Lexical Organization In Trilingual: Investing The Foreign Store Hypothesis, Christine Laliberté

Archived Theses and Dissertations

This study investigated lexical organization in trilingual by attempting to determine a) whether lexical items in the dominant language (L1) are stored separately from those of the L2 and the L3; and b) whether lexical items in the L2 and the L3 are stored together, in a "foreign language store", or separately. As well, potential differences between the lexical organization of bilinguals and trilingual were examined. Previous research has revealed that language dominance and proficiency play a crucial role in intra- and interlanguage interference. Typically, interlingual interference originates from the dominant language (L1) ; however, as proficiency in the non-dominant …

Tue fundamental determinant of how societies cope with challenges is ultimately found in their human resource base. Nothing is more important than education, in its broadest sense, to the strength of that base. Forming a vital part of any educational system, social science not only helps societies define themselves but also to identify, and indeed generate, possibilities of what they might become. Whether by transmitting or challenging conceptions of the nature of a society's relation to its members or to other societies, or by raising pertinent questions regarding these issues, what is done--or not done--in the social sciences is likely …

The Role Of Drought In Determining The Reserve Water Sector In Israel, J. A. Allan Aug 1995

The Role Of Drought In Determining The Reserve Water Sector In Israel, J. A. Allan

Drought Network News (1994–2001)

Drought is a compelling environmental phenomenon. Drought is also an extremely important feature of the political economies of dry regions. This study will emphasize the political significance of drought. Droughts, and especially protracted drought, send much stronger signals about water availability to a much more comprehensively diverse range of water interests than any other single political factor or any combination of factors operating in a political economy. Drought affects water users as well as those involved at all levels in water allocation, water legislation, and water policy development and implementation. Natural systems decree that water shortages have to be endured. …
