Ambush, Reprisal, Riot, Revolt, And Reform: The Transnational Evolution Of British Colonial Policing In Ireland And The Palestine Mandate, 1918-1948, Tyler Kickler Krahe
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
This dissertation looks at the changes in British colonial policing between Ireland and the Palestine Mandate from 1918 and 1948. This time period covers the duration of the Anglo-Irish War, as well as Britain’s mandatory control of Palestine. It is the argument of this work that from 1918 to 1936, between Ireland and the Palestine Mandate, British colonial police forces demonstrated a pattern of evolving police training, practice, and organization, spurred on by violent action and followed by attempts at reform. This pattern continued until the Arab Revolt of 1936 when the police forces in the Palestine Mandate abandoned attempts …

The provision of national housing to citizens in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is considered a crucial topic. Over the past four decades, the process of developing national housing has emerged into multiple housing programs and schemes, all with the same aim of offering affordable and high-quality housing to citizens, in addition to meeting the needs of local families regarding spatial configurations while maintaining cultural values. However, despite all these efforts, the question has always remained: are the offered housing practices suited for family needs, socioeconomic trends, and environmental challenges? This study aims to offer an alternative approach for the …

The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of Muslims in the U. S during the COVID-19 pandemic. Religion has been playing an important role in individuals’ experiences of the pandemic. Many studies were essays on how to utilize a theological approach to respond to and cope with the pandemic. There is limited research on the impact of how Muslim communities in the U. S responded to the pandemic, particularly from the lens of Islamic history, religious beliefs, and attitudes, and being minoritized in a predominantly Christian country. Using an oral history approach, individual virtual interviews were conducted. …

to Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser’s experimentation with modern architecture in 1956, Cairo experimented with the collective housing unit between 1867 and 1955. Privacy, a central value in middle-class Cairene society, permeated the architectural construction of the collective housing unit, primarily adopting screened fenestration to ensure women’s privacy. In this thesis, I argue that in the collective mid twentieth-century housing units of Nasr City, a utopian style city planned by the Nasser administration, a visual shift in the façade suggests a social shift in the public visibility of Cairene women. Further, I argue that the collective housing units in Nasr …

As social and political discourse in most countries becomes more polarized, anti-Americanism has risen not only in the Middle East and Latin America but also among the U.S. allies in Europe. Social media is one platform used to disseminate anti-American views in NATO countries, and its effectiveness can be magnified when mass media, public officials, and popular figures adopt these views. Disinformation, in particular, has gained recognition as a cybersecurity issue from 2016 onward, but disinformation can be manufactured domestically in addition to being part of a foreign influence campaign. In this paper, we analyze Turkish tweets using sentiment analysis …

Abstract: This study aimed to understand the interlinks between religious orientations (extrinsic, intrinsic, quest, and fundamentalist), intergroup contact and sectarian prejudice, verifying whether religious orientations mediate the contact-prejudice links. A sample of 2,498 Omani citizens (Mage=31 years, SDage=9.9) who belong to either Ibada, Sunnah, or Shi'a sects responded to a questionnaire measuring the study variables. The results indicated that fundamentalist, extrinsic, and intrinsic religiosity were positively correlated with sectarian prejudice. Furthermore, quest religiosity and contact were negatively correlated with sectarian prejudice, and we found that quest and fundamentalist orientations mediate the association between contact and sectarian prejudice. We concluded that …

Journal of the Arab American University مجلة الجامعة العربية الامريكية للبحوث
This study relates to some aspects of the purposeful deletion of the Arabic feminine marker “ha’” in the Noble Qur’anic text. It has resulted in a lot of controversies among Arab grammarians and linguists which, by their turn, have indicated that the Arabic Language uses particles followed by words to serve certain purposes; however, Arabic deletes these particles in special contexts and circumstances. The researcher aimed to explore the deletion of the marker and the reasons for such a deletion in qur’anic texts only in order to collect as many linguistic features as possible of the Arabic language that allow …

Heritage Figures In Contemporary Algerian Feminist Poetry, Naima Boulkaibet
Journal of the Arab American University مجلة الجامعة العربية الامريكية للبحوث
Heritage in poetry may be one of the most studied themes. It is an essential element in saving identity and singularity (uniqueness) wanted by poets in their poems. That was manifested with modernism poets who coexisted with heritage and grasped the way they can use it and the charming beauty it adds to the poem. The manifestation of using heritage in the Algerian modern poetry in general and feminist poetry in particular confirms the poet’s recognition of the historical and civilizational awareness included in their poetry by the use of heritage. This study is an exploration of the way that …

The text highlighted the impact of the neo-colonial era represented by the United States' invasion of Iraq in 2003, which launched a new stage of colonialism in the twenty-first century. The novel was able to realistically reflect that historical period in terms of the post colonialism context through an imagined text. This novel reflected some features of the post colonialism novels, especially the textual depths, representations, phrasing and effect and the possibility of achieving all these features. Therefore, the hypothesis of this study was based on …

In a national pact, the Maronite Christians share power with Sunni Muslims. The agreement changed to the Ta'if agreement by adding Shia Muslims in the government. The growing influence of Shia politics along with the weakening of Maronite Christian influence made the axis of sect competition focused on Sunni and Shia groups. After the assassination of Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri, both of them played a political role in dividing political factions in the state government. Sunni-Shi'a political relations are very influential on the course of the Lebanese confessional government. This is a challenge for Hassan Diab as the new Prime …

Lebanon has experienced a long political stalemate due to sectarian tensions. The negative effect of confessionalism theory makes sectarian identity stronger and ultimately results in instability and fragility of the Lebanese political system. The opposition demands political and economic reforms. The Lebanese general election, 15 May 2022, is expected to bring goodness to the Lebanese people. This paper wants to analyze the possibility of these changes. The results of the research show that the transformation of Lebanon towards a democratic government is always hindered by sectarian conflicts within the government. But through the results of the 2022 elections, there is …

This research was based on a concept related to the so-called "criticism of criticism", which asks about the validity of modern critical approaches in analyzing and studying the Qur'anic story, and about the knowledge assets of it. Critical approaches in its origins and field applications are the subject of study of this research and not the Qur’anic story, so the true field of this study is not knowledge; Rather, knowledge of knowledge is more focused on the monetary field than on the creative field. The difficulty is here; As our work appears to be in the trial of critical works …

In this research, I tried to verify how the Egyptian Civil Law deals with the rule “Lesson in Contracts is for the Purposes and Meanings not for the Words and Says" which explains the contradiction between wordings of the contract and the real intent of the contracting parties, because it affects the parties’ obligations. For that purpose, understanding the rule from its origin (The science of the general rules of the jurisprudence) understanding its applications and verifying how other legislations deals with it is a must.
Although the Egyptian civil law has not mentioned this case, I tried to find …
