Evaluation Of Risk Management In The Ministry Interior Of Iraq According To The Standards (Iso 31000: 2018), Hasan Alaa Hussein, Maha Kamel Jawad

Journal of Economics and Administrative Sciences

The idea of the research is to evaluate the extent to which risk management is applied in the work of the departments and formations of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, and this is done by comparing the actual reality of the Ministry's work with the international standard for risk management, which is (ISO 31000:2018), as the problem of the research centers is the Ministry's lack of a clear definition that is clear about how risks are managed, and this can be seen after reviewing the strategic and annual plans, which showed that this topic was not included in them. Interoception In Pregnancy: Implications For Peripartum Depression, Paul W. Savoca, Laura M. Glynn, Molly M. Fox, Misty C. Richards, Bridget L. Callaghan Sep 2024

Interoception In Pregnancy: Implications For Peripartum Depression, Paul W. Savoca, Laura M. Glynn, Molly M. Fox, Misty C. Richards, Bridget L. Callaghan

Psychology Faculty Articles and Research

"In this perspective piece, we propose a novel mechanistic framework for peripartum depression in which improved interoceptive functioning in pregnancy and postpartum typically protects against depressive symptoms, but when there is a failure to improve interoception, the result is an inability to maintain metabolic efficiency, which ultimately poses risk for depression. First, we will review an emerging theory that links the modeling and predictive regulation of metabolic resources as central to the expression of many depressive symptoms. Then, focusing on the period of pregnancy to articulate the framework, we will discuss the physiological changes induced by pregnancy that place an …

Abstract Middle School Teachers’ Self-Efficacy Beliefs About Administrative Support And Online Teaching During The Covid-19, Alexandra Lee Wright

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

During the spring of 2020, a South Georgia school implemented distance learning due to COVID-19, with little administrative support for the teachers for online instruction. This quick transition may have impacted teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs about teaching online. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore middle school teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs about online instruction and the impact administrative support may have had on these beliefs, while teaching remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study was rooted in Bandura's self-efficacy theory and Venkatesh's Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology. The research questions investigated how administrative support and experience …

This study aims to investigate the request strategies used by students and their lecturers through Instant Messaging (IM) in WhatsApp groups (WAGs). This study used a qualitative research design to analyze the language used by students and their lecturers in WAGs. The data was collected through the analysis of WAGs conversations between students and their lecturers. Previous studies have extensively argued that students are less polite language users when sending texts to their lecturers, and the current study sought to examine the politeness strategies used by the students. The data analysis was carried out in the light the theory of …

Framing Iowa’S “Fragile Giants”, Blake L. Mayberry Sep 2024

Framing Iowa’S “Fragile Giants”, Blake L. Mayberry

The Geographical Bulletin

The cultural landscape of Iowa has changed significantly in the last thirty years, coincident with larger changes in the national and global economies . The Loess Hills–a geologic landform consisting of eroded 15,000-yearold deposits of eolian glacial silt spanning seven counties in western Iowa–have become a political and discursive battle ground for postindustrial restructuring . The State of Iowa sought to create a tourism- and recreationbased economy for western Iowa as a response to rural population loss and unemployment . In 1997, the state’s largest newspaper, The Des Moines Register, started an editorial campaign to advocate for a national park …

Embodiment, Plasticity, And The Re/Production Of Gender, Sex, And Race In Human Biology, Meredith Wilson Sep 2024

Embodiment, Plasticity, And The Re/Production Of Gender, Sex, And Race In Human Biology, Meredith Wilson

Human Biology Open Access Pre-Prints

This paper historically situates human biology research by engaging with feminist science and technology scholars to show how a key mechanism of embodiment, plasticity, is used to re/produce sex and gender binaries in anthropological research and beyond. I begin by defining embodiment and demonstrating its reliance on plasticity. Next, I discuss plasticity and review how and why it has been taken up in human biology research. After, I engage with the works of feminist, trans, and queer scholars who have examined the connection between embodiment, plasticity, and the creation of Western binarized sex and gender. Further, I present how the …

Evidence And Mechanisms Of Embodiment In The Developing Dentition, Valerie Sgheiza Sep 2024

Evidence And Mechanisms Of Embodiment In The Developing Dentition, Valerie Sgheiza

Human Biology Open Access Pre-Prints

Existing research supports both embodiment of stress through epigenetics and epigenetic impacts on dental development. Two models for embodiment of stress in dental development are proposed. Stress-delay proposes that increased stress during development will produce delays in dental development. Inflammation-acceleration proposes that increased stress will produce faster dental development through inflammatory pathways. These models were tested on dental development scores from the New Mexico Decedent Image Database by using non-accidental manner of death (homicide, suicide, and natural) as a proxy for elevated stress exposure during life and cadaver BMI percentile as a proxy for living BMI. Sex was treated as …

A Spectrum Of Violence: The Intersection Of Antemortem And Postmortem Embodiment In Migrant Death Investigation At The U.S.-Mexico Border, Molly A. Kaplan, Caroline Znachko Sep 2024

A Spectrum Of Violence: The Intersection Of Antemortem And Postmortem Embodiment In Migrant Death Investigation At The U.S.-Mexico Border, Molly A. Kaplan, Caroline Znachko

Human Biology Open Access Pre-Prints

The objective of the present literature review is to examine how the humanitarian crisis of migrant death at the U.S.-Mexico border epitomizes the antemortem and postmortem dimensions of structural violence and the lasting effects it can have on the human body. After describing the ongoing migrant death crisis, we review embodiment constructs in biological anthropology pertaining to structural violence and marginalization across the life course. We then survey studies examining skeletal and dental biomarkers of structural violence as embodied in migrant populations, including oral pathology, dental modifications, porotic hyperostosis, cribra orbitalia, enamel hypoplasia, cranial fluctuating asymmetry, vertebral neural canal size, …

This special issue celebrates the plurality and wide applicability of this useful framework by bringing together multiple perspectives on embodiment within the field of human biology.

Embodiment In Anthropological Epigenetics Research, Sana Saboowala, Meredith A. Wilson, Sahara Z. Vilchis, Mary P. Rogers-Lavanne Sep 2024

Embodiment In Anthropological Epigenetics Research, Sana Saboowala, Meredith A. Wilson, Sahara Z. Vilchis, Mary P. Rogers-Lavanne

Human Biology Open Access Pre-Prints

This paper reviews literature in human epigenetic research as a case study in order to examine and critique the dominant framework of embodiment as unidirectional or bidirectional and mechanistically driven. We identify three major critiques to this approach: 1) A treatment of epigenetic traits as a mechanism of embodiment, rather than one of the multidirectional components of the dynamic and ongoing embodiment process; 2) A tendency to view changing epigenetic traits as both the cause and solution for embodied social inequalities rather than examining the need for systemic change; and 3) A loss of the complexity of varied lived experiences …

Memories Of The Past: Engagement With Colonial Narratives In Modern-Day Spain, Amelia Wang Sep 2024

Memories Of The Past: Engagement With Colonial Narratives In Modern-Day Spain, Amelia Wang

Undergraduate Project Award

Abstract: Over the past fifteen years, the way colonialism is remembered and taught has come under fire. In Spain, dominant political forces strike against one another on what the “correct” history of colonization looks like. Of particular concern is how the stories of colonialism have been remembered and taught and what these stories might look like moving forward. This paper examines the rise and fall of the Spanish Empire and the long-term impacts of the colonial period and then discusses how the colonial period is remembered in Spain and the impact of collective memory on national identity. It does so …
