Composition-Driven Phase Coexistence And Functional Properties Of The (1-X)Bzt-(X)Bct Ceramics Near The Phase Convergence Region, Jirapa Tangsritrakul, Chumpon Wichittanakom, Chatree Saiyasombat

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

The concept of composition-induced phase transformation in Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) at the Morphotropic Phase Boundary (MPB) has been employed to improve functional properties of the (1-x)BZT-(x)BCT ceramic. However, it was observed that the phase diagram of the (1-x)BZT-(x)BCT ceramic is different to the PZT. As a result, the nature of the superior functional properties found in (1-x)BZT-(x)BCT ceramic is unlike PZT and still unclear so far. In this work, functional properties; dielectric, ferroelectric, energy storage, and piezoelectric properties, of the (1-x)BZT-(x)BCT ceramics where x = 0.3 mol% to 0.6 mol% were evaluated at room temperature in comparison to the …

The Meme Stock Fenzy: Origins And Implications, Dhruv Aggarwal, Albert H. Choi, Yoon-Ho Alex Lee

Articles

In 2021, several publicly traded companies, such as GameStop, Bed Bath & Beyond, and AMC, became “meme stocks,” experiencing a sharp rise in their stock prices through a dramatic influx of retail investors into their shareholder base. Analyses of the meme stock surge and its implications for corporate governance have focused on the idiosyncratic creation of online communities around particular stocks during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this Article, we argue that the emergence of meme stocks is part of longer-running and more structural digital transformations in trading, investing, and governance. On the trading front, the abolition of commissions by major …

Rethinking Innovation At Fda, Rachel E. Sachs, Nicholson Price, Patricia J. Zeitler Jan 2024

Rethinking Innovation At Fda, Rachel E. Sachs, Nicholson Price, Patricia J. Zeitler

Articles

In several controversial drug approval decisions in recent years, the Food & Drug Administration (“FDA”) has publicly justified its decision partly on the ground that approving the drugs in question would support innovation in those fields going forward. To some observers, these arguments were surprising, as the Agency’s determination whether a drug is “safe” and “effective” does not seem to depend on whether its approval also supports innovation. But FDA’s use of these innovation arguments in drug approval decisions is just one example of the ways in which the Agency has come to make many innovation-related judgments as part of …

Queer: Litigating Gender Non-Conformity, Eliot Tracz Jan 2024

Queer: Litigating Gender Non-Conformity, Eliot Tracz

American University Journal of Gender, Social Policy & the Law

Section I of this article provides background information on the complexity of gender identity. This section addresses some of the different terminology used by members of the LGBTQ community to describe their gender identity, including the relatively well-known term “nonbinary” and continuing through to the less concrete term “queer.” Section II looks at the history of state action policing queer bodies and identities. It outlines statutes enacted to prevent individuals from hiding their identities and how such laws were used to target queer individuals. Section III discusses the case of Grimm v. Gloucester County School Boardand the two approaches …

The Very Interstate Nature Of The Internet? Establishing Uniform Requirements For Internet Transmissions Within Interstate And Foreign Commerce, Catherine Beal Jan 2024

The Very Interstate Nature Of The Internet? Establishing Uniform Requirements For Internet Transmissions Within Interstate And Foreign Commerce, Catherine Beal

American University Journal of Gender, Social Policy & the Law

This Comment argues that federal statutes, including the jurisdictional nexus of “transmission in interstate or foreign commerce,” should require evidence that a transmission actually traveled through interstate commerce to establish the required federal nexus. Part II of this article describes what threatening internet speech is, the development of the circuit split, and the statutory criteria at issue. Part III analyzes each side of the split and examines when statutory language permits an assumption of interstate or foreign transmission. Part III also proposes adopting a strict definition of “transmission in interstate and foreign commerce” for Internet-based speech and requiring evidence that …

Why Play? Exploring The Realities Of Play-Based Learning In Kindergarten, Sofia Josephine Steele Jan 2024

Why Play? Exploring The Realities Of Play-Based Learning In Kindergarten, Sofia Josephine Steele

Honors Program Theses

By nature, children are curious and love to explore the world around them. Play is one way that children can fulfill that innate curiosity. Through play-based learning, educators can utilize that innate curiosity and wonder in children to create valuable learning experiences that will engage and teach them. This pedagogical approach is used in early childhood education to help children develop their academic, social, and emotional skills through appropriate learning experiences that consider their abilities and interests. However, in recent years, there has been a shift away from play-based learning in kindergarten classrooms. The reasoning behind this shift may be …

Screen Time And Problematic Behavior: Piloting A Family- Based Intervention, Naomi Morissette Jan 2024

Screen Time And Problematic Behavior: Piloting A Family- Based Intervention, Naomi Morissette

PCOM Psychology Dissertations

School-aged children are increasingly growing up in a technology-driven society. The amount of time children spend engaged with screens is problematic, as is the subsequent impact on the development of their executive functioning skills. The current study investigated the feasibility of an online, asynchronous, family-based intervention to limit screen usage for elementary-aged children. It was hypothesized that removing screens from children’s bedrooms and one hour before bedtime was a feasible strategy to limit screen use and would result in positive behavior change, specifically regarding the ability to self-cue the use of executive skills. Additionally, it was hypothesized that an online …

Linking Ethical Leadership To Organizational Citizenship Behavior And Unethical Pro-Organizational Behavior, Jinhee Kim Jan 2024

Linking Ethical Leadership To Organizational Citizenship Behavior And Unethical Pro-Organizational Behavior, Jinhee Kim

Theses and Dissertations

The significance of ethical leadership has recently garnered considerable attention from both academia and practitioners. However, despite its reputation for facilitating ethical conduct and preventing unethical conduct, there are inconsistencies in the findings about its relationship with (un)ethical pro-organizational behaviors such as organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) and unethical pro-organizational behavior (UPB). Thus, the purpose of this dissertation is to delve deeply into the influence of ethical leadership on OCB and UPB. Through three interrelated papers, I seek insights into how ethical leadership can drive ethical pro-organizational behaviors that are compatible with broader societal norms. In Paper 1, while noting a …

The study used a case study research design to document the faculty's experiences discussing and reflecting on their practice and perceptions of …

Diversity Across Disciplines: Student Response To Dei Content In College Curricula, Angela Pettitt Jan 2024

Diversity Across Disciplines: Student Response To Dei Content In College Curricula, Angela Pettitt

Theses and Dissertations

Discussion and inclusion of diversity-related topics in higher education are often confined to specific courses designated as fulfilling a university-mandated diversity requirement such as courses in women's studies, Black history or literature, Eastern religions, among others. Mainstream general education courses in disciplines such as psychology, chemistry, or communications typically do not address diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) topics as part of the curriculum, even if individual textbooks, courses, or faculty work to improve such courses' pluralism. However, as the U.S. population becomes both more diverse and segregated, and as DEI initiatives come under fire from state legislators, students receive conflicting …

How Team Engagement Improved Positive Behavior Intervention And Support, Colleen Canty Jan 2024

How Team Engagement Improved Positive Behavior Intervention And Support, Colleen Canty

Antioch University Dissertations & Theses

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) are a continuum of behavior intervention strategies designed for implementation across the student population. The implementation of PBIS has demonstrated positive academic and behavioral outcomes, as well as safe and favorable school culture in the public education setting (Ockerman et al., 2012; Sugai & Horner, 2009). However, in the alternative school setting, results have not been as favorable. “Alternative school programs have also moved towards adopting PBIS framework, however, outcomes have been less positive. Although alternative programs are often more restrictive and specialized because of the intensified needs of their youth, they share instructional, …

The Lord Will Provide: What Will You Do?, Steve Case Jan 2024

The Lord Will Provide: What Will You Do?, Steve Case

Journal of Adventist Youth and Young Adult Ministries

Youth ministry often rises or falls based on its leadership. However, recruiting, training, and retaining youth leaders remains problematic. Making youth leadership development the modus operandi of youth ministry turns it into an ongoing process rather than an annual tug-of-war. It includes the youth as leaders, as well as a variety of other ages. It goes beyond completing a task, although it includes many tasks. And the expectation is to engage and explore one’s own development as well as that of the group. Resources exist to foster this, but the buy-in has been limited. Following these recommendations could result in …

Optimizing Field-Linked Simulations Of Dry Season Uptake And Monsoon Infiltration Within An Aspen-Mixed Conifer Forest, Raymond J. Hess

Master's Theses

Climate models forecast that headwater catchments in the western U.S. will undergo a reduction in snowpack, early season snowmelt, and increases in evapotranspiration. The resulting extended dry season will stress vegetation in mountainous watersheds throughout the Upper Colorado River Basin. We investigate infiltration patterns and root water uptake in response to dry season disturbances within the East River watershed in Colorado. To do this, we collected soil cores, measured matric potential and sap flow, and monitored tree xylem and soil for stable isotopes of water (2H, 18O) in two soil profiles to 90 cm depth (with three Engelmann spruce and …

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Background: Systemic chemotherapy is a cornerstone of cancer treatment, but it often leads to significant side effects, which may impact patients' quality of life and lead to increased acute healthcare utilization. Although patients are typically informed of potential symptoms and advised to seek care as needed, many struggle to understand and manage symptoms effectively. Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) have been shown to improve symptom monitoring, decrease symptom burden, and reduce emergency department visits and hospital admissions. Electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePROs), in particular, offer timely and accessible symptom tracking, though their effectiveness has largely been evaluated within urban clinical trial settings and …
