Practice Readiness In Occupational Therapy Graduates From A Bachelor's Training Program: A Multi-Stakeholder Study In Taiwan, Kuan-Yi Li, Chi-Min Yang, Chi-Hsuan Chen, Rou-Shayn Chen, Hsiang-Han Huang
Journal of Medical Education
Introduction: The transition from academic education to clinical practice is a critical challenge for new occupational therapy (OT) graduates. While most Western countries have adopted master's or doctoral entry-level into the profession, bachelor's-level OT training remains the mainstream in Asia. This raises questions about whether such programs adequately prepare graduates for today's complex clinical environments. This study examined the preparedness of OT graduates under bachelor-level training by exploring the alignment between educational experiences and workplace expectations from the perspectives of multiple stakeholders.
Methods: A total of 547 respondents, including recent graduates, clinical educators, practicing occupational therapists, and heads of occupational …

The Impact Of Non-Technical Skills On Respiratory Therapists' Practice: A Single-Center Study At A Tertiary Hospital In Saudi Arabia, Mohamad A. Abdulsamad, Fadi A. Toonsi
Journal of Medical Rehabilitation Science
Background: Non-technical skills (NTS), including communication, teamwork, decision-making, and situational awareness, are increasingly recognized as essential for patient safety and effective healthcare delivery. Respiratory therapists (RTs) at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSH&RC) frequently face high-stakes clinical situations where NTS are critical, yet limited evidence exists regarding their integration into practice and training. This study evaluated the impact of NTS on RT practice, identified key skill gaps, and proposed recommendations for curriculum enhancement. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 50 RTs with at least six months of experience at KFSH&RC in Jeddah city. Data were collected using …

Transgender rights have increasingly come under assault in the United States. As of early 2026, twenty-seven states have passed either bans or restrictions on access to gender-affirming care. The issue has also become a central focus at the federal level. The U.S. Supreme Court decided United States v. Skrmetti, a case concerning the legality of state restrictions on gender-affirming care, in the 2024 – 2025 term. Moreover, the second Trump administration has been clear that rolling back transgender rights, including access to gender-affirming care, is a priority. In this political environment, where access to gender-affirming care in the United States …

National Security, Macroeconomic Stability, And The Future Of Nigeria's Development: Policy Priorities In A Volatile Global Environment, Suleiman Yusuf Usman Mr.
National Security, Macroeconomic Stability, And The Future Of Nigeria's Development: Policy Priorities In A Volatile Global Environment, Suleiman Yusuf Usman Mr.
Bullion
Nigeria confronts a dual crisis: escalating domestic insecurity and intensifying global geopolitical volatility. Rising insecurity undermines productive capacity, diverts fiscal resources, and erodes investor confidence, whilst external shocks—including policy pronouncements from major economies and geopolitical tensions—threaten capital flows, foreign exchange reserves, and macroeconomic stability. This article examines the economic and developmental implications of these intertwined pressures, evaluates their impact on monetary policy effectiveness and financial sector resilience, and presents actionable policy recommendations to strengthen governance, restore stability, and safeguard Nigeria's long-term development trajectory. The analysis emphasises the urgent need for coordinated fiscal and monetary responses, institutional reforms, and strategic repositioning …

The Circassian Woman In The Memoirs Of Russian Officers Serving In The Caucasus In The 19th Century, Ulkar Afandiyeva
Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
This article examines the depictions of Circassian women in the memoirs and observations of 19th-century Russian officers who served in the Caucasus, including Ivan Fyodorovich Blaramberg, Semyon Mikhailovich Bronevsky, Stepan Dmitrievich Nechayev, Karl Fyodorovich Stal, and Fyodor Fyodorovich Tornau. These officers not only described the physical appearance of Circassian women but also provided detailed accounts of their roles and positions within society. While the portrayals of their graceful physical features reflect the aesthetic ideals of the period, some narratives also highlight emotional intimacy and personal relationships with these women. The study aims to explore the image of Circassian women in …

Sympathetic Fibers Of The Right Phrenic Nerve Implicate A Role For Respiratory Modulation, Shelby K. Kuhnert, Alla Barry, Mary K. Kilmer, Farida Mehrhoff
Faculty and Staff Publications
This investigation utilized immunohistochemical analysis to study sympathetic catecholaminergic fibers within supradiaphragmatic and abdominal regions of the right phrenic nerve. The phrenic nerve consists of motor, sensory, and autonomic components and is the primary source of the diaphragm’s somatic motor and sensory innervation. The autonomic component contains sympathetic catecholaminergic fibers that vary by location. Despite extensive research, no clear understanding of the autonomic role of the phrenic nerve has been proposed. Knowledge of phrenic nerve morphology on a gross and histological scale is crucial to understanding its autonomic function and multifaceted impacts on the diaphragm, visceral organs, and mechanisms of …
Making Space To Learn: Prison-Less Places, Nicole Patrie
Making Space To Learn: Prison-Less Places, Nicole Patrie
Journal of Prison Education Research
Diversifying modalities or modes of program delivery inside prisons is necessary and important to increase access to programs; however, this also demands that learning is intended to occur in most places of a prison. In this paper I present the concept prison-less places, relational, temporary places where the prison is less noticeable and where learning becomes possible. Exploring three dimensions of learning, I argue that the existence of prison-less places brings balance to these dimensions and is crucial for learning to occur inside prisons. As the boundaries between program and prison space become more fluid and permeable with modalities …
A Tale Of Two Emigrations: Why The Pope Needs Protection From The United States, Laura Snyder
A Tale Of Two Emigrations: Why The Pope Needs Protection From The United States, Laura Snyder
Southern Illinois University Law Journal
From the late 18th until the early 20th century, emigrants to the United States (men) who returned to their country of origin for what was intended to be a brief visit could find themselves forced into military service. At first, the U.S. reaction was sporadic. However, with mounting calls for the country to take systemic action, after the Civil War the United States finally negotiated a series of treaties. Referred to as the “Bancroft Treaties,” they provided that, upon naturalization in one of the treaty countries, an emigrant would lose citizenship of their country of origin and thereby no longer …

“Faith As A Shield”: Challenging Religious Exemptions To Child Welfare Statutes In Response To Institutional Child Abuse, Shailey Mussey
Southern Illinois University Law Journal
This Note analyzes the role of religious exemptions in federal and state child welfare statutes in facilitating abuse within the Troubled Teen Industry (TTI), a loosely defined network of residential treatment programs, wilderness camps, and therapeutic boarding schools. Although religious exemptions were originally intended to safeguard religious liberty and parental rights, their statutory design has produced significant regulatory gaps that permit certain faith-affiliated institutions to operate with minimal oversight. By tracing the historical development of these exemptions and examining their contemporary application across multiple jurisdictions, this Note demonstrates how religious status can function as a shield against meaningful accountability. It …

Tau accumulates in a group of neurodegenerative diseases known as tauopathies. A prevailing hypothesis has been that Tau degradation is impaired due to an age-related imbalance in the autophagy-lysosome pathway, but whether these defects are a cause or consequence of Tau accumulation remains unclear. Here we show that a disease-causing mutation in the MAPT gene, which encodes Tau, p.R406W, is sufficient to disrupt multiple steps of the autophagy-lysosome pathway in human neurons. Using Airyscan super-resolution imaging, we find that mutant Tau neurons accumulate Tau and phosphorylated Tau in dysfunctional lysosomes, exhibit reduced lysosome motility, impaired fusion of autophagosomes and lysosomes, …

Introduction: Health professional academic programs require interprofessional education (IPE) to meet accreditation standards and better prepare students for collaborative patient care. The Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) includes the roles and responsibilities of the health professions as a key domain of IPE curricula. A learning module focusing on this domain was developed for an interprofessional introductory course involving 12 health professions. Adaptations to this module over time aimed to enhance content and student knowledge. Methods: Students were assigned to small interprofessional teams throughout the course and completed modules aligned with the IPEC core competencies. The first module highlighted roles and responsibilities. …

Purdue Early Childhood Competency Tool (Pecct): A Competency-Based Evaluation Tool For Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Education, Anne Gritt, Christi Masters
Purdue University Preschool Language Program
The Purdue Early Childhood Competency Tool (PECCT) was developed by speech-language pathology clinical faculty to support competency-based clinical education (supervision) and evaluation of graduate students during clinical practicum experiences with infants and young children from birth to age six. Grounded in the standards established by the Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CFCC), the PECCT aligns core professional competencies with skills specific to early childhood clinical practice. The tool is intended for clinical educators to evaluate student clinicians. Graduate students can also use the PECCT as a guide for self-reflection as they develop their clinical skills.

Neural Network-Based Energy Management System For Standalone Pv Systems With Hybrid Battery–Supercapacitor Storage, Muizzudin Saifulrehan, M Fakhizan Romlie
Platform: A Journal of Engineering (PAJE)
Standalone photovoltaic (PV) systems are essential for off-grid applications but suffer from solar intermittency, resulting in an unreliable power supply. Batteries are commonly integrated into PV systems to provide energy storage; however, they are less effective in handling rapid power fluctuations. To overcome this limitation, hybrid energy storage systems (HESS) combining batteries and supercapacitors are employed to utilise their complementary characteristics. This study proposes a neural network-based energy management system (EMS) for standalone PV systems using a hybrid battery-supercapacitor HESS. The objectives are to develop a neural network-based controller for optimal power sharing between battery and supercapacitor, and to evaluate …

Interprofessional Academy of Educators Spotlight on Scholarship
Simulation has been shown to be an effective learning modality that can be used to assess competency and clinical judgment. Immersive Virtual Reality (IVR) has revolutionized simulation across various fields. By creating highly realistic and interactive environments, IVR allows users to experience scenarios that would be difficult, dangerous, or impossible to replicate in real life. This is a tremendous advantage to preparing our student nurses for today’s challenging workforce. There are several different types of IVR including faculty moderated and independent IVR with drop down menus with both having limitations. The purpose of this pilot study is to compare cost …

Introduction: Patients with Non-English Language Preference (NELP) are at risk for communication barriers and health disparities. Studies have shown that clinicians who receive training on language barriers and interpreter use are more likely to utilize professional interpretation services. Research question or hypothesis: Providing pharmacy students with an opportunity to practice working with an interpreter in a simulation will improve their confidence in this skill. Study design: The objective of the study is to create an innovative simulation lab and describe its impact in the didactic curriculum for pharmacy students to practice communicating with an interpreter. Interprofessional Academy of Educators Spotlight on Scholarship
Providing engaging and equitable learning experiences across geographically separated campuses remains an ongoing challenge in health professions education. This educational innovation describes the implementation of holographic (“holobox”) instruction across pre-recorded and live delivery formats within a multi-campus Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) curriculum, with preliminary evaluation of learner engagement and feasibility. Through collaboration with UNMC's Interprofessional Experiential Center for Enduring Learning (iEXCEL), holobox-supported instruction was integrated into learning activities for 63 second-year DPT learners across two campuses. A pre-recorded holographic lecture addressed outcome measure selection, psychometric properties, and database use, delivered simultaneously with faculty facilitators in each location. A separate …

While nursing shortages are increasing and nurses are reporting higher rates of burnout and job-related stress, it is critical that educators in pre-licensure nursing programs identify strategies to better prepare novice nurses for entering the workforce. Using Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory as a framework, this study sought to investigate whether a senior clinical practicum experience increases general and nursing competence self-efficacy, which may indicate better ability to cope in the face of adversity. This study was a quantitative one-group pretest-posttest design, investigating undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students from accredited institutions in Kentucky. Results suggest that the clinical …
Progress On The Sustainable Development Goals In Asia Requires Ambitious Climate Targets Combined With Sustainability-Focused Measures, Pu Wang
Double Helix Methodology
Asian countries face the dual challenge of fulfilling ambitious climate commitments under the Paris Agreement while simultaneously advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study develops an integrated analytical framework that links decarbonization pathways with SDG indicators across energy, air quality, health, and the food-water-land nexus, as well as policy cost-effectiveness, explicitly incorporating national circumstances. Our findings indicate that current climate pledges primarily deliver gains in SDG indicators related to energy and air quality. Achieving broader progress across other SDG dimensions requires combining more ambitious climate targets with diverse, sustainability-oriented mitigation measures tailored to domestic contexts. Middle- and …
Moving Forward While Swaying Left And Right: How To Govern National Innovation Systems-Catalysed Innovation Ecosystems?, Jiang Yu
Double Helix Methodology
There is a burgeoning literature arguing that addressing grand challenges, such as de-globalization, requires a set of complementary actors to build innovation ecosystems (IE), which are also strategically integrated into the national innovation system (NIS). We conceptualize this specific systemic phenomenon as a new type of IE—NIS-catalysed IE—whose sustainable growth is said to be constantly hindered by dependent yet opposing tensions. The current literature provides fruitful insights into governing paradoxical tensions; however, some taken-for-granted theoretical assumptions within it are problematic when examining the relationship between salient paradoxes embodied in NIS-catalysed IE and effective governance mechanisms. Drawing on a single longitudinal …
