Fayol's Unity Of Direction Principle Implemented In The Gospel Baptist Church Of America, Sam F. Aung Mar 2025

Fayol's Unity Of Direction Principle Implemented In The Gospel Baptist Church Of America, Sam F. Aung

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

There are many Myanmar churches in the USA, and many of them are based on their ethnicities. Since many are working classes, some church members have difficulty attending church worship services and participating in other church activities. This negatively impacts the Gospel Baptist Church of America (GBCA) church's mission, vision, and goals to implement them every year. The leadership team and their management skills at Gospel Baptist Church must address and find solutions for the issues so that members cannot perform their character as followers of Jesus Christ in the church. This praxis program helps the author implement the management …

Resonances Of Universalism In Tolkien's Legendarium, Nick Polk Mar 2025

Resonances Of Universalism In Tolkien's Legendarium, Nick Polk

Journal of Tolkien Research

Presented at the inaugural Holy Moot, a survey of a collection of passages from Tolkien's writings that demonstrate having the resonances of patristic universalism is conducted. It is then argued that all Tolkien’s writings be investigated separately in their context, comparing the location of each item under investigation with one another, and explore their connections without syncretizing them into a monolithic construct. To do this, it is argued that a hermeneutical theory rooted in the philosophy of Alfred North Whitehead is necessary. Concluding is a connecting of Whitehead's understanding of the expression of language with Tolkien’s own understanding of expression …

Prepared To Pastor: A Self-Assessment Tool And Equipping Guide For Pastoral Leaders, Scott Dickie Mar 2025

Prepared To Pastor: A Self-Assessment Tool And Equipping Guide For Pastoral Leaders, Scott Dickie

Doctor of Leadership

Many Christian leaders in the Canadian Alliance are not prepared for ministry leadership, resulting in ineffective or unhealthy leadership, poor personal choices, lack of resiliency and high attrition rates.

As a pastor with three decades of experience, I still feel ill-equipped in areas my role requires of me. My research revealed that many pastors often feel ‘in over their head’ as they navigate deep theological questions, complex psychological issues, challenging financial decisions, public critique or praise, and intricate human resource legalities. Pastors who enter church leadership from traditional bible schools or seminaries are often well-equipped in theological knowledge but tend …

Blue Momma, Why Are You So Blue: A Trauma-Informed Theological Approach To Systematically Oppressed Black Mothers In Memphis, Tennessee, Valerie Houston

Doctor of Ministry

This dissertation discusses the effects of systemic oppression on the well-being of Black mothers in Memphis, Tennessee. It posits that systemic oppression causes trauma that negatively affects Black motherhood and familial stability. Research shows that maternal mental illness may negatively affect child development, behavior, and cognitive and socio-emotional development.3 Black literary history has revealed the importance of Black mothers for family development.4 It has shown how Black mothers used religion to support themselves emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually during times of travail.5 This work theorizes that a trauma-informed theological approach will liberate Black mothers in Memphis, Tennessee, from …

The Canonical Development Of Zion Symbolism And Its Transformation In Jesus Christ, Jared Micah Blair Feb 2025

The Canonical Development Of Zion Symbolism And Its Transformation In Jesus Christ, Jared Micah Blair

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Zion symbolism developed through the canon of Scripture primarily as a reflection of God’s presence among his people and was transformed in Jesus Christ as the Church becomes a reflection of the heavenly Zion on earth. Building upon the imagery of Eden, Israel’s experience at Sinai, and the temple in Jerusalem, Zion emerged as the primary symbol denoting God’s presence among his people and as a reflection of God’s covenant promises to King David. As the symbol developed through the Psalms and Prophets, an emerging image of the coming Messiah produces a hope that once again mankind will dwell in …

Deepening Relationships With God At Crosspoint Church Through Understanding Covenantal Heritage, David J. Ogurek Feb 2025

Deepening Relationships With God At Crosspoint Church Through Understanding Covenantal Heritage, David J. Ogurek

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This action research project addressed the problem of Crosspoint Church’s members not understanding their heritage as God’s covenantal people, which impeded deep relationships with God. The project designed and delivered a six-week sermon series with small-group discussion guides to help participants deepen their relationships with God through understanding their covenantal heritage. The project utilized a multi-week sermon series that employed a teaching method involving biblical history to show how God’s story continually points toward Christ and is relevant to Christianity. Data were collected using surveys before and after the sermon series and a focus group of small-group leaders. The research …

Ontological Overtones Of Participatory Soteriology In Romans 8:1-17, Derek E. Wilder Feb 2025

Ontological Overtones Of Participatory Soteriology In Romans 8:1-17, Derek E. Wilder

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The burgeoning scholarly interest in the concepts of deification and Paul’s “in Christ” participatory soteriology necessitates a deeper exploration of their interrelation with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Regardless of the increase in recent scholarship, the connection between participation in Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit remains underexplored. This study examines the relationship between deification, Pauline participatory soteriology, and pneumatology through an exegetical analysis of Romans 8:1–17. This exegetical framework posits that the believer’s union with Christ initiates a profound ontological metamorphosis, actualized through the Holy Spirit’s immanent indwelling and transcendent relational dynamic. The pneumatological dimension of …

Matthew For The Defense: Identifying The Rhetorical Purpose Of Matthew's Heptadic Γέγραπται Passages, Donald C. Mcintyre Feb 2025

Matthew For The Defense: Identifying The Rhetorical Purpose Of Matthew's Heptadic Γέγραπται Passages, Donald C. Mcintyre

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Heptadic formulations are common throughout ancient Near Eastern, Second Temple, and biblical literature. Frequently, heptadic formulations are debated due to the lack of consistent identification criteria. This study identifies a heptadic formulation of γέγραπται passages in Matthew’s Gospel and seeks to evaluate the legitimacy of that heptadic formulation through applying strict identification criteria. Through those criteria, it was discovered that the Gospel of Matthew invites the reader to take notice of numerological data through the genealogy and continues to employ numerology throughout the Gospel. That fact being established, Matthew then employed the γέγραπται formula a total of nine times with …

Towards A Biblical Theology Of Natural Theology, Armen Oganessian Feb 2025

Towards A Biblical Theology Of Natural Theology, Armen Oganessian

Liberty Theological Review

This article aims to construct a biblical theology of natural theology through an examination of the Book of Job. This examination will employ a three-pronged approach. Firstly, it will place the Book of Job within the overarching redemptive-historical narrative of Scripture. Secondly, it will analyze the book's structure, viewing it as crucial for interpreting its message on natural theology. Finally, it will examine Job's dialogue with his companions (chapters 3:1-31:40) as a discussion of natural theology. This tripartite analysis will demonstrate that Job’s author prompts readers to assess the conversation between Job and his friends within the framework of the …

Defending The Doctrine Of Hell, Jordan P. Ballard Feb 2025

Defending The Doctrine Of Hell, Jordan P. Ballard

Liberty Theological Review

The doctrine of hell, or the final state of the wicked, has become one of the most objectionable Christian doctrines because it depicts God as vengeful and wrathful, which is offensive to human sensibilities. As an extension of the problem of evil, where God is put on trial for allowing what may appear to be gratuitous pain and suffering in the world, many Christians and non-Christians alike wonder how a loving God could consign people to suffering in hell forever. After all, why didn’t God make a world where all would be saved if He is truly loving? Belief in …

God's Sovereignty In Jeremiah's Call (Jer. 1:4-19), Joseph Peters Feb 2025

God's Sovereignty In Jeremiah's Call (Jer. 1:4-19), Joseph Peters

Liberty Theological Review

In Jeremiah 1:4-19, God reveals to Jeremiah that God had chosen him to be a prophet over the nations before Jeremiah was even born. Even though Jeremiah presents objections to his commission, God assures Jeremiah that he will proclaim God’s message and does not need to fear as God will be with him. The message is concerned with both destruction and reconstruction, especially concerning Judah. Knowing that such a message would inevitably meet with opposition, God reassures Jeremiah that he has given Jeremiah the words to say and the protection that he needs to fulfill his task. This article will …

A Man After Yahweh-Chemosh's Own Heart: Syncretism And Davidic Allusions In The Story Of Jephthah, J. Christian Doling Feb 2025

A Man After Yahweh-Chemosh's Own Heart: Syncretism And Davidic Allusions In The Story Of Jephthah, J. Christian Doling

Liberty Theological Review

Jephthah's story has caused no small amount of confusion among scholars as they wrestle with what to make of Jephthah's oath and subsequent sacrifice of his daughter. Some have believed that Jephthah was acting in accordance with Yahweh's wishes, others believe that he was acting out of selfish interest. However, there are two aspects of the literary makeup of the Jephthah story that can help shed some light on the subject. Firstly, the story is filled with Davidic allusions, and the second aspect is syncretism. The Davidic allusions paint Jephthah as a prefigurement of David. In other words, David and …

"Restoration Under The Davidic Shepherd-King": An Exposition Of Ezekiel 37:15–28, Angela Gloria Erum Feb 2025

"Restoration Under The Davidic Shepherd-King": An Exposition Of Ezekiel 37:15–28, Angela Gloria Erum

Liberty Theological Review

Considering what is happening to Israel in the Middle East these days, this exposition of Ezekiel 37:15–28 provides hope for the people of Israel as well as the Gentile believers in Christ. Ezekiel 37:15–28 exhibits Yahweh’s covenantal promise to gather His people (the people of Israel) from other nations, restore them to their land, and reunify them (both northern and southern kingdoms) as one nation under one king, the Davidic shepherd-king; thus, other nations would realize that Yahweh is God. By examining Ezekiel 37:15–28, this paper will attempt to demonstrate the exegesis and the theological implications of the passage through …

The Decalogue As A Transitional Model For Fear, Pamela Jensen Ikasalo Feb 2025

The Decalogue As A Transitional Model For Fear, Pamela Jensen Ikasalo

Liberty Theological Review

God’s original intention for relationships was disrupted by the fall of man as recorded in Genesis 3. From that point, fear of man played an intricate role in both interpersonal relationships and decision-making. The purpose of the Decalogue was to moderate relationships among the people and with their God. However, there is an additional purpose as well. The Decalogue serves as a transitional model from fear of man to fear of the Lord. When God’s people live according to the precedents found in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5 their lifestyle no longer follows the pattern set by fallen humanity. Both …
