An Educational Program For Nurses To Incorporate Spiritual Care Into Clinical Practice, Alicia J. Thomas

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Spiritual well-being is associated with several positive outcomes, including a greater tolerance of the emotional and physical demands of illness. Spiritual care is a basic element of holistic nursing, yet nurses generally lack spiritual care knowledge and abilities and are often unable to satisfy patients’ spiritual care needs. Therefore, nurses are in urgent need of relevant training to enhance their abilities to provide patients with spiritual care. Obesity is a public health epidemic and is as relevant in the pediatric population as it is in adults. The purpose of this DNP project was to develop a clinical practice guideline (CPG) that would use existing evidence to support the development of body mass index (BMI) screening in primary schools for the early detection of childhood obesity. Globally, more than 41 million children were obese or overweight by 2018. Due to incidence rates, developing an effective strategy to address childhood obesity is critical. The practice-focused question asked whether the evidence supported the development of a CPG for implementing BMI …

The Veteran Administration’S Appointment Scheduling Processes’ Effect On The Homeless Women Veteran’S Phenomenon, Vicki Ann Thompson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Concealed numbers of homeless women veterans could be exposed in the Veterans Administration (VA) appointment scheduling data. The challenges of scheduling healthcare or mental health appointments with the VA could prevent homeless women veterans from gaining access. Studies have shown the problems that male veterans have with scheduling appointments. However, not much research exists on the issues homeless female veterans face in scheduling appointments with the VA. This quantitative study examined the correlation between the number of women and men veterans on the VA’s electronic wait list and the percentages of unsheltered women and men veterans at the Continuum of …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Complex posttraumatic stress disorder is a very serious mental health condition with long-term side effects that impact a victim’s quality of life. Many studies have been conducted that explore various aspects of complex posttraumatic stress disorder. However, there is a gap in research exploring the role of attachment trauma in the development of self-concept for complex posttraumatic stress disorder victims. This gap is relevant because treatment of this population has been decisively limited and attachment trauma has been found to be a correlate among many psychiatric groups. By identifying how attachment trauma develops self-concept, researchers and clinicians can be better …

School Counselors’ Lived Experiences Working With Northeastern Urban Minority High School Students, Lisette Ann Velez Jan 2022

School Counselors’ Lived Experiences Working With Northeastern Urban Minority High School Students, Lisette Ann Velez

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Professional school counselors employed in low-income education communities have a large, diverse student population to service. Researchers have indicated that urban minority youth present more challenges in school than affluent students due to economic constraints and other related factors. School counseling members apply different skills or techniques mastered from their graduate and professional training regardless of existing inequalities. School counselors are ethically obligated to help minors attain academic success, social-emotional development, and postsecondary goals. The dearth of literature warrants more qualitative research studies to explore further the phenomenon of school counselors working in underprivileged neighborhoods. Husserl’s transcendental phenomenological framework provided …
