Stock Market Price Prediction Using Big Data Models Comparison Analysis, Vibhor Pal

Shelby Hall Graduate Research Forum Posters

The stock market consists of complex financial datasets, and achieving stock price real time prediction needs an efficient big data framework for processing. This paper compares big data distributed data processing frameworks for forecasting stock prices using Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) - Apache Flink and Apache Spark. We analyze 70 publicly traded companies’ monthly data for the last 5 years from Yahoo Finance, ranked by Price-to-Earnings (P/E). In the companies’ datasets, there may be a connection or similarity between companies, and this can lead to similar stocks’ price behavior. These interfirm relationships are maintained by GNNs models, and their output …

Evaluating Software-Based Hardware Abstraction As A Fault Injection Countermeasure, Tristan Clark, J. Todd Mcdonald Mar 2026

Evaluating Software-Based Hardware Abstraction As A Fault Injection Countermeasure, Tristan Clark, J. Todd Mcdonald

Shelby Hall Graduate Research Forum Posters

Despite how theoretically secure a system may be, it can be compromised if an adversary has physical access to the device. This can be done by injecting hardware corruptions directly into the physical system, which is called a fault injection (FI) attack. To combat this, there is a need for robust fault-tolerant countermeasures. One such countermeasure is obfuscating the program to introduce redundancy and complexity, particularly through software-based hardware abstraction (SBHA).

This research proposes using SBHA as a countermeasure to fault injection attacks. By transforming point-function password programs, the proposed countermeasure aims to increase the difficulty of conducting successful FI …

Shelby Hall Graduate Research Forum Posters

With the rise of cyber threats, cybersecurity continues to play a critical role in the ever-changing landscape of technology by protecting and defending against threat agents. Our research applies novel machine learning (ML)techniques to detect network intrusions effectively. Our primary focus is to extend prior research, which has used network flows that are processed by a nonlinear phase space algorithm (NLPSA). The NLSPA approach has proven extremely effective in detecting anomalous or malicious traffic patterns on representative data but requires extensive training time.

Our contribution integrates deep learning into the anomaly detection approach by creating image-based representations of the adjacency …

Calibration Of Time-Domain Impedance Probe (Tdip) To Investigate Space Plasma Dynamics During Periods Of Ionospheric Instability, Piyas Chowdhury, Soumyajit Dey, Edmund A. Spencer Mar 2026

Calibration Of Time-Domain Impedance Probe (Tdip) To Investigate Space Plasma Dynamics During Periods Of Ionospheric Instability, Piyas Chowdhury, Soumyajit Dey, Edmund A. Spencer

Shelby Hall Graduate Research Forum Posters

The traditional Plasma Impedance Probe (PIP) is popular for diagnosing parameters of the ionospheric plasma to study the space environment. However, the resolution of data measurements of existing PIP instruments, operating at higher frequencies, limits the analysis to studying the plasma features at electron scales. Studying plasma ion parameters is essential to understanding the ionospheric instability growth rates. This can only be accomplished by operating a diagnosing instrument at lower frequencies corresponding to ion scales. A recently developed Time Domain Impedance Probe (TDIP) is implementable for fast moving spacecraft using a time domain approach. The instrument has higher measurement resolution …

Montana Residents’ Attitudes Towards Tourism – 2025, Carter Bermingham, Megan Schultz, Jayce Beck

Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research Publications

Montana residents maintain a broadly positive outlook on tourism, with 66% agreeing that tourism's benefits outweigh its drawbacks and 72% recognizing the economic value of state-supported tourism promotion. However, resident sentiment remains nuanced: 45% report concerns about overcrowding, and fewer than half (36%) believe increased tourism would improve their personal quality of life — a trend consistent across four consecutive years.

Regional divides are pronounced. Communities near high-visitation destinations such as Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park express greater skepticism toward tourism growth, while lower-visitation regions, including Central Montana, Southeast Montana, and Missouri River Country, hold more favorable views …

Creating A News Literate Journalism: A Metacognitive Model For Journalism Practice, Patrick R. Johnson

College of Communication Faculty Research and Publications

This article introduces News Literate Journalism, a metacognitive approach that redefines news literacy as a professional competency. Drawing on interviews with 30 journalists and grounded in news literacy and educational psychology, I argue that ethical, adaptive journalism relies on reflection, regulation and critical reasoning. These behaviors, though embedded in journalistic routines, are often overlooked. The approach presents a new framework for journalism education and practice, one that promotes transparency, fosters trust and supports democratic resilience.

Clemastine Ameliorates Cognitive Deficits In An Experimental Rat Model Of Chronic Cerebral Hypoperfusion, Xuemei Zong, Zhihai Huang, Fanfei Kong, Yu Feng, Yulan Zhang, Peibin Zou, Hung Wen Lin, David C Hess, Quanguang Zhang

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) profoundly affects patient well-being and has been proposed as a risk factor for cognitive impairment and dementia. However, due to the limited understanding of the pathophysiology of CCH, there are currently no effective preventive or therapeutic approaches for CCH-associated cognitive impairment. Therefore, identifying new targets for CCH is essential to bridge this knowledge gap. In this study, we sought to determine whether enhanced myelination could prevent cognitive impairment associated with CCH. Experimental CCH was induced via bilateral common carotid artery occlusion (BCCAO) in rats, and clemastine, a well-established pro-myelinating agent, was administered to boost myelin renewal. …

Beyond Short Microhomologies: Mismatch-Compatible Pol Θ-Mediated Dna Damage Repair, Yuzhen Li, Richard D Wood Mar 2026

Beyond Short Microhomologies: Mismatch-Compatible Pol Θ-Mediated Dna Damage Repair, Yuzhen Li, Richard D Wood

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

DNA polymerase θ (Pol θ)-mediated end-joining (TMEJ), one of several pathways for repairing DNA double-strand breaks, is traditionally thought to initiate via anchoring at short, consecutive, and perfectly matched microhomologies (MHs). Emerging evidence indicates that Pol θ can utilize MHs containing mismatches both in vitro and in vivo. This revised definition of MH provides a mechanistic explanation for a broader spectrum of Pol θ-dependent repair outcomes. Here, we summarize recent findings on the revised definition of MHs utilized by Pol θ, assess the applicability of this concept across species, and compare TMEJ with other (micro)hom(e)ology-mediated repair pathways. We explore how …

Frontotemporal Network Interactions Causally Support Rapid Concreteness Judgments During Reading, Elliot Murphy, Oscar Woolnough, Cale W Morse, Xavier Scherschligt, Nitin Tandon

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Neurobiological models of conceptual processing have been limited in spatiotemporal resolution, and uncertainty remains about the causal role of specific regions in concept representation. We utilized intracranial recordings in human neurosurgical patients with epilepsy (n = 19) during a concreteness judgement paradigm of single word reading. Concrete concepts showed greater high-frequency activation across a frontal and ventrotemporal network, while greater activation for abstract words was found in lateral posterior middle temporal cortex. Intercortical communications, measured by high-frequency partial direct coherence, revealed bidirectional frontal and ventral plus lateral temporal interactions. Words occupying the middle range of the concreteness scale (e.g., "profit") …

Reliving 10 Years Old: Descriptive Insights Into Retro Gaming, Nick Ballou, Nick Bowman, T. Hakman, Andrew Przybylski

Media Studies - All Scholarship

As video games and players age, some are drawn to retro titles, operationalized here as games from the 1970s–early 2000s. This trend has sparked growing interest among researchers and the games industry in areas such as consumer behavior, nostalgia, and well-being. However, little is known about naturalistic retro gaming—who plays them, and what time periods players revisit. We analyze 1,099 players’ logged session histories on Nintendo Switch classic consoles (e.g., Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64), totaling 13,000 hr. We find that retro gaming increases with age until around 40; that people tend to revisit consoles popular when they were 5–13 …

Driver Behavior Analyzer 2.0: A Modular Framework For Interpretable Driver Safety Analysis From Obd-Ii And Gps Telemetry, Sangwhan Cha, Venkata Sundar Kamesh Durvasula

Harrisburg University Other Works

Driver behavior analysis plays a central role in advancing road safety and enabling data-driven driver feedback. Although commercial telematics platforms offer sophisticated analytics, they are frequently expensive, proprietary, and optimized for enterprise-scale use. At the same time, low-cost On-Board Diagnostics II (OBD-II) adapters make telemetry collection widely accessible, but they typically do not provide higher-level behavioral interpretation.

In this paper, we present Driver Behavior Analyzer 2.0 (DBA 2.0), an offline-first, modular analytics framework that converts OBD-II and GPS telemetry into interpretable safety insights. DBA 2.0 supports ingestion of telemetry logs in CSV and JSON formats, data normalization, rule-based detection of …

Improving Cellular Retention And Distribution To Promote Arteriogenesis In A Mouse Model Of Chronic Arterial Occlusion, Nancy Huang Mar 2026

Improving Cellular Retention And Distribution To Promote Arteriogenesis In A Mouse Model Of Chronic Arterial Occlusion, Nancy Huang

Biomedical Engineering

Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease (PAOD) affects millions of people in the United States, creating pain, discomfort, and limited mobility due to restricted blood flow from obstructed arteries. While current treatments include lifestyle changes and revascularization procedures, these options are often insufficient or inaccessible because of procedural pain and socioeconomic barriers. In some cases, this can lead to critical limb ischemia and amputation as a last resort. Increasing blood flow to the extremities by enhancing collateral vessel growth, a biological process called arteriogenesis, with cell-based therapies can redirect blood flow around obstructions and has potential to mitigate and treat the effects …
