumulation, market exchange, and arbitrage. Finally, this Article supports two …
