An Urban Model Of Applied Preservation, David Stewart Barksdale Butler
An Urban Model Of Applied Preservation, David Stewart Barksdale Butler
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This research prioritized the identification and retention of African American cultural heritage in the face of dramatic landscape alteration associated with comprehensive redevelopment. As an approach aimed at providing the most comprehensive understanding of cultural phenomenon, the holistic tradition applied by anthropology asserts that it is productive to identify and apply as many sources of data toward engaging research as is possible. Consistent with this goal, this study applied several categories of data toward investigating material symbols of African American cultural heritage in Tampa, Florida. The holistic anthropological approach demonstrated the relevance and complementarity of research documenting cultural heritage and …

An Investigation Of An After-School Science Enrichment Program, Jennifer Lyn Jamison
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study is to investigate an after-school science enrichment program and its components. The study was conducted in a middle school in the Evesham Township School District located in the Burlington County region of South Jersey. The participants included sixty-one students taken from the four sessions of the science program, three teachers of the program, twenty parents of the students, and the program director. Data sources included interviews held with each of the participants, anecdotal notes recorded in a teacher research journal, and student artifacts. I found positive results in the operation of the program, because of …
Beyond Dualism In The Life Sciences: Implications For A Feminist Critique Of Gender-Specific Medicine, Victoria Grace
Beyond Dualism In The Life Sciences: Implications For A Feminist Critique Of Gender-Specific Medicine, Victoria Grace
Journal of Interdisciplinary Feminist Thought
There are needed some alternative means of conceptualizing some of the central assumptions that support a dualist ontology in the life sciences. A reconceptualisation is crucial for an adequate understanding of the living body. Gender-specific medicine is important for women’s health, and it is making headway against internal conservatism and opposition. Men and women are different, what must be recognized and incorporated into health research, health care, and medical education. Sex hormones, featured as integral to the constitution of difference, are evidently influential in a multitude of sites of bodily function.

On Rememberance Of Things Past: Woodstock And The Counterculture, Mark Y. Herring
On Rememberance Of Things Past: Woodstock And The Counterculture, Mark Y. Herring
Dacus Library Faculty Publications
The natural disposition of mankind is to want Utopia. In literature from the very beginning, from our most primitive to our most sophisticated verses, from the pens of atheists to acolytes, the human spirit has always scratched out, searched, even longed, for Utopias. When Utopias can somehow be linked to a political entity, the subsequent delirium from would-be followers numbers millions.

Theses
The thesis project consisted of two sections. The first of these sections is the creation of twelve conceptually related sculptures installed in the Davison Gallery at Robert Wesleyan College. The second half of the project exists in the form of this written thesis, which will explore various ideas, processes and concerns associated within the individual sculptures and the prevailing concepts inherent to them all. With both the sculptural work and the written thesis I am exploring the personal significance of my past and culture on my work.

Perspectives On An Arts Magnet School : The Voices Of Elementary School Children, Denise Robles-Torres
Perspectives On An Arts Magnet School : The Voices Of Elementary School Children, Denise Robles-Torres
Dissertations and Theses
Since the beginning of public school as a social institution early in the nineteenth century, the voices of children have been missing from the discussion about school. From the progressive era to the current standards based movement, structures of education have been premised on the ideas of what adults think are the best ways for children to learn. But educators and other adults are recognizing the importance of student perspectives by providing children opportunities to participate in critical reflection about school. By including children of all ages in this discussion, educators, policy makers and researchers may begin to examine their …
