The Development Of The Songkran Festival In Thailand: Balancing Tradition, Tourism, And Cultural Identity, Shiyuan Huang
The Development Of The Songkran Festival In Thailand: Balancing Tradition, Tourism, And Cultural Identity, Shiyuan Huang
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This research paper examines the development of Thailand’s Songkran Festival over the past decade, with a focus on government policies and the festival's shifting cultural identity. Initially centered on tourism promotion and cultural preservation, Songkran has become part of Thailand’s soft power strategy by 2023, transforming from a local celebration into a global cultural event. The festival's format now features grand, entertainment-driven spectacles, such as the 2024 Maha Songkran World Water Festival, aiming to extend Thailand’s cultural influence internationally. The study further explores the social transformation of Songkran, which, while rooted in traditional values of family and community, has adapted …
Overview Of Music Interventions For Addressing Emotional Distress Among Stroke Patients: A Scoping Review, Xiuqi Shao
Overview Of Music Interventions For Addressing Emotional Distress Among Stroke Patients: A Scoping Review, Xiuqi Shao
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Stroke rehabilitation focuses more on restoring function and physical ability and often overlooks the prevalence of psychological symptoms. The prevalence of depression after stroke has been reported to be between 25 and 79 percent. In addition to depression, anxiety, fatigue and apathy are common symptoms after stroke, with a significant overlap in prevalence and symptoms. Music interventions have been reported to evoke and support emotional processes and facilitate engagement in physical movement, making them valuable for stroke rehabilitation. Many studies have investigated the effects of music interventions on negative emotions in stroke patients, but there is still a need for …

Improved Sequence Embeddings For Peptide-Class I Mhc Binding Prediction, Patiphan Wongklaew
Improved Sequence Embeddings For Peptide-Class I Mhc Binding Prediction, Patiphan Wongklaew
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The binding of a peptide antigen to a class I major histocompatibility complex (MHC) protein is considered an essential process by which the immune system monitors infected cells. This mechanism has facilitated the development of peptide-based vaccines aimed at stimulating the patient's immune response for cancer treat-ment. Accurate prediction of peptide-MHC binding is therefore crucial for prioritizing optimal peptides tailored to individual patients. Nevertheless, many MHC alleles lack sufficient experimental data on peptide-MHC binding, which potentially constrains the accuracy of existing prediction models. This study introduces an enhanced iteration of MHCSeqNet, an open-source deep learning model which utilizes sequence data …
Improving Thai-Dialect Automatic Speech Recognition With Curriculum Learning, Artit Suwanbandit
Improving Thai-Dialect Automatic Speech Recognition With Curriculum Learning, Artit Suwanbandit
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) has been the foremost feature and integrated in many real-world usages for decades. The novel deep learning approaches prevail in the ASR field as a model architecture. However, ASR still struggles with low-resource data, especially in the Thai dialectal language. Transfer learning is the conventional approach in the machine learning field for escalating the performance of low-resource settings. In the scenario that additional fine-tuning tasks are not achievable, exerting all efficiency of target data is an accountability. To overcome stagnation, we proposed transfer-based curriculum learning for low-resource dialectal ASR, Phonemetically-induced subword Out-of-vocabulary rate (PhIS-OOV), and Model …
Grammatical Error Correction In Thai Sentences For Deaf Students, Supachan Traitruengsakul
Grammatical Error Correction In Thai Sentences For Deaf Students, Supachan Traitruengsakul
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Deaf students encounter challenges in written communication due to errors such as insertion, deletion, disorder, misusage, and misspellings. Grammatical error correction (GEC) technology can help mitigate these issues. However, existing GEC models are primarily trained on online resources from second-language hearing learners. In contrast, sentences written by deaf students suffer from a variety of errors not typically found elsewhere. To address this issue, we create the Thai Deaf Corpus (TDC), focusing on identifying and analyzing errors among deaf students in grades 7-12 across four deaf schools. Additionally, we introduce a two-stage system for the Thai-GEC model, automatically detecting and correcting …

The study evaluates the adaptability of SER models across linguistic boundaries, emphasizing the challenges and potential of leveraging well-resourced languages to enhance emotion recognition capabilities in a language with fewer resources. Through a series of experiments, the research investigates three primary aspects: the performance of same-corpus training within Thai, cross-lingual model application from English and Mandarin to Thai, and the effectiveness of transfer learning techniques in improving model accuracy. The findings indicate that Mandarin facilitates more …
Option Pricing Based On A Stochastic Volatility With Co-Jump Model And Application In Thai Market, Lu Tang
Option Pricing Based On A Stochastic Volatility With Co-Jump Model And Application In Thai Market, Lu Tang
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The correlated jumps in returns and volatility serve different, but complementary purposes in studying asset dynamic properties. In this paper, we choose Heston’s square-root stochastic volatility model, simultaneously incorporating jumps in returns and volatility, and propose a closed-form solution for European call option pricing. A Comparative Study Of Portal Versus Peripheral Circulating Tumor Cells In Patients With Stage I-Iii Pancreatic Cancer, Thaninee Prasoppokakorn
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Background: Portal venous circulating tumor cells (CTCs) detection may better reflect vascular metastasis and predict micro-metastasis risk in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) than peripheral blood. We hypothesize that portal CTCs could better represent micro-metastasis and predict survival in PDAC patients. Methods: We conducted a single-center, prospective interventional cohort study of patients with stage I-III PDAC between January 2020 and September 2021, with followed up until February 2024. Portal venous blood was obtained via endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided sampling, and peripheral blood was collected on the same day. CTCs were detected using EpCAM and mucin1 antibodies and reported as cells/8mL of blood. …

Profiling The Microbiome In Breast Cancer Patients Before And After Treatment With Cannabis Oil, May Soe Thu
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
With long-term cancer treatment, female breast cancer patients encounter debilitating side effects from a current range of cancer therapies. Cannabinoids (CBs) have been widely used due to their efficacy on chemotherapy-associated pain. Although there is some evidence that cannabis oil may enhance quality of life and lessen symptoms in people with breast cancer, this is not very substantial. No randomised trials evaluating the effects of cannabis in breast cancer patients has been conducted before. The microbiome is critical to human health and disease, and accumulating data suggests that it is influenced by a variety of external variables, including marijuana, cannabis, …
