Opportunistic Data Network Selection For User Equipment With Multiple Subscriber Identification Module Cards, Sooraj Sasindran, Amruth Ramachandran
Defensive Publications Series
A user equipment (UE) includes multiple subscriber identification module (SIM) cards to connect to different networks, including any available opportunistic data network. To support connection to 5G opportunistic data networks, the UE employs the primary network stack (the network stack associated with the primary SIM card) to connect to a 5G communications network (e.g., a 5G cellular network), and further employs the primary network stack to periodically scan for opportunistic data networks. In response to detecting a 5G opportunistic data network, the primary network stack transfers the 5G connection capability to a secondary network stack (a network stack associated with …

Virtual Assistant Device Arbitration By Time-Of-Flight Based On Hotword, Nicholas Jordan Sanders, Roy Winfield Huffman, Junior
Defensive Publications Series
When multiple devices that support a virtual assistant activated by an activation hotword are present in a particular location, the virtual assistant can trigger on more than one device when a user utters the hotword. There is no existing mechanism for accurate device arbitration. This can cause a device other than the one the user intended (e.g., nearest to the user or most suited to the command) to respond to the user request, leading to user frustration. This disclosure describes techniques to determine the relative proximity of each device to a user using audio propagation time from the user’s utterance …

Implementation Of Teach-Back For Discharge Teaching In A Critical Access Hospital: A Quality Improvement Project, Katie Beth Notch
Theses and Dissertations
A lack of comprehension of discharge instructions may cause high readmission and emergency room revisit rates for organizations. At the project site, there was no current evidence-based practice to ensure patient comprehension of discharge instructions. The purpose of this quantitative, quasi-experimental quality improvement project was to determine if the implementation of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Always Use Teach-Back Toolkit would impact emergency room revisit rates among adult medical-surgical patients in a critical access hospital in rural Minnesota over four weeks. Afaf Meleis’ transitions theory and the Iowa model for evidence-based practice were the scientific underpinnings of the project. …
The Path A Pilot Program Bringing The Hero S Journey To Occupational Therapy, Cole Milkovich, Susan Macdermott
The Path A Pilot Program Bringing The Hero S Journey To Occupational Therapy, Cole Milkovich, Susan Macdermott
Fall 2021 Virtual OTD Capstone Symposium
The "Hero’s Journey" is a powerful narrative therapy tool that uses the hero metaphor to help clients reframe their life circumstances (Robertson & Lawrence, 2015; Williams, 2017). However, this concept has only been utilized in the department of psychology. Occupational therapists utilize narrative reasoning to guide client-heroes through a rehabilitative rite of passage through the collaboration (Kelly, 2007). As mentors, clinicians assist client-heroes to create their stories that will be acted out to reflect their identity. Therefore, the therapeutic process aims to empower the client and enact a real positive storyline through meaningful occupation (Clark, 1993; Mattingly, 1998).
The challenge …

Background: Behavior, how one acts, influences occupation, the things one needs and wants to do. When a student struggles with the ability to regulate their behavior and actions, they are more likely to exhibit behaviors in the classroom that negatively impact their overall ability to participate in academic learning in the classroom (Walls & Rauner, 2015). Examples of these student behaviors include: Eloping from the classroom, yelling, tantrums, task refusal, physical and verbal aggression, standing on furniture, throwing materials, etc. Dealing with difficult student behaviors is difficult. This can impact a teacher’s ability to perform their responsibilities required of their …

The use of scientific web applications (SWApps) across biological and environmental sciences has grown exponentially over the past decades or so. Although quantitative evidence for such increased use in practice is scant, collectively, we have observed that these tools become more commonplace in teaching, outreach, and in science coproduction (e.g., as decision support tools). Despite the increased popularity of SWApps, researchers often receive little or no training in creating such tools. Although rolling out SWApps can be a relatively simple and quick process using modern, popular platforms like R shiny apps or Tableau dashboards, making them useful, usable, and sustainable …

Multicultural Considerations For Latinx And Latinx-American Children In Play Therapy, Andrea Carolina Guerrero León
Counselor Education Capstones
This paper is predominately focused on the exploration of the research available on play therapy and its efficacy with Latinx children. Play therapy is a counseling approach used to process behaviors and emotions in children through interactive play. There are several modalities to play, which all stem from Sigmund Freud’s landmark work with “Little Hans”; these modalities are applied to help children process issues in their lives. However, multicultural considerations have not always been traditionally present in the broader counseling community in the United States. Since the Latinx population is the fastest growing minority in the U.S. with rich, diverse …

The Relationship Between The Protean Career Attitude And Feedback After The Employee Promotion Process, Marcie Overstreet
The Relationship Between The Protean Career Attitude And Feedback After The Employee Promotion Process, Marcie Overstreet
Dissertations
The deterioration of the traditional organizational career model progressively challenges employees to manage their careers (Briscoe et al., 2006). Increasingly, individuals self-manage their careers, focusing on both professional and personal circumstances throughout a career (Li et al., 2019). Employees continue to pursue career advancement by developing their knowledge, skills, and competencies. While individuals seek career development pursuing more challenging and higher paying jobs, organizations also show interest in career development.
Organizations take an interest in the career growth of employees because career advancement leads to increased morale and productivity and reduced costs associated with employee turnover (Bowness, 2019). Increased morale …
Employees' Expectations Of Leadership Development Programs And Their Effects On Anticipated Voluntary Employee Turnover And Organizational Commitment, Candace Johnson
Employees' Expectations Of Leadership Development Programs And Their Effects On Anticipated Voluntary Employee Turnover And Organizational Commitment, Candace Johnson
Dissertations
Employee retention and commitment have gained attention over the past years (Mutsuddi, 2016). Commitment is the link that connects an individual to their organization, thereby decreases the probability of turnover (Allen & Meyer, 1990; Hague et al., 2019). According to Mutsuddi (2016), decreasing employee turnover remains a critical element for sustainment in any organization. However, most organizations invest in policies and practices to increase employee commitment; those same practices can lead to employee turnover (Mutsuddi, 2016). This study explores the effects of leadership development programs and their impact on organizational commitment and anticipated voluntary employee turnover. A qualitative research design …

Put The Pedal To The Metal: Exploring The Resources Of The Modern Electric Vibraphone, Andrew Dean Gilstrap
Put The Pedal To The Metal: Exploring The Resources Of The Modern Electric Vibraphone, Andrew Dean Gilstrap
Dissertations
ABSTRACT
The process of applying pickups to acoustic vibraphones began in the early twentieth century in order to provide means of amplification for live performances other than the use of microphones alone. Artists and innovators in the industry quickly realized the possibilities of adding effects, such as tremolo, reverb, delays, and other sound processing devices, to create a pallet of sounds not possible on an acoustic vibraphone. This concept applied to modern signal routing, yields a copious amount of sonic possibilities, extending the creative universe of the performer.
Due to the amount of technology involved with the electric vibraphone, it …

Analyzing And Detecting Android Malware And Deepfake, Md Shohel Rana
Dissertations
Rapid advances in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL) over the past several decades have produced a variety of technologies and tools that, among numerous cybersecurity issues, have enticed cybercriminals and hackers to design malware for the Android operating systems and/or manipulate multimedia. For example, high-quality and realistic fake videos, images, or audios have been created to spread misinformation and propaganda, foment political discord and hate, or even harass and blackmail people; these manipulated, high-quality and realistic videos became known recently as Deepfake. There has been much work done in recent years on malware analysis and …

Walking Into A News Desert: How Arkansas College Newspapers Are Coping With The Decline In Print Journalism, David Keith
Walking Into A News Desert: How Arkansas College Newspapers Are Coping With The Decline In Print Journalism, David Keith
Dissertations
News deserts is a reference to geographic areas — most commonly counties — where no newspaper is published. The number of these areas continues to grow as more newspapers shut their doors because of financial difficulties brought on by a lack of advertising, a lack of readers, and the shift to online news consumption. College students studying journalism find themselves on the cusp of entering a profession where the number of workplaces and jobs is shrinking. They know it and the advisers of their college newspapers know it. Even with this arid prospect before them, the students are reporting news …
An Exploration Of Black Church Leaders' Intentions To Develop Critical Consciousness Among African-American Students, Taheesha Quarells
An Exploration Of Black Church Leaders' Intentions To Develop Critical Consciousness Among African-American Students, Taheesha Quarells
Dissertations
African-American students experience human capital opportunity and achievement gaps. Researchers have called for culturally relevant strategies to help close the gaps. The historic Black Church, a part of many African-American students’ culture and community, is a historic and current source of social capital for positive human capital development outcomes. Critical consciousness develops positive human capital outcomes, such as academic achievement, in African-American and other minority students. Much of the literature on critical consciousness is quantitative in nature and therefore does not include the intentions or the willingness of organizations to develop critical consciousness. Therefore, there is a need to understand …
Sustainable Development Among Four–Year Higher Education Institutions In The United States: A Geographic And Anthropological Perspective, Kori Nadine Armstrong
Sustainable Development Among Four–Year Higher Education Institutions In The United States: A Geographic And Anthropological Perspective, Kori Nadine Armstrong
