Elucidating The Role Of The Gastrointestinal Microbiome And Diet In Dopamine Release In Relation To Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder., Meaghan Mcdonald

Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)

Currently affecting 340-580 million people worldwide, ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects how the brain controls attention, behaviour and impulses often beginning in childhood and continuing into adulthood. ADHD is known to be associated with monoamine neurotransmitters including dopamine. This work aims to uncover the ways in which metabolism of monoamine precursors in the gastrointestinal microbiome influences dopamine release in the brain. Previous studies have indicated that children with ADHD display distinct gut bacteria profiles with unique microbiota species that result in the disruption of monoamine precursor pathways of phenylalanine and tyrosine metabolism. Emphasis on our western diet and …

Journal of Arts and Social Sciences

Social insurance is a basic support of development in society. It guarantees the citizen’s safety and psychological, social and economic stability through highly efficient and effective institutional performance that keeps up with social, economic and technical developments. It is worth noting that the insurance industry cannot develop in an environment where the insurance culture is absent among its members. Despite the great efforts made by the Public Authority for Social Insurance in spreading insurance awareness, the actual reality indicates that individuals have little knowledge of insurance. Therefore, this study aims to present a proposed program for the development of insurance …

Virtual Rape In Indonesian Criminal Law: Legal Reality Or Conceptual Challenge?, Moh. Raihan Rizaldi Sutran

Indonesia Law Review

Current technological developments have brought humanity into a new era called the metaverse, a virtual world that allows people to interact through digital avatars. However, this progress has also presented new problems, one of which is virtual rape – rape committed by players through their avatars. Even though there is no direct physical contact, victims can still experience real psychological effects such as trauma, anxiety, and fear. The main problem is there are no regulations in Indonesia that can address this phenomenon yet. Therefore, this article examines the extent to which the phenomenon of “virtual rape” can be considered equivalent …

From Dissent To Terrorism: The Formation Of A Security Grammar In Malaysia, Haezreena Begum Binti Abdul Hamid Dr Apr 2026

From Dissent To Terrorism: The Formation Of A Security Grammar In Malaysia, Haezreena Begum Binti Abdul Hamid Dr

Indonesia Law Review

The absence of a universally accepted definition of terrorism has enabled states to exercise wide discretion in naming, governing, and exceptionalising violence. This article argues that, in Malaysia, “terrorism” did not emerge as a neutral legal category but as the product of a historically evolving security grammar, a patterned way of interpreting ideology, dissent, and conflict through the lens of existential threat. Employing a qualitative doctrinal socio-legal methodology, the study integrates analysis of international and Malaysian legal frameworks with case-based examination of key episodes, including Memali, Al-Arqam, Al-Ma’unah, Lahad Datu, and ISIS-linked incidents. Statutes, judicial decisions, policy materials, and regional …

Bilingual and Literacy Studies Faculty Publications

The purpose of this article is to present a methodological extension to video-cued ethnography, a qualitative approach that combines ethnography with a stimulus video to conduct focus groups, and share methodological insights drawn from our experience. In this extension, we center the knowledge of Latine immigrant parents and create dialogic opportunities between parents and teachers. We illustrate how the extension works by presenting a study that explores if and how this dialogical experience shapes bilingual/ESL teachers’ ideas and attitudes towards parents as educational partners. We share data samples that demonstrate an emerging process of conscientization through markers of humanization, such …

Between Care And Compliance: A Mixed-Methods Examination Of Social Workers' Perspectives On Behavior Contracts In Healthcare, Katelyn E. Murphy

Social Work Doctoral Dissertations

Behavior contracts are frequently used in healthcare environments to manage behaviors labeled as disruptive; however, their use presents many ethical, legal, and practical concerns. This mixed-methods study examined behavior contracts through a social work lens, with particular attention to their impact on patient-centered care, professional ethics, and the patient–provider relationship. Based on the Person-in-Environment theory and core bioethical principles, the quantitative aspect of the study assessed healthcare social workers’ attitudes regarding the ethical implications of behavior contracts and their alignment with patient-centered care. The study looked further at how these perceptions differed based on years of professional experience as a …

Liquid Modernity Off-Modernity: A Pop-Up Interior In The Middle Of Nowhere, Ayman Kassem Apr 2026

Liquid Modernity Off-Modernity: A Pop-Up Interior In The Middle Of Nowhere, Ayman Kassem

ARSNET

This visual essay examines the pop-up desert café as a contemporary interior condition shaped by mobility, reversibility, and performative occupation. Framed through Bauman’s (2000) liquid modernity and Branzi’s (2002) diffuse modernity, it argues that temporary desert setups are not informal exceptions but design responses to unstable, event-based ways of living. The essay reads the pop-up as a hybrid interior-exterior assemblage, where carpets, furniture, lighting, signage, and social rituals produce atmosphere and collective presence. Using collages on photography taken by the author-co-created with architect Moustafa Abdulwahed—as a method, the visual essay journey moves from photographic observation to extraction and speculative recomposition, …

Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)

This project explores “play” as a creative and meaningful approach to communication in nonprofit work. As a Marketing and Development Intern at Overcomers International Fellowship Dream Center, I share stories of men rebuilding their lives after addiction and hardship, using creativity to bridge struggle and hope. Through storytelling, campaigns, and engagement, I have learned that communication can foster empathy, dignity, and connection. This experience has reshaped my understanding of play as an intentional, faith-driven practice. It reflects my growth as a communicator and my commitment to using creativity in the service of others and supporting transformational change.

Radical Hospitality, Da'sha Gray, Jacob Hadjiyanis, Valerie Partida, Ava Rech

Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)

As part of the community-engaged learning component of our Community Psychology course, our group partnered with the Benedictine Institute at CSB+SJU and St. Scholastica Convent in St. Cloud, Minnesota to explore the theme of radical hospitality. Across both sites, we examined how the Benedictine values including hospitality, respect for persons, listening, community living, and stability are lived out in everyday interactions. At the Benedictine Institute, we supported ‘Building Community’ events on Fridays that fostered connections among faculty and staff across roles and departments. We engaged in meaningful conversations with staff and monastic members about sustaining strong communities. At St. Scholastica, …

An Analysis Of A Family Of Root Finding Methods, Arabella Fuzak Apr 2026

An Analysis Of A Family Of Root Finding Methods, Arabella Fuzak

Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)

This thesis analyzes the behavior of a family of iterative root-finding methods, the Hansen-Patrick Family, which has a parameter, alpha, to create methods such as Newton’s methods, Halley’s method, and Euler’s method. By varying the parameter alpha, with both real and complex values, this project examines how the parameter can change convergence, divergence, and stability for different functions. This is shown by basin maps and Mandelbrot-like sets to visualize this behavior and classify points based on whether they converge to a root, diverge to infinity, or remain bounded without converging.

Mindfulness-Based Interventions To Improve Anxiety And Depression Outcomes In Adult Patients, Eunice Onyinye Nsofor Apr 2026

Mindfulness-Based Interventions To Improve Anxiety And Depression Outcomes In Adult Patients, Eunice Onyinye Nsofor

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Anxiety and depression are among the most prevalent mental health conditions and significantly affect quality of life, daily functioning, and healthcare utilization among adult patients. Despite strong evidence supporting mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) as effective nonpharmacologic approaches for managing anxiety and depression, these interventions remain underutilized in many clinical settings due to limited staff knowledge and inconsistent referral practices. The purpose of this evidence-based practice (EBP) project was to implement and evaluate a structured staff education program designed to improve staff knowledge of mindfulness-based interventions for adult patients with anxiety and depression. The practice-focused question examined whether staff education on MBIs …

Oer Workforce Review Rubric, Mary Rice Phd Apr 2026

Oer Workforce Review Rubric, Mary Rice Phd

Workforce Advisory Board

The OER Workforce Review Rubric is a structured evaluation framework designed to assess the extent to which Open Educational Resources (OER) support workforce development goals across educational and professional contexts. Grounded in workforce competencies identified by the U.S. Department of Labor, the rubric emphasizes transferable skills rather than discipline-specific knowledge. It evaluates materials across four core constructs: Planning Cycles, Professional Acumen, Communicating, and Next Generation Skills. Each construct measures the degree to which OER content embeds actionable strategies, real-world applicability, and opportunities for skill development relevant to modern workforce demands. Scoring ranges from peripheral to exceptional, with a threshold of …

Facsimiles, Russell Soh Apr 2026

Facsimiles, Russell Soh

Student Theses

An excerpt:

Hi Everyone, I’m currently in the process of organizing and sketching out a series of prose proems based on a small multitude of notes I’ve accrued over the last six months. These notes are essentially notes towards the writing of various poems (around 8). The idea is basically to turn these notes, or these would-be poems, into a series of abstracted ‘facsimiles’, like tangible ghosts trapped in a simulacrum of the poem. I need to be reacquainted with the prose poem, or at least my idea of it.

Wellness By Design: Leadership And Learning Practices For Well-Being In Arts Management, Ashleigh Olander Apr 2026

Wellness By Design: Leadership And Learning Practices For Well-Being In Arts Management, Ashleigh Olander

Student Theses

Leading with a culture of care is the art of wellness-based design. The arts are often seen as places for healing and community connection; however, arts institutions themselves frequently function in ways that undermine well-being. The systems in place do not promote wellness, nor do they dedicate resources to maintaining the vitality of staff. Wellness initiatives in the arts are ordinarily based on programming, rather than embedded into the foundation of the organization. Although engaging with the arts as a whole elevates wellness, it is challenging to find an arts institution designed with wellness practices in mind. There is a …
