Al Jinan الجنان

This research aims to uncover the notion of historical self-awareness and to explore the novelist's ideology regarding the surrounding world, which is artistically reinterpreted through his narrative techniques. By employing the tools of semantics, the novelist seeks to achieve this within the text. In his novel, the writer employs verification and editing as structural strategies. The murder of the character, the son, serves as both a central theme and a means to reflect upon the other characters, allowing the author to delve deeply and expose the hidden simplicity and societal fragility within them. This approach highlights the transformations affecting individuals …

Leadership Strategies Used By Engineering Managers To Implement Global Positioning System To Increase Project Success Rates, Agha Bedar Bakht

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Poor leadership is a risk to small business enterprises’ survival because of its association with lowered productivity, stifled innovation, increased employee turnover, and potential financial loss. Ineffective leadership costs U.S. organizations up to $550 billion annually. Grounded in transformational leadership theory, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore strategies engineering managers use to implement a global positioning system (GPS) in their organizations to increase project success rates for business outcomes. The population consisted of six engineering managers from two companies in the Bay Area and Southern California departments of transportation who had successfully used leadership strategies …

Communication

While recent research in social VR have investigated user motivations and group communication, there is a gap in understanding the challenge of digital self-representation and how constraints in avatar customization may impact user self-presentation norms. 48 participants (aged 18-24) were asked to customize an avatar, after which researcher conducted qualitative interviews within the Meta Horizon Worlds VR platform regarding users’ satisfaction with their avatars (e.g., skin tone, hair, clothing). Using interview findings (n = 44), we report an in-depth empirical investigation of users’ perceptions of avatar representation, realism, and embodiment in VR. Users express a desire to customize avatars that …

Board Chair, Liz McKinley has written an inspiring editorial that reflects on her journey as a Maori science educator working across all levels in a career spanning over 40 years. Liz also touches on one of the long running controversies that seems unavoidable in this space, that of the value and credibility of allowing non-western cultural knowledge into science curricula and pedagogy. The program of the second biennial Turtle Island Indigenous Science Conference, held at the University of Regina in Canada is available. This issue also contains three items written specifically for us. The first is a summary of the …

Instructor-Supported Psychological Need Satisfaction As A Predictor Of Student Engagement And Learning In College, Gulay Guler

Individual, Family, and Community Education ETDs

College students endeavor to navigate the complexities of higher education while simultaneously striving to meet their physical and psychological needs. Delving into Self-Determination Theory, this study identified competence, relatedness, and autonomy as the basic psychological needs. Three mediation models investigated how instructor-supported psychological need satisfaction for competence, relatedness, and autonomy directly and indirectly affects perceived learning. The mediators were four types of engagement: affective engagement in learning, affective engagement in school, behavioral engagement, and cognitive engagement. 206 college students participated in the study by completing questionnaires during the spring semester of 2023. The results of the mediation models revealed that …

The Fiduciary Duty Of Combatting Global Climate Change, Sadie Mapstone Oct 2024

The Fiduciary Duty Of Combatting Global Climate Change, Sadie Mapstone

Washington and Lee Law Review Online

Ancient Roman Law codified the concept that there are certain resources that are so great and so important to human survival, that intuitively, no person should own them. Further, the government must protect these resources for the people. Today, this concept is known at the public trust doctrine. According to the contemporary doctrine, the seas, oceans, shores, and submerged lands cannot be privately owned, but shall be held in trust by the government for public use. Relying on the public trust doctrine, climate change litigants have brought a tirade of lawsuits—which have largely been unsuccessful—alleging that the government has a …

Factors Influencing Counselors-In-Training Disclosure, Grace Greenan Oct 2024

Factors Influencing Counselors-In-Training Disclosure, Grace Greenan

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Within counseling supervision relationships, supervisor feedback is an important aspect of counselors-in-training (CIT) development to improve CIT counseling competency and confidence in practice. Effective supervision requires CITs to disclose details about their practice, including counseling approaches, interpretations, challenges, and errors. Prior research has indicated CITs withheld information as often as 97% of the time in some cases. Grounded in a psychoanalytic theoretical foundation, the purpose of this quantitative survey study was to examine if the quality of supervision relationships and CIT resilience predicted CIT willingness to disclose during supervision. The researcher analyzed data using descriptive statistics, a stepwise multiple regression …

Health literacy (HL) is a key social determinant of health (SDoH) and is of increasing importance in public health research and intervention for improved health outcomes. Definitions of HL and digital health literacy (DHL) have evolved over time as the field has expanded conceptualization from an individual focus to the broader community and organizational levels. Careful consideration of HL and DHL for a variety of contexts and audiences is critical given increased global adoption of digital technologies and responses to emerging public health challenges. This study aimed to capture researchers' conceptualizations of HL/DHL and their motivations to engage in this …
