Between The Excel Sheets And The Eight Counts: A Case-Study On Theatrical Production Management Through Dance On Campus, Madison Noud-Carroll May 2026

Between The Excel Sheets And The Eight Counts: A Case-Study On Theatrical Production Management Through Dance On Campus, Madison Noud-Carroll

Theses & ETDs

This thesis explores the role of Production Management in theater, synthesizing the literature on this topic with insight and reflection by way of a first person case study account. The case study is the New College of Florida's presentation of Dance on Campus, an event offered over consecutive dates at the Black Box Theater that brought together professional and student choreographers, lighting and costume designers, and student dancers. While Production Management has often been understood as a primarily administrative and logistical role, this thesis refines that understanding to emphasize facilitation, adaptive problem-solving, and the underlying need to sustain the systems …

Biblioteca: A Full-Stack Social Reading Platform For Spanish-Language Book Discovery And Community Engagement, Bilge Akyol May 2026

Biblioteca: A Full-Stack Social Reading Platform For Spanish-Language Book Discovery And Community Engagement, Bilge Akyol

Theses & ETDs

Social reading platforms combine book cataloging with social networking features, enabling users to engage with literary content and other readers. While global platforms such as Goodreads dominate the market, platforms that foster a community around a shared language and culture gain readers' interest by offering a meaningful experience. Despite the large Spanish-speaking audience, there is a lack of digital platforms that effectively cultivate this type of culturally cohesive community. Existing Spanish-language platforms often suffer from outdated interfaces, cluttered layouts, and limited user experience, which can reduce engagement. This thesis represents Biblioteca, a web application built with React, Typescript, and Supabase …

To accomplish this, I combined a literature review of key educational concepts with an internship at an elementary school, where I observed and participated in classroom instruction under the guidance of a mentor teacher. The literature review focuses on the foundational components of effective teaching in education, including, teacher responsibilities, classroom management, parent–teacher relationships, pedagogy …

Cognitive Crossroads : A Dual Task Validation Study, Saiyid "Ali" Shariq May 2026

Cognitive Crossroads : A Dual Task Validation Study, Saiyid "Ali" Shariq

Theses & ETDs

The modern environment places constant demands on human attention, yet cognitive capacity remains fundamentally limited. This study investigated whether combining a visual memory task with a concurrent auditory vigilance task in the Psychology Experiment Building Language (PEBL) platform would function as a valid dual-task paradigm capable of producing measurable divided-attention costs. Thirty college students (ages 18–22, M = 20.47) completed three counterbalanced conditions: a memory automaticity task, an auditory vigilance task requiring spacebar responses to irregularly timed tones, and a dual-task condition combining both. Reaction time and accuracy served as dependent measures, analyzed using four paired-samples t-tests. Results revealed significant …

The Dual Erosion Of Political Identity: Nationalism And Cosmopolitianism In Transition, Jaylen Turner May 2026

The Dual Erosion Of Political Identity: Nationalism And Cosmopolitianism In Transition, Jaylen Turner

Theses & ETDs

This thesis examines how nationalism and cosmopolitanism have changed as political identities under intensified globalization, treating them not as opposites but as overlapping, variably activated networks of belonging. Drawing on constructivist theory and debates on universalism, it analyzes World Values Survey data from Waves 5–7 (2005–2022) using repeated-measures ANOVAs on indicators such as national pride, willingness to fight for one’s country, national-citizenship identification, immigration attitudes, world-citizen identification, cross-national trust, and confidence in the United Nations. The findings show a dual erosion of both national and world-citizen identifications in the late 2010s and early 2020s, alongside stable or improving pragmatic orientations …

Digital Orientalism: Examining Eastern Practices In The Wellness Industry, Celia Golden May 2026

Digital Orientalism: Examining Eastern Practices In The Wellness Industry, Celia Golden

Departmental Honors & Graduate Capstone Projects

As popularity rises for global and domestic wellness retreats as tourist destinations, their predominantly Western audience invites an American offshoot of Orientalism that commodifies Asian names and practices into “mindfulness.” This paper examines the guest guide of the Miraval Berkshires wellness facility and its treatment of Eastern practices. Findings revealed 55.6% of the specialists at the Miraval Berkshires employ Eastern techniques, and 74.14% of those offerings are restricted to paid and private sessions to create exclusivity. The word “ancient” is disproportionately leveled against Eastern practices in the guest guide to further cement them as relics of the past. Alongside minimalist …

However, critical gaps remain that limit the applicability of data-driven insights in landscape management. This dissertation investigates the potential of geospatial analytics for sustainable agriculture and landscape management, with a focus on applied methods that operate across spatial and temporal scales. Using field, landscape, regional, and national datasets, it explores the capabilities and …

Beyond Student Voice: The Agency Blueprint For Democratic Inquiry And Creative Problem Solving, Noam Oren

Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects

The purpose of this Master of Science project in Creativity and Change Leadership is to establish a foundational framework for schools to cultivate a climate that empowers students to act and create within their communities. The primary contribution is the Agency Blueprint, a scalable model designed to adapt to diverse educational settings. By synthesizing the four-stage Creative Problem Solving (CPS) framework with Democratic pedagogy, the blueprint—supported by the Lundy Model and the REAL framework—provides the necessary scaffolding for students to transition from passive subjects to active agents of change. Whether implemented for a small cohort or a larger student body, …

Future Ready Young Adults: Building Creative And Adaptive Thinkers, Robell Yeung May 2026

Future Ready Young Adults: Building Creative And Adaptive Thinkers, Robell Yeung

Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects

Abstract of Project

Future Ready Young Adults: Building Creative and Adaptive Thinkers addresses a developmental gap in educational practices that prioritize technical proficiency over the psychological frameworks necessary for navigating systemic ambiguity. This project introduces an interdisciplinary, modular curriculum specifically designed for the challenges of emerging adulthood. By synthesizing Creative Problem Solving (CPS), James Clear’s habit architecture, and Martin Seligman’s PERMA model, the curriculum provides a structured pathway for cultivating creative self-efficacy and financial capability. Moving beyond traditional views of innate creativity, this model employs asset-based frameworks to treat cognitive agility and ambiguity tolerance as developable competencies. The project culminates …

Impacts And Perceptions Of Holistic Education Practices, Kaitlyn Mj Calabrese May 2026

Impacts And Perceptions Of Holistic Education Practices, Kaitlyn Mj Calabrese

Leadership Education Capstones

This study examined educators' perceptions of holistic education and its impact on students. It

addressed the problem of the limited emphasis on developing the whole student within

traditional education systems, despite its importance for long-term success. Developing students

holistically involves not only focusing on academic skills but also on non-academic skills such as

social-emotional development, community building, communication, and collaboration. This

mixed-methods study used an online survey administered through Qualtrics consisting of 24

questions, including Likert scale and open-ended items. The survey was completed by 12

educators from a school that has grades 1 through 4. in Southeast Minnesota. Qualitative …

Art, Ethics, And Identity - The Paper Doll As Spiritual Care, Ellen Keyser, Sarah L. Keyser May 2026

Art, Ethics, And Identity - The Paper Doll As Spiritual Care, Ellen Keyser, Sarah L. Keyser

Presentations

The effects of expressive art and spiritual care are known to be especially beneficial when placed in conversation with each other or implemented in interdisciplinary settings. Yet despite the therapeutic effects of integrative care being well established, the average pediatric chaplain often remains unempowered to implement these practices or to communicate their value from both a social-emotional or moral-spiritual standpoint. The hope of this workshop is to empower the chaplain to engage with expressive modalities of art as part of a comprehensive spiritual care plan, recognizing both art and play as native languages of childhood. Participants will practice creating a …

Fantasies Of Just Torture: On Violent Efforts To Navigate The Intolerable, Tonya Sims May 2026

Fantasies Of Just Torture: On Violent Efforts To Navigate The Intolerable, Tonya Sims

Philosophy Undergraduate Honors Theses

This thesis examines why torture, despite being among the clearest objects of moral revulsion available to us, remains imaginable as a serious moral possibility. I begin by refining the concept of torture through an examination of the United Nations Convention Against Torture, while arguing that insufficient attention has been paid to what I take to be its paradigmatic form, namely sadistic torture. Against definitions that treat torture primarily in instrumental terms, I argue that torture is best understood as the intentional infliction of extreme pain upon an unwilling person in order to dominate or otherwise manipulate their autonomy. Drawing on …

Cis-Variant Gene-Expression Association Analysis: A Targeted Approach To Identify Functional Cis-Regulatory Variation, Sofiya Arora May 2026

Cis-Variant Gene-Expression Association Analysis: A Targeted Approach To Identify Functional Cis-Regulatory Variation, Sofiya Arora

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Phenotypic diversity in plants is largely driven by changes in gene function arising from mutations in both the coding and regulatory regions. Regulatory variation is particularly pervasive because it can fine-tune gene expression without disrupting protein function and is therefore less likely to be strongly selected against in natural populations. As a result, it has played a central role in evolution and domestication. In our previous genome-wide eQTL mapping study in maize, nearly two-thirds of the expressed genes were found to harbor detectable cis-expression quantitative trait loci (cis-eQTLs) with strong local effects on gene expression. Though these cis-variants are widespread, …

The Goad, The Bad, & The Ugly: The Livestreamed Vice Signaling & Body Fascism Of Clavicular & Asmongold, Jacob T. Fry May 2026

The Goad, The Bad, & The Ugly: The Livestreamed Vice Signaling & Body Fascism Of Clavicular & Asmongold, Jacob T. Fry

Department of Communication Studies: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

This thesis explores the rhetorical, material, and symbolic implications of fascist livestreaming in the United States through two popular streamers: Clavicular and Asmongold. These two streamers represent a small slice of the rise of different reactionary rhetorics online and how the use of different masculine subcultures—in this case ‘Looksmaxxing’ or Gamer inspired rhetoric—are used as ideological texts for white male supremacy. Whether in front of the glow of their gaming monitor or the flashing lights of a nightclub, the livestreaming of the body, home, relationships, and lifestyles challenge rhetorical conceptions of style, the ‘public/private sphere,’ and political communication. As different …

The Impact Of Anti Lgbtqi+ Legistlation On Diplomacy And Economy In Africa: A Case Study Of Ghana, Hunvilla Agyemang

Master of Public Administration for Senior Leadership

This  research  examines  the  impact  of  anti LGBTQI+  legislation  on  diplomacy  and  economy in Africa, using Ghana as a case study. The study is motivated by the renewed wave of  anti-LGBTQI+ legislative activism across parts of Africa and the significant domestic and  international debate surrounding Ghana's Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill. The paper  asks three central questions: what drives the rise of anti-LGBTQI+ legislation in Ghana, what  economic consequences are associated with such legislation, and what diplomatic implications  follow when a state adopts or advances laws widely perceived as discriminatory. To answer these  questions, the study employs a …

Understanding And Managing Stress In The Public Sector: A Focus On Municipal Government, Emmanuel N. Asante May 2026

Understanding And Managing Stress In The Public Sector: A Focus On Municipal Government, Emmanuel N. Asante

Master of Public Administration for Senior Leadership

This Capstone examines workplace stress among municipal government employees, using the City of Worcester, Massachusetts, as a practical case study. Municipal employees play a critical role in delivering essential public services, yet they often work under challenging conditions, including heavy workloads, limited resources, strict rules, and high public expectations. Over time, these pressures can negatively affect employee well-being, job performance, and the quality of services provided to residents.

The purpose of this project is to understand better the causes and effects of workplace stress in local government and to identify practical ways municipalities can address it. The study uses an …

Bounded Transformation: From Static Readiness To Trajectory Based Change Viability, Mary Piecewicz, Manjari Gupta May 2026

Bounded Transformation: From Static Readiness To Trajectory Based Change Viability, Mary Piecewicz, Manjari Gupta

Master of Public Administration for Senior Leadership

Most organizational transformations do not fail loudly. They fade, fragment, and quietly exhaust the people expected to sustain them. What practitioners often diagnose as resistance, poor adoption, or weak execution may begin earlier, with an untested assumption that the organization is stable, coherent, and capable enough to absorb planned change. Existing change frameworks offer useful guidance for implementation, but they do not formally ask whether the organization is currently moving in a direction, and with enough stability, to make planned change viable.

This capstone introduces Bounded Transformation: From Static Readiness to Trajectory-Based Change Viability, a trajectory-based pre-condition framework for …

The Future Of Sustainable Fashion: How Vr Can Transform Retail Into An Eco-Friendly Shopping Experience, Kaeleigh G. Stroud

Apparel Merchandising and Product Development Undergraduate Honors Theses

Exploring the influence of virtual reality (VR) on consumer behavior highlights its potential as a powerful tool for facilitating sustainable fashion practices. The primary focus of this research is to examine how VR technology affects consumers’ hedonic (enjoyment-driven), utilitarian (function-driven), social (connection-driven), and symbolic (meaning-driven) values, and how these values impact consumer satisfaction. While VR can be used as a tool to enhance consumer engagement, its potential to create a more sustainable shopping experience in fashion makes it essential for facilitating eco-friendly fashion consumption.

To understand how VR impacts consumers’ shopping behaviors, this study explores how sustainable shopping shapes consumer …

Leveraging Data Analytics For Student Success: Lessons From Building An Analytics Program At Bentley University, Jane De Leon Griffin, Edlira Stefani, Rahat Sabyrbekov, Patrick Dickson, Annie Raunikar May 2026

Leveraging Data Analytics For Student Success: Lessons From Building An Analytics Program At Bentley University, Jane De Leon Griffin, Edlira Stefani, Rahat Sabyrbekov, Patrick Dickson, Annie Raunikar

Student Success Publications

Higher education institutions across the United States face an unprecedented convergence of challenges: a shrinking pool of college-aged students, persistent learning gaps from the COVID-19 pandemic, the destabilization of longstanding federal support structures, and the rising cost of attendance, which increases public skepticism about the value of higher education and challenges access for low-income learners. In this environment, student success is no longer simply a strategic priority—it is an institutional imperative.

One way in which Bentley University has responded to these pressures is by launching the Building a Data-Driven Student Success Ecosystem (BaSSE) initiative, a comprehensive analytics program designed to …

The Establishment Clause And The Ten Commandments Post-Lemon, Richard Kato May 2026

The Establishment Clause And The Ten Commandments Post-Lemon, Richard Kato

Northern Illinois University Law Review

Louisiana recently passed a law requiring that a display of the Ten Commandments be placed in all public school classrooms in the state. The law is currently facing an Establishment Clause challenge in the Fifth Circuit. This Comment argues that Louisiana’s Ten Commandments law does not violate the original public meaning of the Establishment Clause. The history of the Establishment Clause suggests that noncoercive support of religion was widely accepted before and up through the time of the First Amendment’s enactment. Following Kennedy v. Bremerton School District’s abandonment of the Lemon v. Kurtzman test, the Ten Commandments law must …
