INTRODUCTION: Workers' reasons for not wearing hearing protection devices (HPDs) largely come from performance issues that occur while wearing. Research has shown that such complaints are justified in regard to auditory situational awareness (e.g., speech comprehension), but other aspects of work performance (e.g., multitasking ability) are rarely characterized. Further, the relationship between HPD-related performance worsening and the choice to wear an HPD has not been objectively characterized. We address both gaps in the literature here.
METHODS: Participants were presented with moving objects on a computer screen and tasked to track a "target" object by hovering a cursor over it. Target …

BACKGROUND: Candida auris (also referred to as Candidozyma auris) is an emerging multidrug-resistant fungal pathogen associated with high morbidity and mortality. Existing infection prevention and control (IPC) guidance has largely focused on adult populations, with limited recommendations for pediatric healthcare and non-healthcare settings.
METHODS: The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) convened a multidisciplinary expert panel to develop IPC recommendations for C. auris. The panel developed recommendations using a structured, iterative Delphi consensus process with rounds of discussion, refinement, and anonymous electronic voting with predefined consensus thresholds. Panelists reviewed relevant peer-reviewed and gray literature integrated with expert …

BACKGROUND: TANGO2 deficiency disorder (TDD) is a rare autosomal recessive condition characterized by neurodevelopmental delay, epilepsy, and metabolic crises, mainly caused by recurrent deletions in
METHODS: Long-read HiFi GS was performed on blood-derived genomic DNA from affected individuals in both families using the Revio system (Pacific Biosciences).
RESULTS: Homozygous deletions spanning exons 3-9 in family 1 and exons 4-6 in family 2 were identified. These recurrent deletions resulted from genomic recombination between an Alu element and distinct retrotransposon subclasses: ERV1 in family 1 and L1MB8 in family 2. The lack of extended homology at breakpoint junctions, deletion sizes, and the …

Pediatric cardiothoracic surgeries are high-stakes, complex procedures, typically undergoing prior review at multidisciplinary conferences. This study evaluates practice patterns of conferences throughout the United States (US). Surveys were distributed to fellowship program directors or division directors in 124 US pediatric cardiology centers seeking information on conference logistics, fellow roles, quality improvement (QI), and satisfaction. All 47 responding centers (response rate 38%) conduct presurgical conferences, mostly on a weekly basis (92%) lasting 60-120 min (79%). The conferences are solely virtual (19%) or hybrid (81%). High-volume centers (> 300 surgical cases/year) are more likely to hold multiple conferences (13/20 vs 7/27, p < 0.01) and less likely to designate a moderator (11/20 vs 22/26, p = 0.027). Categorical pediatric cardiology fellows at 33 centers present clinical data (97%), echocardiograms (85%), catheterizations (82%), and cross-sectional imaging (39%), typically beginning in their first year. Most centers report that minor (98%) or major changes (51%) are made to patient management at least "sometimes." Responders rate conferences as very important (median 10/10 on a 10-point Likert scale, IQR 9-10), but satisfaction is more modest (median 7/10, IQR 7-9). Only 17% of centers have a formal QI process. Comments from 42 centers reveal positive themes of collaboration (68%) but also concerns about lengthy (30%) or inefficient (36%) discussion. Conclusions: This survey highlights common practices for pediatric cardiothoracic presurgical conferences. Conferences are collaborative and seen as highly impactful. However, satisfaction varies, and QI efforts are infrequent. These findings highlight opportunities for process improvement and standardization.

From Total Domination To Graph Coloring, Sawyer Isaac Osborn
Dissertations
A question involving a chess piece called a prince on the 8×8 chessboard leads to a concept in graph theory involving total domination. We say a vertex u in a graph G totally dominates a vertex v if u is adjacent to v. A subset S of the vertex set of a graph G is a total dominating set for G if every vertex in G is totally dominated by at least one vertex of S. If S is a total dominating set of G, then σS(v) denotes the number of …
Personal And High-Intensity Gait Factors Associated With Balance And Walking Improvement With Outpatient Stroke Rehabilitation: A Retrospective Study, Heather Staal
Dissertations
Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between personal factors and High-Intensity Gait variables and balance and walking improvement in an outpatient stroke population.
Background: Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability, with persistent gait and balance impairments commonly limiting independence and participation. High-intensity gait training (HIGT) is an evidence-based rehabilitation approach that improves walking outcomes following stroke; however, guidance on how specific training variables are applied in outpatient physical therapy settings remains broad.
Methods: This retrospective observational study analyzes clinical data from outpatient physical therapy episodes in which HIGT is a …

Context Matters: Auditing Gender Bias In T2i Generation Through Risk-Tiered Use-Case Profiles, Jose Luis Luna Campoverde, Yankun Wu, Xiaofei Xie, Noa Garcia
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Text-to-image (T2I) generative models are increasingly used to produce content for education, media, and public-facing communication, and are starting to be integrated into higher-impact pipelines. Since generated images tend to reinforce stereotypes, producing representational erasure via “default” depictions and shaping perceptions of who belongs in certain roles, a growing body of work has proposed metrics to quantify gender bias in T2I outputs. Yet existing evaluations remain fragmented. Metrics are often reported without a shared view of what they measure, what assumptions they entail, or how their results should be interpreted under different deployment contexts. This limits the usefulness of gender …

“Megadeal” Subsidies, Local Spillovers And Corporate Innovation, Yoojin Lee, Shaphan Ng, Aruhn Venkat
Research Collection School Of Accountancy
We examine whether the largest place-based, firm-specific corporate subsidies (“Megadeals”) awarded by state and local governments affect local firms’ innovation. First, we document that 1) subsidy firms innovate in the subsidized county and 2) subsidy firms bring inventors from other counties into the subsidized county, consistent with subsidy firms generating new knowledge locally. In our main test, we use a stacked cohort design with stringent fixed effects to document that local firms increase patenting following a Megadeal. Cross-sectionally, effects are increasing 1) in subsidy firm innovativeness, 2) in the technological closeness of subsidy firms and local firms, 3) when subsidy …
“Trust Me, It Matters:" Investigating The Relationship Between Student Trust, Institutional Feedback, And Survey Participation, Kyle Thomas Amore
“Trust Me, It Matters:" Investigating The Relationship Between Student Trust, Institutional Feedback, And Survey Participation, Kyle Thomas Amore
Social Justice in Educational Leadership EdD Dissertations
Universities rely on survey data to improve the student experience, yet declining response rates increasingly threaten the generalizability of these findings. This quantitative quasi-experimental study investigated the relationship between institutional trust and students’ intentions to participate in university-sponsored surveys. Additionally, the study evaluated an information-sharing intervention designed to bolster trust and participation. A QuantCrit lens was employed throughout the development, administration, and analysis of the study. To measure trust, three scales were developed and tested for reliability: Institutional Trust, Institutional Commitment, and Institutional Communication. Results revealed a significant, positive correlation between student-institutional trust and survey intent; however, the impact of …

The rising incidence of early-onset colorectal cancer has renewed attention to colorectal adenomas in adolescents and young adults (AYA), although these lesions remain rare and poorly characterized in adolescents. Lack of age-specific guidance creates uncertainty regarding genetic evaluation, surveillance intervals, and long-term management when these lesions are identified in adolescents. This narrative review synthesizes current evidence and expert perspective on epidemiology, evaluation, endoscopic management, surveillance, genetic considerations, and psychosocial implications of incidentally identified colorectal adenomas across the AYA spectrum, with emphasis on adolescents as a distinct clinical population. Available data largely derive from adults aged 20-49 years but suggest that …

The Effects Of Bone Health And Variation On Saw Mark Signatures, Lily Ambrose
The Effects Of Bone Health And Variation On Saw Mark Signatures, Lily Ambrose
PCOM Biomedical Studies Student Scholarship
Bone health and structural variation are multifactorial. Population, environment, age, diet, and health influence the overall functional morphology of bone and its response to stressors. Reduced cortical porosity, trabecular thinning, and low bone mass are common indicators of age-related and pathological changes, affecting a significant portion of the population. Because of this, bones encountered in medicolegal investigations often differ from what is considered “normal.” The structural integrity of bone needs to be considered because density influences mechanical strength and response to external forces. In criminal dismemberment cases, forensic scientists analyze saw marks to identify tool class and reconstruct events. While …

Ammonihah's Allegory Of Damnation: "Fire And Brimstone" In The Book Of Mormon And Doctrine & Covenants, Ella Bethany Sessions
Honors Projects
This paper examines D&C 76, an 1832 revelation penned by Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon that details Mormon theology in regards to eternity, salvation, and damnation, and Mosiah 27 and Alma 9–14 from the Book of Mormon to observe and analyze how the D&C 76’s specificity is mirrored and encased in two Book of Mormon stories: Alma the Younger and Ammonihah. The first section synthesizes D&C 76’s doctrinal claims and contextualizes Mormonism’s salvation and damnation as uniquely epistemic—or reliant on knowledge—and oriented around the internal processes of progression towards or away from God as necessary precedents to external and eternal …

Human-Ai Teaming Under Fire: Lessons From Ukraine’S Human-In-The-Loop Combat Ai Systems, Rahul Kumar Tiwari, Ram Babu
Journal of Strategic Security
This article examines human-artificial intelligence (AI) teaming in Ukrainian combat operations from 2022 to 2025, exploring the integration of AI systems with human decision-making in military contexts and how crisis-driven innovation can lead to human-AI teaming. The research addresses three questions: the effectiveness of human-AI teams compared with human-only or fully autonomous systems; the effect of organizational structures on the sustainability of AI integration; and strategic implications for the development of the doctrine and international security governance in the case of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The methodology uses mixed-method comparative case study analysis of three different Ukrainian systems: …
Disclosure Duties And Responsibilities, Gregory Klass
Disclosure Duties And Responsibilities, Gregory Klass
Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works
Contract disclosure rules differ in structure, function, and design. Though scholars often treat all these rules under the rubric of duty, in fact they fall into two broad categories. Disclosure duties treat the failure to disclose as a legal wrong; disclosure responsibilities attach positive legal consequences to disclosure but do not treat nondisclosure as a legal wrong. Disclosure duties can be further divided. Specified disclosure duties, which typically apply to consumer and other mass-market transactions, provide detailed guidance regarding both what information to disclose and how to disclose it. Generic disclosure duties, such as the tort of nondisclosure, provide broad …

Light rail systems can move large numbers of people at relatively high speeds as part of the transit networks critical to dense urban centers, lowering greenhouse gas emissions. However, costs associated with traditional light rail systems are incredibly high and hinder the implementation and expansion of such systems. In this paper, we detail the potential implementation of an inductively-charged, battery-powered light rail system with the potential to lower implementation and expansion costs. This system is compared to existing public transit networks and details of the subsystems required for the successful operation of the planned light rail system are established. As …

Ocean health monitoring is essential for understanding and protecting marine ecosystems, yet existing methods of collecting oceanographic data are often expensive, labor-intensive, and difficult to scale. This project presents the design, integration, and testing of the MANTARAY Profiler, a low-cost, autonomous ocean-monitoring system developed to support repeatable environmental data-collection missions with reduced operator involvement. The system was designed to navigate among multiple surface waypoints, execute vertical profiling maneuvers, and collect water-column data while maintaining a compact, user-friendly, and transportable platform.
The profiler travels horizontally across the water surface to a predetermined GPS waypoint using autonomous navigation and heading-control algorithms. Once …

This dissertation explores the impact of culturally responsive professional development on K–12 educators’ perceptions and understanding of Black English, also known as African American Vernacular English (AAVE). The study responds to the longstanding marginalization of Black English in educational environments and its implications for academic equity, cultural identity, and student performance—particularly among African American learners. The central intervention, titled “Do You Understand Me? Linguistic and Cultural Competence Black English Professional Development,” was designed to increase teachers’ linguistic awareness, dismantle deficit perspectives, and promote inclusive instructional practices that validate students’ home language.
Using a mixed-method design, 59 certified educators participated in …
