On-Device Sensitive Content Filtering For Social Media Upload Oct 2024

On-Device Sensitive Content Filtering For Social Media Upload

Defensive Publications Series

A social media platform refers to a website or software application that allows users to share content with each other. Users of a social media platform typically generate content to share, such as still images, audio, or video (often including audio), on a mobile device, because mobile devices typically include a suitable camera, a microphone, a connection to a communications network such as the internet, and can execute a software application that uploads content to the social media platform.

Automated Travel Sharing Feature For A Social Media Platform, Arun Manickam

Defensive Publications Series

A social media platform refers to a website or software application that allows users to share content with each other. A friend on a social media platform refers to a connection of the user to another user. Some presently available social media platforms include a manual check-in, in which a user can share a current location, a photo or video of where the user is or what the user is currently doing, or future travel plans with others (e.g., direct connections, or a larger group, at the user’s discretion). However, users often want to find travel companions, or friends to …

Active Pen For Hybrid Work Large Format Display, Hp Inc Oct 2024

Active Pen For Hybrid Work Large Format Display, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

This publication describes a method to enable active pen functions for large format display with infrared (IR) touch screen technology. Today’s interactive whiteboard (iWB) touch screens (Fig.1) are mostly designed with IR touch screen technology which has benefits of low cost, high reliability, and better ability to support large format display. However, the IR touch screen only can support passive pen which has lower accuracy and lower pen performance. In this publication, we would like to propose solutions to enable active pen feature on IR touch screen to improve end user pen experience on large format display.

Credentialing Care: Covid-19 And The Bureaucratization Of Doulas, Ellen Block, Julie Johnson Searcy, Angela N. Castañeda

Sociology Faculty Publications

Doulas in the United States offer embodied, informational, and continuous one-on-one care to birthing people. Doulas have historically sought certification to gain knowledge through training and to gain legitimacy for healthcare providers and clients. During the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals required doulas to provide proof of certification. The COVID-19 pandemic, and the proliferation of state-sponsored doula programs, has sparked a shift in how doulas are viewed and regulated, enabling new forms of bureaucratic oversight and control. Based on participant observation, surveys, and semi-structured interviews, we examine the connection between certification and care including motivations doulas have for certification, the perceived value …

Ferroptotic Cardiomyocytes Regulate Angiogenesis In The Regenerative Mouse Heart After Myocardial Infarction Through Direct And Indirect Mechanisms, Rebecca Ashley Stairley Oct 2024

Ferroptotic Cardiomyocytes Regulate Angiogenesis In The Regenerative Mouse Heart After Myocardial Infarction Through Direct And Indirect Mechanisms, Rebecca Ashley Stairley

MUSC Theses and Dissertations

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death in the United States, and heart attack occurs every 40 seconds in the US. A myocardial infarction (MI), or heart attack, results in ischemic injury and cardiomyocyte (CM) death. Mature mammalian CM renewal in the heart is insufficient to repopulate the lost tissue. However, the neonatal mouse heart retains its regenerative capacity through the first week of life, providing a valuable model to identifying regenerative factors.

Recent work by our lab revealed that the main mechanism of CM death in the heart post-MI is ferroptosis. In this study, we investigate the …

Srivastava, Lorraine Iacovitti, Elena Blanco-Suarez

Farber Institute for Neuroscience Faculty Papers

Rehabilitation is the only current intervention that improves sensorimotor function in ischemic stroke patients, similar to task-specific intensive training in animal models of stroke. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs)-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) are promising in restoring brain damage and function in stroke models. Additionally, the non-invasive intranasal route allows EVs to reach the brain and target specific ischemic regions. Yet unclear is how handling might enhance recovery or influence other therapies such as EVs after stroke. We used the transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model of stroke in rats to assess how intensive handling alone, in the form …

Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research

Oxygen isotopes (δ18O) are the most commonly utilized speleothem proxy and have provided many foundational records of paleoclimate. Thus, understanding processes affecting speleothem δ18O is crucial. Yet, prior calcite precipitation (PCP), a process driven by local hydrology, is a widely ignored control of speleothem δ18O. Here we investigate the effects of PCP on a stalagmite δ18O record from central Vietnam, spanning 45 – 4 ka. We employ a geochemical model that utilizes speleothem Mg/Ca and cave monitoring data to correct the δ18O record for PCP effects. The resulting record …

Pizza Hut L.L.C. V. Pandya: Exploring The Validity Of Pre-Dispute Jury Waivers, Logan Allen Oct 2024

Pizza Hut L.L.C. V. Pandya: Exploring The Validity Of Pre-Dispute Jury Waivers, Logan Allen

Texas A&M Law Review

This Note analyzes a 2023 Fifth Circuit opinion concerning whether a contractual pre-dispute jury waiver is enforceable utilizing the knowing and voluntary factors and when challenged under general fraud allegations. The Fifth Circuit incorrectly weighed two of the voluntary and knowing factors—conspicuousness and unequal bargaining power—to be in favor of enforcing the jury waiver when the facts of the case and prior case law prove otherwise. The Fifth Circuit should have first applied a historical analysis in analyzing a constitutional right, but the court was reasonable in applying the arbitration rule to jury waiver provisions because waiving a jury right …

Critical Comparison Of Potential Machine Learning Methods For Lightning Thermal Damage Assessment Of Composite Laminates, Juhyeong Lee, Scott L.J. Millen, Xiaodong Xu

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Publications

The present study assesses the potential of using machine learning (ML) methods to predict the extent of lightning thermal damage in fiber-reinforced composite laminates using three supervised machine learning (SML) algorithms: (1) linear regression (LR), (2) decision tree (DT)-based, and (3) MLP models. These models were based on the 10 most significant factors that influence the severity of lightning damage, including three current waveform parameters, four material configurations, and three orthogonal electrical conductivities of each composite. All models demonstrated good performance with coefficient of determination (R2) values between 0.84 ~ 0.96. The multilayer perceptron (MLP) regression model trained …

Psychological And Social Well-Being Of Bony Fishes In Zoos And Aquariums (Ii), Ronald G. Oldfield Oct 2024

Psychological And Social Well-Being Of Bony Fishes In Zoos And Aquariums (Ii), Ronald G. Oldfield

Faculty Scholarship

Research on the behaviour of animals in zoos has been conducted for decades, and observations have provided information that has improved the psychological and social well-being of animals. However, research on fishes in zoos and aquariums seems to be lacking. Here, we assess the current state of research on fishes in zoos and aquariums by surveying the peer-reviewed literature. Our assessment differs from previous surveys in that we examine the taxonomic classes Chondrichthyes (sharks and rays) and Osteichthyes (bony fishes) separately. Our survey finds that bony fishes have been drastically underrepresented in zoo journals, more drastically than chondrichthyans, revealing an …

Co-Creation Of Social Innovations For Healthy Ageing In Rural Europe–A Process Evaluation Of A Volunteer-Led Guided Conversation Toolkit Using Normalisation Process Theory (Npt), Mahrukh Mirza, Basharat Hussain, Shukru Esmene, Catherine Leyshon, Michael Leyshon, Arunangsu Chatterjee

Peninsula Medical School

We critically explored the use of Normalisation Process Theory (NPT) in the evaluation of a co-designed intervention toolkit for Healthy Ageing through Innovation in Rural Europe (HAIRE). The toolkit was co-designed and implemented in rural communities in Belgium, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. NPT was applied as a novel analytical framework to shed light on key practices and processes that supported implementation. Further, the paper discusses how social innovation research helps frame co-designing such interventions with local communities. During the study, 25 semi-structured interviews were conducted with project partners and volunteers who were involved in toolkit co-design and …
